Edna, That was excellent! A Gatherer was needed to accurately rebuff her. Of course my letter was better...JUST KIDDING!
I'm glad you wrote a letter, too! I say we inundate the Toronto Star editor's virtual in-box with a plethora of GTD-lovin' e-mails! I went on the WW point diet a few years ago because I was in sort of a rut and decided that might give me the nudge I needed to get back on track. (I was eating too much chicken, but I didn't know that until GTD came along!) I stayed completely on the BTD while I was counting points. Lost over 12 pounds, too, in no time. There wasn't any problem at all - just as you say! One reason I lost so fast may have simply been because I was limiting the amount of chicken I was eating to keep my points down.
Hi Spring! Just want to back up your findings on dropping chicken.. it has been a boon to me too, not in weight terms (yet) but in gut pain removal. I read somewhere (here? that chicken can inflame the bile duct, and it was certainly the case for me. |

This is the woman you'd also want to contact.... http://www.menuformovement.com(Stefanie Shalagan) She's the "so called" expert that this health reporter Megan Olgivie, is quoting: "EXPERT OPINION: There is no scientific evidence, whatsoever, to back up D'Adamo's plan, says registered dietitian Stefanie Shalagan" Can you even fathom that a registered dietician is qualified to analyze the work of Dr. D???? Truly unbelievable! |

I'm so glad you found the source of your pain. I'm sure it was not a problem letting chicken go when you found out what it was doing to you! I will be grateful for the rest of my life that my stomach has finally stopped hurting all the time. |

This has become the most tiring and least effective method of discrediting the GTD I have ever heard of. For the last two days I have been writing a paper in my graduate level physiology class on the subject of body detoxification and how complex this subject really is. I wish these people would spare me this tired old excuse and do some real research on the net. It's out there and it has been written by non ND's and ND's who hold a Ph.D. in molecular genetics. I am really busy, but if any of you guys want to copy and past my comments, then you have my permission to do so |

I used to like chicken, and it was useful to have it as an 'eating out' alternative, but I sure prefer to have no abdominal twinges. I like your name, and sure that it helps you keep young! |

Watch, 25 years down the road there'll be a big article in the NY Times saying: "Genotype Doc Was Found To Be Right!", Say Experts.
I hope less time than that.. |

Here's what I just e-mailed Megan:
Megan,
I was disappointed to read your rather abrupt review of the GenoType Diet. You seem quick to discredit his research, just like the medical profession has always done with anything ground-breaking they didn't discover themselves.
If I were to write reviews of new diets I think I would try it a little longer than just one day. How about giving it a month or two and then see how you would rate it? I have been on the GenoType Diet for three months now, and was on Dr. D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet for three years before that. Every single one of my health issues has been addressed by one or the other of the diets. I do not have a weight issue now. I do not have hypoglycemia anymore. I no longer have acne. I don't have a white coating on my tongue anymore. My dandruff is gone, my heavy periods are gone, my fibromyalgia and depression are gone. I am not a scientist. I simply tried the diet and it worked for me. I don't need "science" to tell me if a diet is right for me, I need results. And results are what I have. I'll take my incredible results over anybody's science any day.
In health,

Here's my response from the so-called "expert"
Hello Diana -
Thank you for taking the time to email me. I can understand your opinion about some of my observations being pre-mature about Dr. D'Adamo's GenoType diet - I do believe that I commented to Megan Olgilvie that this current book read very much like a hypothesis to me that had very plausible reasoning, but had not yet been tested through the use of double blind, randomized controlled trials to have the "scientific proof" that was mentioned in the expert opinion summary. Unfortunately, not all that is mentioned in media interviews makes it to print! While dietitians tend to lean in the direction of the western, evidence-based model of medicine, I am always open to the more naturopathic/homoeopathic view of health, and have had many patients that have benefited from the care of naturopathic doctors. I do believe that we will see that many of these so-called "natural" remedies will be proven true when put to the test, however, without this proof my personal preference as a practitioner is not to endorse a diet until we can evaluate it's effectiveness on a randomized, representative population.
Many thanks,
Stefanie Shalagan, M.A.N., RD Registered Dietitian |
