I'm having trouble balancing the omega fatty acids and GLA.  Before I started on the
Warrior diet, I used flax oil, fish oil and cooked with olive oil.  Now, I'm taking the Warrior
supplements which gives me safflower oil (CLA not GLA, I know, but does one influence the
other)??

THEN, in addition, I started adding Evening Primrose oil because it's a diamond food.

BUT, the end result is an achy body...stiff joints...and something is off.

I don't know which fatty acid needs to be higher and which should be lowered.

My gut instinct is that the GLA is too high.  Borage oil and black currant seed oil (also GLA)
used to give me raging headaches.

So, does anyone have expertise or opinons on balancing prostaglandins in the body by taking the proper ratio of omega fatty acids?  I'm sure it's different for each person.

My gut instinct is to stop using the GLA from Evening Primrose and take just fish oil for awhile.

Does this make sense?  I felt better before I ever started adding GLA.  Is it possible I just
unbalanced myself by adding it?

Hi Chloe,
I think you are right that it may be the gla oil that is giving you problems.  I have read that it may cause the release of arachidonic acid and this leads to the pge 2?  Not sure but I have had achiness when trying to use a gla oil also.  Right now I am taking  a fish/flax/evening primrose blend.  But I don't take it all the time, just when I feel I need it.  I do better on cod liver oil I think.   Evening primrose is a diamond for warriors?  Wow....

Lola, thank you....not sure this addresses what I was saying...I read the
link you suggested.  It's talking about the characteristics of a Warrior...and then lists
the 3 supplements suggested for Warriors. I take 2 of 3 of them.  I don't do great
on the synergistic formula which comes from CLA.

What I was talking about was a completely different oil....found in Evening Primrose oil...
and that would be G(Gamma)LA, not C(congugated)LA).  Evening Primrose oil is not CLA.  Evening Primrose oil is a DIAMOND food for Warriors and I was supplementing both the CLA from the Warrior supplement package AND the Evening Primrose oil when I started feeling stiff and achy.  Fish oil isn't recommended for Warriors and flax oil is.  Both are high in omega 3s.

I stopped the Evening Primrose oil and the synergistic Warrior supplement for the past 5 days and most of my stiffness has gone away.

I don't seem to fit the total profile for a Warrior in regard to the recommended ratio of oils. I have always done better on lots of FISH oils...Even flax oil doesn't supply me with enough absorbable 3s. My body needs lots and lots of omega 3s which helps arthritis.  And too
much 6 makes me really stiff.

I found relief from doubling my fish oil this week, eliminating the Evening Primrose oil
and not taking the Warrior synergist supplement.  I might require small amounts of CLA
and GLA again, once I get balanced out,  but as a diamond food choice, Evening Primrose oil for me, turned out to be a negative.

my suggestion was simply following the recommendations from your warrior sups......

sometimes we simply add more than our share, in diet alone.

Thanks,  I will try taking just the 3 Warrior supplements, not add Evening Primrose oil
and see how I do.

Chloe,
I am having hip & joint pain that seems to lessen on fish oil also.  At least I think that is what is helping.....
I am also trying to use ghee regularly.

an update regarding my aches and pains and oil supplementation....

I switched to supplementing with just fish oil and flax and I eliminated the Evening Primrose oil and
CLA...I'm finally not achy.  Took about a week.  I might be someone who needs to lean far to the
omega 3 side and I doubt my requirements for omega 6 is necessary right now.

I gave up all the Warrior supplements this week just to see if possibly anything in them bothered me.
Without aches and pains, I'm almost afraid to try them again.

Another update...

After going a few days without taking GLA (Evening Primrose oil) or the Warrior supplements, I
decided to try them again.

This time, I kept my omega 3 supplements from flax oil and fish oil pretty high and only
took one Evening Primrose oil instead of 2 per day.

And I added back the Warrior supplements. I wasn't having problems from the Warrior supplements
until I started taking too much Evening Primrose oil.

I think this will be a better oil ratio for me this time.  Keeping my fingers crossed because
I really want to be able to use the supplements for my genotype!
