Yesterday I read a post about healing your gut. I think it was from Lola. You know.... that is a very important sentence. I thought about it all day today when I was at work. It is such a simple sentence, but it is the answer to all our problems. The world does not want to know this fact, however, and when I start to tell them, they tune me out. That is okay, because I can talk to myself and remind myself to eat right to heal me from the inside out.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. Blessings, meribelle

Help me heal my gut...! I've been on the BTD for almost 2 years now. For about the last 2 months I've been having stomach pains (usually after eating), bloating, bad gas and cramping. I haven't changed anything in my diet and I'm almost 100% compliment (i take Deflect occasionally if I know I'll be eating somewhere with hidden avoids). I'm working on portion control thinking that maybe I'm just eating too much? I've finally gave up and went to the doctor because the pain was becoming unbearable. I got a blood test and no viruses, and in a week I'm getting an ultrasound to see if it's my ovaries. For the meantime, the doctor gave me something for the bloating and cramps, but I'd say it only helps a little...I still hurt.
I've tried also to variate my foods and I always mix in a beneficial with every meal. I was eating a lot of soy and dried fruits, so I eliminated that but still, no big difference.
Does anyone have an idea out there? Any suggestions are much appreciated!
are you sure you are a secretor? soy can be a problem for non secretors...... you could be one, and your diet would need some tweaking.
try to keep your grains and legumes to a minimum, and up your veggies and protein.
are you by any chance gluten intolerant? cheese can also make me very miserable.......what do you do about cheese in France?

Meribelle, you can tell me this all you want. I am a firm believer. As a nurse I see this on the front lines everyday. Sick bodies from sick GI tracts.

blood antigen friendly probiotics, good fiber from fruit, beans and vegetables, ghee, low gluten, low alcohol, low processed sugar, sprouts and a colonic once in a while...for O's and B's...grass fed beef, EFA's from oil's and fish and of course clean water and green tea
My health has not been too good this last year and I'm almost certain it's my gut. It all started with H.Pylori, which I still seem to have and I have not yet hit on healing my gut completely. I think I'm getting there. I was following the wrong blood type too for a while so that's not good. But yes, I think most of my problems are in my gut and it seems to affect everything else greatly. If you're not getting your nutrients, your whole body isn't going to work like it should and once that balance gets thrown off, I don't know. I feel like there has been a war going on in my body and the shame of it is sometimes I feel like I'm losing. I'm going to see a new doctor on Monday who believes in the blood type diet. He's an MD but his modus operendi is to treat with supplements and the blood type and only in extreme cases use medicine. He at first specialized in autistic children. And there seems to be an overwhelming link to the gut and that too. My little nephew has been so much better after seeing this guy. He was never diagnosed as autistic by Doctors, due to the fact that my sister didn't want to be subjected to their "wisdom" and was very choosey about who they'd take him to. But I can tell you ever since they limited his bread intake and got him on supplements that help and a better diet, he has made leaps and bounds. He has way more energy and he will talk to you and pay attention. For about a year he was like comatose. It was scary. He wasn't like that when he was a baby.
So, sorry for the long response but I agree. Another lady named Pat Zifferblat from the Better Life Institute use to say it all starts with your gut. Then she'd pat pat pat pat her gut.

Mirabelle, thank you for introducing this extremely important topic! Healing our gut is one of THE most important things we can do for our health, and the benefits of doing so are so far-reaching, it is mind-blowing!
Does anyone have a link to the information on how the immune system begins in the gut? That's a fascinating bit of knowledge!
Expe4, have you tried going completely gluten-free? Also, watch for hidden avoids and chemicals in pre-packaged foods and eating in restaurants. Another idea is to use a little licorice, which can help type O's who are prone to ulcers.
ABNoWay, you are fortunate to have that kind of doctor available to you! That's the way doctors should treat, in my opinion. Let us know what he thinks about your situation and what his suggestions are.

Lola, Thanks for the link, I'll look into ordering that. I'd like to take Deflect regularly but it's not in my budget for everyday use. I take however one bladderwack every day before lunch. I don't know if it's helping but it's a suppose to be good for Os. I've gone almost completely gluten-free since I started the BTD. Every now and then I use spelt or rye flour in a recipe, but i try to avoid that as well. I hardly ever eat grains, maybe 2-3 servings a week of rice, quinoa or buckwheat. I eat at least 2 servings of meat a day (breakfast and lunch) and a bunch of veggies! I love vegetables. I was melting ghee on my veggies for awhile there and I stopped because I think it was making me gain weight. It tasted a little too good...
As for the cheese...in France...yes at first I thought I was nuts to give it up, but I did it and I really don't miss it. Same goes for the bread. Occasionally I'll eat some goat cheese, but very rarely. I'd admit though that I'm a softy for red wine. Luckly it's a neutral! We have it almost every night with dinner...but I've been drinking it for awhile now and it's just recently that I've been having gut problems so I don't think it's that.
This is what I ate today which is typical everyday (well, not the same thing, but meat/veggie portion wise):
Breakfast: -apple (20 minutes before) -A slice of a veggie flan homemade (buckwheat flour, zuccini, red pepper, eggplant, and onion) -a piece of leftover turkey -green tea
Lunch: -steamed broccoli -cut up breast of chicken -homemade vinaigrette (lemon juice, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, vinegar-free mustard, salt)
Dinner: -Omlette (3 eggs with quinoa flakes mixed in) -stir fried veggies (zucchini, tomatoes, garlic, basil and caraway seed) -glass of red wine
I make sure to eat slowly, chew my food well, not drink too many liquids...the whole works. And I work out at the gym 3-4 times a week.
I've been thinking lately that maybe the pains are stress related. I don't necessarily feel over stressed, but whenever I have an anxiety or nervousness, I concentrate that energy towards my gut. Right away if I'm worried about something, little or big, I immediately get knots in my stomach. I'm starting now each morning to take deep breaths, and at times of anxiety, I tell myself to just relax, breath deep. What I don't like is that most of my anxieties are food related. Did I eat too much? Will I get home in time to make a healthy meal and not too late before going to bed? etc. Sometimes I think I'm driving myself crazy! I try to remind myself to continue to live life and not live for food, but it's tough.
Ok, I'm sorry this is getting so long. Thank you if you've made it this far through my post!

Expe4. I feel for you. Deep breaths are good. Relax. I know why you are so into making sure the food is right. Because you can tell the difference that it makes to your body I bet. Which is a good thing. And you know you don't want to do something to hurt yourself. I totally can relate. I also struggle with staying relaxed about things. Seems like 75% of it is stuff that isn't probably true, but I still wrestle with them.
ETA: your menu sounds delicious!!!
Victoria, thank you for taking an interest. I feel so special. I will keep you updated on how it's going. Sometimes I feel like I'm talking too much about myself. But in return I actually like hearing about other peoples struggles. Puts us all in a family of sorts and I don't feel alone.

Hi Anna, while you are trying to figure things out, sip some fennel or peppermint tea. Both are anti cramp teas. Also don't forget the old trusty hot water bottle on your tummy and rubbing it clockwise will relieve some pain. My bit of wisdom re. stress: make sure you get enough sleep or even more than usual. Your body (and your gut) heal while you are sleeping!

Gracious, feel free to tell us about yourself. Each time one of us tells something, there is usually a response that lends someone a new piece of info. It's all good!!!

Anna, O's have a higher stomach acid level...and the best food categories to neutralise this would be red meat and ghee on an empty stomach (first thng in the morning and last thing at night)
I couldnt help notice a lack of beneficials in your list. There are no AVOIDS, so that's a plus. But neutrals dont have the medicinal effects beneficials have. Grains on a tummy already having issues may not be a good idea at this point either. Unless you are of Asian origin of course! The best advice I was given by these good people was to eat beneficial protein & veg for b'fast and keep grains & root veg for the evening meal.
Daily exercise & time to unwind is very crucial for O's and helps with getting the knots out of your tummy.

Thanks Yvonneb! I'm gonna try your tips. And that's a good point about sleep. I could definitely use more.

That's true, I was lacking quite a bit of beneficials yesterday. I slept pretty bad last night too. I woke up periodically every 2 hours with work on my mind and a little hungry.
This morning I started the day with a slice of lean meat loaf and steamed broccoli. I think it's gonna be a good day today
I use quinoa flakes in my meat loaf instead of oats. I read that quinoa actually has more properties of a vegetable (like kale) than a grain, and it's highly proteined.

I just love reading all these posts..... I, too, sometimes don't sleep well at night, but I never related it to not eating beneficials! What a concept! And I really need to exercise.
I have been out of town for my job and it is so hard to eat 'right.' Now that I am home I hope I can do better. I have some bison cooking in the skillet and it is 4:40AM! I will take it for lunch today with some fresh spinach and a hard boiled Easter egg. What is a good olive oil dressing? Or any kind of EASY dressing. I use Paul Newman's Olive Oil and Vinegrette. Any suggestions?

Maybe I missed it, but are you following the BTD or the GTD? There are different foods for each list. Perhaps in addition to what everyone else has said here, you need to try the opposite plan.

I do too travel a lot for my job and restaurants can be tricky. One night we were with a group of 20 and I could only choose from 3 things on the menu. With so many people, and ordering was complicated enough, I just went with the steak thinking I'd be safe, but of course it was covered in a heavy cream sauce. Even with Deflect, I slept horrible and woke up the next morning super puffy and in a daze. Each business trip takes me at least a week to recover.
This is my vinegrette that i use on just about everything:
Tablespoon olive oil Tablespoon apple cider vinegar Teaspoon of mustard (i found mustard with acv) salt cracked pepper occasionnally herbs like thyme, herbes de provence, rosemary...
It's the typical French vinegrette used on salads, rice, raw veggies, etc. Except they use other vinegars in most cases.
