Just wondering if anyone knows if sheep's milk & products have been tested as I have seen some unpasteurised milk for sale & would love to try it? I had some lovely sheep's cheeses & yoghurt (lovely & mild) in France last year, but never tried the milk, and see it's not listed in the book. |

Hello Gatherers!! Let me know if you find any commercial milk that is ok for us... I see that rice milk is good, but the rice milk in the hfs has lots of extra stuff in it.. I'm sure there are avoids... I'd LOVE to have sheep's milk!!! I've never tried it.. but that sure would be nice in my green tea... keep me posted. |

Hi Debra, nice to hear you too, Gatherers united, never guessed at Samos ! I can't believe you haven't found anything without avoids! I am not totally sure if I should have any dairy really but I like it, goat's cheese when I can get it (I don't like soft goat's cheese very much), i have some Quark at the moment which is a new one (funnily enough, I took the book to my mum's a couple of weeks ago and said I hadn't heard of Quark, I didn't know what it was, and she had some in the fridge! Had bought it for my sister at Christmas which she didn't have. I put some in a celery stick the other day which was ok (tuna was nice as well) - haven't eaten celery for ages, but giving that a go now. My local shop doesn't have much, except cottage cheese, which is not terribly exciting, but I shall try it again, and try to make it interesting (it's nicer with pineapple. Sheriberry - I sympathise over the rice milk, every one I have ever seen over here has sunflower oil in it.. Maybe I shall take a risk and try the sheeps milk, for me I like sometimes having a hot milky drink, to warm me up, and to have something more filling than tea or water. But I just wonder if as cow & goat milk are on the 'no' list sheep's milk should be as well (mind you, it's not cheap so I wouldn't be having a lot! Any other thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. |

make your own quark or paneer, and you know what goes in it! choose organic milk and add lemon juice to it after it has cooled down some......pass through cheese cloth.....nothing to it, easy! it is a new experience, buying milk!!! lol |

I don't see sheepsmilk listed for any type, buffalo, goat, and Indian Buffalo Milk are listed, and could be assumed to be neutral for gatherers (except goat milk is listed as a black dot). I'd guess that sheepsmilk would be a black dot at worst, neutral at best.
Now, where to buy buffalo milk...? |

I wouldn't expect to find buffalo milk where I live! But there's plenty of sheep I haven't done anthing about the sheep's milk, but i have been buying some rice milk, even though they all have sunflower oil in..I drank some before my ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago, (I knew I couldn't drink 2 pints of water!) and the nurse said that was good as the carbohydrate helps the liquid stay in longer. Definitely helped, I had to wait an hour & a half for a scan & my bladder was comfortable ( the night before i had drunk plain water in the hotel room & was up & down to the toilet all night, and I don't know why but it seems to make my bladder really uncomfortable). Anyway, I am enjoying cottage cheese with pineapple.I have started adding cheeses in combination with other foods too, which helps fill me up. And I feel like I am much more satisfied with the food I am eating - and I am experimenting more. I had a pumelo{sp} yesterday, and am trying grapefruit. (used to find it too sour but these ones I am trying seem ok). |
