Good question Funkymuse. I'm working on the theory that the occasional black dot won't mess up months of work, but that regular black dots might....

It's all opinion at this point, but personally, I think that it would lengthen your 3-6 month period. 1/2 cup once or twice a month, with no other black dots... that shouldn't extend it too much.
Going way overboard by eating black dots for a few days in a row, or all out toxins, would probably restart the initial period, depending on your health and how close you are to your goals. If a primary goal is weight loss, then that's pretty easy to measure, and one should avoid black dots until they reach a target weight.
Needless to say, I am restarting my initial period. In my case, one black dot leads to another, and worse, so I need to just stay away from them. Easy to do at home, harder when I'm away.

I slip up every now and then, and then I wake up stiff (or whatever) the next day and think, "Oh yeah, now I remember why I'm doing this."
IMO, occasional black dots slow down the reprogramming, but they don't reverse it.

My hunch is that it may slow it down a day or 2. It depends on the dots & the amount. Sunday we went out & I had good food, but tiny portions of several healthy dots like carrot, etc. & a tiny avoid. I actually feel a little better. Myabe I'm a hybrid hunter/gatherer as I suspect. S S & L, Mrs "T" O+

If you are within the first three to six months of beginning the program, you should avoid using BD. Once you've passed the six-month mark, you may consume black dot toxins like any other allowed food.
However, if you are battling an illness or feel your weight has begun to creep up, ramp up your compliance by avoiding these foods again for a month or two.
there s nothing wrong with consuming BD.....it just slows down your resetting.

Mrs T O, I think that Dr Peter has made it clear that we cannot be hybrids, that we belong to one or other Genotype, even if it seems borderline. I could look up the page if you like. For me one of the main differences in the way that I apply GTD over BTD is that I used to Avoid the Avoids big time assuming that the space left over would have to be acceptable foods, whereas now I am learning to specialize in the Diamonds and Supers and focussing on the left hand column and filling up on them so that the Avoids don't have a look in, but if they do, they hardly matter. It stops me obsessing over mistakes and rule breaking.
Jenny I think you have expressed things very well. Up until recently I would feel so guilty and give up too easily if I have eaten avoids. Now I am trying to keep a diary of superfoods and diamonds eaten - kinda copying Chloes fantastic idea - and I feel much more positive about things.
Of course I'm only new at this and have a long way to go to be compliant yet, but its all a process of learning and even finding the stuff that we can eat.

Accentuate the positive, don't latch on to the negative. Come join us and post your diamond foods daily, even if your numbers aren't high. It's the reporting and feeling accountable to others that makes this work so well. I wasn't eating half as many diamond foods until I decided it might help to make a daily list and share them with others. You'd be surprised just how many times I've gone to the pantry or refrigerator, craving the wrong food only to look at my diamond food list and suddenly correct myself and then choose a diamond food whenever possible. We aren't being competitive with one another as much as simply challenging ourselves by playing a little game. I rarely try to beat someone's score. I'm just trying to do my own personal best each day. Sometimes when someone goes WAY over the top and eats as many diamond foods as Funkymuse did one day (I think 21) , we all got excited. The rest of us were still winners..We were still proud of how many good choices we had made.
I'm not perfect. A few times in the past (nearly) 4 months, I've eaten a black dot food more than once. Often it was because of my situation, who I was with and my food choices just weren't appropriate. In other words, there were times when I simply had no choice but to pick the best of the worst. The wrong fish, the wrong cheese. Or else I wouldn't have been able to eat anything except a salad. Weddings, family gatherings and all social events present challenges if you conscientiously make food choices that are vastly different from other people.
I think we all have different levels of compliance and there is no way we could be or should be monitoring one another. We're just all doing the best we can as often as we can. And just being here, giving one another encouragement is probably our most important role to play.
Agree?

I seem to have fallen into a sort of "3 steps forward/1 step back" pattern. Even so, I eat ridiculously better than I did just six months ago. For me, the triumph has been not going to pieces over the "1 step back." (No other diet has done that for me.)
I am no way near just eating a black dot every now and then, but I am slowly replacing foods in my pantry and fridge. You said you go to the fridge and check your diamond food list (Chloe). I might try doing a list, I need one to go shopping anyway.
The problem is I still haven't truly decided which way to go yet, BTD or GTD. There is just so much more info on the BTD which makes me feel safer (what a chicken ) So at the moment I am trying to eat beneficials/diamonds from both plans and TRYING to totally kick the wheat habit!
Franklina - well done on your "triumph"

Well... a lot of different answers. I sure would like to get to the point where I can eat some black dots now and again and like another poster, I'm not sure if i can make it! especially if I eat one black dot now and again! Oh Lordie!
I may just have to bite the bullet and start eating black cherries again after 4 months of maybe 90% compliancy.
I miss those darn things! As far as soy milk that's now an avoid and one I can say goodbye to.
But a new food item that used to be an avoid, and is now a black dot - Cashews, I can't wait to add because I have a rice milk recipe that uses them! Boy wouldn't that be delish!!!
So I'll keep working on hanging the best I can with no black dots and after 4 months I'm gonna have some cherries gosh darn it! And maybe even a little rice cashew milk!! So there!

HAAAA!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the black dot foods supposed to become less of a problem after 3-6 months than the foods listed in the book in the same column? The ones without dots? Aren't the foods minus dots far worse? Considered to permanently toxic?
See, I don't consider the black dot foods toxins for the rest of my life.. I consider them a hinderance to weight loss and detoxing. BUT, after 6 months are over, to keep weight under control if I've reached my final level of satisfaction, I would think adding a few black dots on occasion wouldn't be so awful. I would think I'd always be aware not to incorporate black dot foods regularly, but I surely wouldn't feel major guilt about eating them.
I think in order to live in the real world and have the opportunity to find myself in awkward social settings with food I haven't personally prepared, the occasional option of being able to eat some of those black dots would be a welcome relief!
Agree or disagree?

Regarding black dots: "After 3-6 months, you can reintroduce these foods back into your diet in modest amounts," and ..."if you are battling an illness or feel your weight beginning to creep back up, you may want to ramp up your compliance by avoiding these foods again for a while."
Both quotes straight from the book. You get a gold star.
see how values can change when one migrates from the BTD values to the GTD system. Somewhere in the allowable GenoTypes for people with type A blood, there will be that old BTD avoid, however, if it is not in your new GenoType values (or if it flipped to being actually beneficial!) it is because its BTD avoid status was less relevant than the benefits it provides under your new GTD skin.

Hi... I am aware of the black dots being able to be introduced after 3-6 months. What I was wondering is if one black dot here and there 'before' the 6 months was up would continually put me back at the starting line.
It seems so. So I feel I will never have a 6 month clean period from black dots.

That was discussed before. I think the consensus is that it may set you back a day or so, but not the end of the world! It's almost impossible to avoid dots & avoids for a full 3-6 months. We even breathe pollution. Does that set us back?? S S & L, Mrs "T" O+
