Sorry, i haven't thoroughly read the book yet, soo far just using it as a reference. Does anyone know if the GTD is anti-inflammatory like the BTD is?.

I'm sure it balances/heals the body just like BTD does, but at a deeper level. Is that right, Drs. D & C??

For the "reactive" genotypes (Hunter and Explorer), inflammation is the main problem, so that would seem to mean the Hunter and Explorer diets address inflammation. For the "thrifty" genotypes (Gatherer and Warrior), it's metabolism, and for the "tolerant" genotypes (Teacher and Nomad), detox is most important.
Along the lines of this question on inflammation, I have sons with acne, teens, young adult in the military. Two are type O, one is type B-. I have measured them, and I am stumped. I think the type O's are probably hunters. But they could be explorers, and the type B son is either an explorer or a nomad. I assume that acne is an inflammatory condition. They suffer with various degrees of the problem, but it is painfully persistent in all of them. I guess I will compare the plans to see if I can narrow it down. The B- has warts on his hand from what he thinks is airplane "fluid" (can't remember the name of the stuff he touches), but nomads can have slow growing wart like viruses.... I just want to give them some additional help with diet adjustments. The B- son in the military has to eat what he can on the ship, but it might still be helpful to know.....I am confused!

thanks, I guess that either way, explorer or hunter, both are prone to inflammation. Maybe the B- son is an explorer, it makes sense.... I have 4 sons, 3 with acne that are pretty seriously affected, one who is relatively unscathed by the problem. Three of them are leftys like me.....the righty is probably a hunter. But he is O-, so he could be an explorer. The 0+ is either a hunter or explorer. The other 0- clear skinned guy is probably an explorer. He fits the profile pretty well, very muscular, etc....Now the B- is also left handed, muscular, I think he must be an explorer also. Otherwise, he's a nomad, but that doesn't seem right....given his reaction to beer....oh well, sorry for the rambling, I just want to know, even if they don't follow the plans.

paulam, have you considered that acne may be a detox condition rather than inflammatory...I don't know but isn't the skin just trying to get rid of toxins? that would be my take. (isn't nomad one of the detox types?) are they asymetrical? (explorer)
Yes, detox does make sense also. The one at home right now that is type B- could still be a nomad. I have them home in spurts, he's here for a few more days. I will keep reading and measuring. The only part of the puzzle I don't have is their secretor status. But his teeth are good, I could go with secretor....?

Warts are caused by a virus- so if he has warts that could be a sign of a weak immune system that allows the warts to 'break out'. I don't think one can get warts from 'stuff' that one touches. A rash or pustules would be more like it in that case.
Hope that helps some. Keep measuring. Maybe measure more people to get more practise and then try your sons again. Good luck!

Acne will produce inflammation in the skin, but the condition itself means the body needs to detox. I am betting they are explorers

paulam, I seem to remember the naturopathic doctor that I go to telling me when my boys were adolescents that acne can be from the liver being overloaded and not breaking down testosterone. Might be an avenue to check out.
My sons are hunter and explorer, I believe it was my explorer son who had the problem on his back - makes sense to me now (knowing he is an explorer). I believe at the time the doctor gave me some liquid herbs/botanicals to help support his liver function. This was at least ten years ago though so I don't remember specifically what was in it.
Actually, you are all giving great advice. One of them takes a supplement from the hfs called "blood support" from eclectic institute...the woman at the hfs recommended it as it helped her nephew. It does seem to make a difference for him. It has burdock, red clover, yellow dock, nettle and dandelion root. I am aware that these may not all be beneficial, but when he stops taking it, he breaks out a bit more, then improves while he's on it. I guess that if they are explorers, it makes a lot of sense in the detox, weak acetylator, liver/gallbladder weakness. Going to keep reading up on it all. Last night I made this wonderful lamb/artichoke stew from a "Whole Foods Market" recipe. It was really good, and served it with brown rice. Yum!

Hm. I think I'll go get this stuff. "Blood Support." I wonder if burdock is okay while breastfeeding. For some reason it rings a red bell, to mix my metaphors.
Any teeny, tiny, teensy-weensy bit of sugar makes my skin break out in ooziness. Then after a week or so they start drying up (if I haven't had a nightshade--then it's really, really bad). I really am beginning to think it's more a Candida thing than anything else, but yet it still might be liver too. Can Candida be in the liver?

Ribbit, do you take dandelion and nettle? They really do well for me.
Candida anywhere will affect the liver. One thing candida does is convert some food to a form that the body has a very difficult time handling... (Don't remember all of the specifics right now.) The best I remember is that it makes eliminating the waste very difficult, which overloads the liver/gallbladder and kidneys. It can also work the pancreas if the liver gets too overworked. I am currently supporting all of the digestive/filter/etc. organs while I detox allergy, candida, and other waste.
The Warrior diet is anti-inflammatory for the arterial inflammation that Warrriors are subject to...
There's just not much that can be done while nursing a baby, that's all. Maybe I should wean her early. Or maybe I should just wait it out and live with it for another year or so.
Spring, I don't take dandelion and nettle regularly. I do a dandelion tincture most days when I remember. I made nettle (among other herbs) tea and drank it throughout the pregnancy but stopped once she was born. Should I start making tea again?

Gosh, I had horrible acne on my shoulder blades when I was a teenager. I felt like a freak. Now our daughter is just starting to battle facial acne at 10 yo. She might be an Explorer, but her torso to leg ratio is very close, and we don't know her blood type other than either A or O.
My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.
