There are several differences between the Gatherer diet and the BTD Arthritis book. Black tea, tomatoes and kale are just a few... I really want to be following the best of the two for my knees, but I'm still unsure which to stick to. Any opinions? By the way, I think this was discussed awhile back, but I can't seem to locate the discussion. |

That's probably a question Dr. D would answer on the Genotype website. Did you use your free week yet? |

I did use the free week....
I know it's all a very personal trial and error thing. I know I need to try foods for myself BUT it would be nice to have some feedback from others who are more knowledgeable than I am. For example, tomatoes are a superfood for Gatherers but an avoid for BTD arthritis ( nightshade)... beef is a super food in BTD arthritis, but just neutral for Gatherer... black tea recommended on Gatherer, but an avoid for arthritis book.... kale is good on BTD arthritis, but avoid on Gatherer... and so on.... there are just so many factors, not to mention my activity level each day, which may affect the arthritis.... I guess what I'm asking is whether the "new " Genotype Diet cancels out , or is "better" than the old BTD books....? are those obsolete or outdated since the new Genotype Diet is more advanced? Are the old problem specific BTD books still very valid? |

Hi Sherriberri, we are wondering too...I imagine that they will be appended at some future time. For some reason, my arhtritic hands hurt much less on the GTD....? Dunno why... |

simply avoid those pesky avoids in your arthritis book even though they are SF in GT2..... until you feel you have completed your 'gene resetting period', and add gradually, according to you.
PM Rex for more targeted advice.....she has been doing great so far, combining both according to her needs.

thanks, Lola...
I'll PM Rex.... guess my biggest question is on the beef... it's a super food for the BTD arthritis but just neutral for GTD....
Interesting, Jayneeo! Thanks for your input...

I d concentrate on all your GT meat protein diamond sources, preferably grass fed and free range, instead. Sherry, thanks! |

This thread is right on target for me at the moment, as I have a sudden emergence of a painful hip--- after about 5 months on the GTD. so I did a quick check in the Arthritis book, and found that my new reliance on black tea, wholemeal wheat, navy beans and a drop in exercise this week, plus twisting my ankle, all have added up to a negative situation. In the short term I have added chon/gluc. to my supplements, removed the above triggers even though they are GTD foods, and will walk slowly every day. I am loathe to add GTD foods that may be good for arthritis treatment but not so good for GTD, so am hoping that just the above will be enough. It is sad to remove the above as I was really enjoying them, so perhaps when I am better I will add them back as treats. As several hundred million people in the world are probably Warriors, it would be unrealistic to think that one diet fits them all! (to coin a phrase). |

Thanks, Jenny, for that thought and feedback. My arthritis is really worse of late..but there are so many other factors aside from food to which I could trace this.... long story! Anyway, I think I will go back to the BTD Arthritis basics and then add in a few things " just to see".... even though beef is a staple on the BTD and just neutral on GTD... will do more turkey, as this is a bennie on both...turkey just isn't as easily available.as in out to dinner or lunch....
I'm still waiting to hear back from Rex, as well... |

Well, after a couple of days and nights of intermittent pain in the form of spasms when I moved one leg too fast, I succumbed to 1 panadeine (what, Jenny???? It's been so long since I took pain relief that I can't even remember when it might have been. Anyway, it certainly shocked my body in a nice kind of relative numbness, and in this state of relief I have now decided that it may not be arthritis at all, but a stretched tendon or ligament which I could well have got when I lifted a couple of full ceramic garden pots that I should not have done. If this latest theory is correct, I guess I should know quite soon, and so I have decided that probably I will be going back to full GTD very soon, and not doing the Arthritis protocols, apart from gluc/chon which I suspect may be a good lectin soak for those occasional baddies. thanks for listening!!! |

just curious... how soon after consuming avoids to you start to ache? Tomatoes are one of those mysteries to me.... awful on the arthritis BTD protocol... but diamond superfood on the Gatherer diet... go figure??? what to do? |

Sheri, your knee problem is not hereditary right? Also, have you tried doing the GT2 diet, by focussing on all food categories from the diamonds and superfoods? This is how I look at it: If a particular health issue is genetic, then following the GTD will silence the bad genes and turn up the volume of your good genes. If a particular health issue is self inflicted , then focussing on the BTD Health Library Series protocols might help. My logical ISTJ approach for your knees would be, list out all your GT2 diamonds and superfoods. Compare that with the Arthritic protocol list. Highlight Arthritic red flags on your GT2 list and avoid it. But dont forget to eat the loud-speaker-foods from your GT2 list. I dont think anybody has a sure answer to these kind of questions just as yet. Unless you go for a SWAMI analysis... Good luck and please keep us posted! |

HI AC! That's sort of what I did.... I took the BTD arthritis book and the GTD Gatherer list and highlighted all the foods that I like to eat that were not avoids on either.. a few were neutral on one or the other, but none were total disasters.... so I'm going to concentrate on eating those.... and yes , I've totally overdone the tennis of late and my knees are on fire... will back off for a bit...
As far as foods go, I've stopped eating the tomatoes even though they are a superfood for Gatherers... too many people feel the nightshades are bad news for arthritis sufferers...
And black tea... even though it is good on the Gatherer diet, it is a big NO on the BTD arthritis O list.... so I'll just have to see.... who knows.. maybe I'll figure this all out for me and be able to help someone else with these questions... good to hear from you! |

what do you believe could be the culprit? if ok for your GT and avoid in the arthritis HSB then by all means avoid!
you are well an O gatherer but your arthritis issues are worth taking into consideration..... |

Sheriberry, I see that you are combining the best of GTD and the anti arthritis protocols, but not yet responding; however, looking at the dates of your mailings, I wonder if anything conclusive could have happened yet? It certainly sounds like arthritis, but (1) have you had any regular medical advice yet? and (2)you hint that there might be other factors that are too complicated to talk about? Would it help to keep a food and activity diary? |

Thanks, Lola, Jenny and Jayneeo for the answers!
Well, my husband is an orthopaedic surgeon, so I DO get regular medical consultations.. lol... he tells me to quit playing such hard singles tennis...
I have been looking at the alkaline / acidic food tables.. and trying to stay very alkaline! Animal protein of all kinds is VERY acidic... strange....
I've been eating a TON of fresh raw fruits and veggies... jalapenos, for one have been added... great for Gatherers.. maybe not for O arthritis... hmm... anyway, going to back off on the extra hard tennis ALL day... just back off.. not quit.. and try to do all the "ok for both groups" till my knees settle down.. they are already better.
Lola.. arthritis book says ok for red wine... GT says NO to red wine.. I know you are only drinking red wine very sparingly with your husband... have you seen or noticed benefits cutting way back?? just curious... |

absolutely! haven t had red wine for quite a few months now..... my hub finally got the message, that I would not be chining in with the red wine during dinner....so he has been ordering a glass of white for me instead, when we go out. |

again, alkaline / acidic food tables are a one size fit all... GT and BT diets designed by Dr D have taken each into consideration...... Os do better acidic, while As are better off alkaline..... just follow the guidelines.....
do a search, there s lots of threads on this issue here |

Sheri, glad that you are tinkering around with your diet. The important thing here is to heal your damaged knee joints. And while at it, why not allow the diet to take care of 30,000 genes instead of one gene ? I feel that the body as a whole must be treated. How do you like the GT2 exercise regime? |
