Resveratrol can be had in supplement form. There is clearly something that is in red that is not in white that is causing a problem. We know it isn't resveratrol. It would probably take a response from Dr D to explain unless someone else manages to sleuth it out. He answers BTD questions on this site, GTD questions (contractually) at http://www.genotypediet.com , a site run by the publisher of the book. |

Other than grape species, isn't "skin" the only difference between red and white wine? Maybe organic red wine would be ok. This doesn't explain why it is ok for other types, though, so I really don't have a clue. |

It's especially interesting since Resveratol is good for Gatherers. |

I'm with you, I have avoided white wine for ages as it seems to give me a headache (whether wine or the chemicals I don't know),which red wine does not. And I prefer the taste of red wine. But I don't drink very often anyway, and it does affect me very quickly (one glass can make me tipsy! ).I also make sure I drink plenty of water, so I don't get too dehydrated. So I think in this respect I will carry on as I have been! (I think on the B nonnie red wine was a beneficial so it seems a bit drastic for it to become a complete 'toxin') |

I've tried to pry it out of my DH who makes wine: what is the difference between red and white wine as far as how it affects a person....finally ......the truth comes out.....red wine contains histamines in the anthocyanins which are colorbodies that white doesn't have. some people get headaches from red wine but not white, and that is why, (tho they often think it is the sulphites but its not cuz red wine has just as much -or more- sulphite) now this could be the reasoning used by Dr. D....or not....just thought I'd give it a shot.
And I can see going for whites for 6 mo. and then seeing how the occassional red works out....not what the diet says, though. (DH makes an awesome sauvignon blanc!) |

Maybe. Interesting info from the Wikipedia page on anthocyanins, not sure if/how it plays in:
Quoted Text
On a molecular level, berry anthocyanins were shown to turn off genes involved with proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation and angiogenesis.

I don't suppose you've stopped to consider that red wine vinegar is not a toxin for gatherers. |

Not sure. I don't have a 'handle' on it. Giving it some thought, there are a couple areas to look at... Consider that red wine is 'worse' than white wine, and wine vinegar is better than it's alcoholic counterpart. Go from there, taking a special look at Gatherer's known problem areas to see if there is a cause/effect type match. That's one approach. Another is to ask Dr. D at the other site. |

Considering that Gatherers are said to be prone to cancers of the reproductive system, I am thinking that the alcohol content would be one of the main issues. Alcohol is now more than ever considered to be a 'cause' of breast cancer.(Re: the 'Harvard nurses' study and a few more recent studies in Australia.) Red wine usually contains a higher alcohol percentage than white wine. |
