Tyrosine?  Meat?  Bananas?  B-6? Exercise?  What's good for Hunters in this regard?  

I know there are suggestions in the book, but what has personal experience in this arena yielded using the suggestions and possibly other methods and/or supps?

I really seem to need to raise mine a lot these days: Low level depression and feeling 'flat lined' in life.

Tyrosine (food sources are good too) and exercise for sure. Rhodiola could be useful as well.

Red meat is a great friend. Starches seem counterproductive for 'dark days'. Eggs can be good.

Rhodiola is very effective for this purpose for type O's.  It would be my first herbal suggestions for Hunters.

Thanks Lloyd and Victoria.  But Rhodiola seems to weird out my brain.  

Maybe in addition to getting as much of it from food as I can, I'll try the Tyrosine in a low dose... how much to take?

you might give a try for l'tyrosine, or sam-e (3-4x 200mg's daily )and also phenylalanine might be one of your choices but perhaps get tested before taking this stuff that there's no phenylketunury anywhere around.

As Isa says Tyrosine and a form of D-Phenylalanine (DPA)
(EndorphiGen) may help.  (I don't know if D-Phenylalanine is contraindicated for hunters but it sure works for me).  

The book, The Mood Cure by Julia Ross explains how to use amino acids, their contraindications, and why to use them.  

I use the Mood Cure to reference just as much as I use LR4YT and Genotype.

I would not use more than 500mg Tyrosine/day to start with, it's pretty powerful stuff. You may or may not notice something the first day or three.

As Isa mentioned, SAM-e can do wonders as well. I'd start with just one supplement to see how it affects you before trying/adding other things.

So I didn't mention what happens at night.  I have horrible Anxiety and it's getting worse.  So maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree... maybe I have too much Dopamine and not enough serotonin

If you are having anxiety, then Holy Basil and B5 as well as Rhodiola might be good. Also Lemon Balm (Melissa) and Valerian can be helpful.  

Another is Magnolia Bark extract, as found in Histona or Relora.

methylcobalamin (the active form of B12) probably does the same functions more reliably than SAMe. SAMe is also very expensive if you take the recommended doses.

For a Hunter, stress is the issue in difficulty regulating dopamine (as far as I can tell). Don't forget the alternate nostril breathing. The anti-stress stuff from my other post applies here too. Working on reducing stress and getting downtime will help immensly. SAM-e has a mild effect here too, which I have not seen in methyl-12. But the other hebs, etc, are better.

Hi Lloyd and all... we take a cup of Lemon Balm before bed each evening and I generally take Valerian in the form of the tab Musclease... which also has White Willow Bark and Passion Flower in it.

But if I take it at 11 I wake at two in total fear.  It seems to last 3 - 4 hours max.

Also Rhodiola makes my brain and mood feel strange.  Like I'm not right somehow.  

I've got a call into my NP as I found my 2005 brain chemistry tests and all levels of the biggies are way down - Dopamine, Serotonin, Epinephrine, and Nonepinephrine.  So I may have another test since that was 3 years ago.  But I need to do something.

Haven't tried Holy Basil yet... what type of effects does one notice on that?

that's awful girl!! there was a segment on Oprah that I saw on this subject a while back. A quick search on her site, I found this:

Well last night I had some luck.

I went on an eating tirad of good foods... sardine patties made with eggs, minced onions, olive oil and rice flour.  Boiled eggs; homemade buffalo chili, avocado, watermelon, dates.  It was a bit much but I was feeling ravished.

So when I went to bed the fear started up big time and so I went in and took my three valerine at 11pm and slept till 2pm, but did not wake up freaked out again!  I also had the RLS really bad - could not calm it down, but after the valerine it left as well.

So I immediately attributed it to all those good brain chemistry stuffs in the foods I ate.

I know meat increases dopamine and we are eating alot of red meat.  So like I mentioned earlier I am looking at the serotonin factor.

I do have low cortisol in the afternoons.  Which I've always felt increased my hunger and cravings in the afternoons.

When I don't feel good, the anxiety kicks in at night in bed because your mind can focus on what you are feeling.  

My Doctor has a homeopath called "anxiety reduce" and I think it works.  He also has me rub some calming oil on my tummy and it works too.  

You can go to http://www.pathwaysmed.com and order them if you want.  It has worked for me.  

When he tested me for dopamine and seretonin, my levels were terribly low, and I believe there was a correlation to my anxiety.  Because I was getting it alot.  My dopamine was so low, it wasn't recordable.  And no, I don't have Parkinsons.  I think you may want to get tested, I think it's just a blood test and see if it is really the case.  But something to help relieve the anxiety in the mean time is a good idea.

Believe me, I feel for you.  I pray it gets worked out.

cortisollevels arent' that important for O's to watch out but catecholamines...dito we, the AB's are very similar in that aspect.
Only B's and A's might produce stress responses which are concerned to a higher cortisol level...(which should be tested in the morning, not in the afternoon) ..btw...under stress everybody produces higher cortisollevels....but the issue here is merely the breakdown of em   ....and then I might gentely remind onto the enneagram issues....
I once took  that pain  to bring em completely on this board.....yesssss
the stuff is that clear....ahem.... fine that U are going to read it

One thing I forgot to mention is that my anxiety increased at least 50% when I started  Chaste Berry about two weeks ago.  I looked it up on the web and found that it increases dopamine.  I had posted about it but no one really seemed to know anything.

At any rate... I continued to research and in the last few days discovered that excess dopamine can cause anxiety.

Yesterday I stopped taking it and last night, as I reported previously, my anxiety was way down.

There's a good book out there called "the Edge Effect" by Dr. Braverman.  If you can get it at the library or something, it explains dopamine, serotonin, foods to increase or decrease them, etc.
Also the "mood cure" from Julia Ross.  It sounds like you are on the right path so far.  I have tried tyrosine for stress, but then I think
my serotonin is low also.  So it can sort of backfire on me.  I think when we are menopausal, estrogen dropping effects serotonin also.  I think that is part of my experience currently.  Lower estrogen, lower serotonin, not feeling too happy in general....But eating right really does help.  It's the supps that get tricky!

Hi... don't watch t.v. and only read a local newspaper that is 4 pages.  

I've noticed the negativity attacks things I'm worried about that I haven't taken care of yet.  Things that I can't take care because of schedules or whatever.  Small silly things.

And that's what my brain does, obsesses about small silly things... so I grab a rock (I have a special spiritual rock I use) to connect me to a feeling of being grounded and I pray.

Since coming off the of Chaste Berry the anxiety has gotten 75% better.  I talk to my NP this Thurs.

Keep us posted about what your np thinks.  Are you a hunter or gatherer?  I eat banana before bed and it helps me sleep better.  I had some problems during travel that keep me up during the night.
It's improving now.  You're a hunter so maybe even a little sweet potato before bed.  I think the "Potatoes, not Prozac" ideas work for me, maybe they will for you too.  Eat your proteins, veggies during the day, have a little starch before bed to help release serotonin during sleep.  It's not failproof, but it does help.

On Holy Basil:  I find it to be powerful at calming the mind and body, so much that I only took it in the evening.  Actually I no longer need it, since the advent of the GTD, but it is especially good for O's and Hunters from what I understand.  It's certainly worth a try, and there are even some good Holy Basil products out in tea bag form, for an alternative bedtime tea.

Thanks Dr. D... but I'm on it.  Plenty of protein, haven't had any wheat in I don't know how long BUT my exercise has been a little less routine than I'd like.

And soon we will be trying the HB... IB is sending me some to try.
