I am a full time working person and don't have time to bake bread. Most every day I take my lunch and many times there is no place to heat it. I used to take a sandwich on Ezekiel bread. Now that bread is an avoid, so has anyone found something I can use to make a sandwich? |

Is Ezekiel an avoid? I am still eating it. Why is it an avoid? |

I was wondering the same thing. I understood that Ezekiel bread was "the same" as Essene/Manna bread, just a different brand name. We can only get Ezekiel bread here so I can't compare ingredients. We're still eating ours...
Anyone know? |

There is a question about the ratings of Essene and 100% sprouted wheat for Gatherers that I am looking for the answer to, whether one or the other is an errata.
In the meantime I would treat Ezekial the same as 100% sprouted wheat, but the choice is yours as there is no clear answer at this point. |

So it has been a long day at work, and I have loaned my book to a dear friend, so isn't 100% sprouted wheat an avoid? In the beginning I tried to find Manna bread here in Texas and I could not. I looked on line and the picture of it did not look at all like Ezekiel bread. I think they are different, but I can be wrong. I know the best thing to do is to not eat grains, but sometimes a sandwich is all I can throw together. I loved the BTD and I am learning to love the GTD, but you still have to live and eat in the real world. That means sometimes I use Hellmans mayonnaise instead of home made and some times I use store bought bread. So, how about millet bread? |

Quoted from Ingredients in Ezekiel bread from Food for Life
INGREDIENTS: Organic Sprouted Whole Wheat, Filtered Water, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Millet, Organic Sprouted Whole Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Lentils, Organic Sprouted Whole Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Whole Spelt, Fresh Yeast, Sea Salt.
100% sprouted wheat, sprouted lentils, and spelt are black-dot avoids for Gatherers. Sprouted soybean is an avoid for Gatherers (no black dot). Therefore, Ezekiel bread would be an avoid. Even before GTD I had cut out Ezekiel bread because I noticed I didn't feel great after eating it, especially the next morning. However, in the summer I still occasionally have the hamburger buns, because they are so good! |

Has anyone ever had Hemp bread? I bought a loaf at HEB which is a grocery store here in Texas. It has sprouted grains, but also poppy seeds. I think poppy seeds are avoids for gatherers. Oh my, what a terrible mess.... to be breadless. Thanks, for looking up the real truth about Ezekiel bread. I have a loaf in the freezer that will just have to stay there. |

Ah Ha. I answered my own question by CAREFULLY reading the label on Hemp Bread. No wonder I liked it! It has whole wheat, refined wheat and wheat gluten!!! Guess I will add it to the give away pile! That explains why my eyes itch now after two days of sammies made with it!!! Well, tomorrow lunch will be something I can eat with a spoon, I guess! |

Have you ever made your sandwich on romaine lettuce? It works and you are away from grain. |

I use and love millet bread by Food for Life....it isn't perfect (has xanthan gum and safflower oil) but I would suspect they are in small amounts. Also rice flour. |

That flax foccacia bread recipe is pretty easy and quick to make. About 7 minutes of prep, 20 mintues in the oven, and you'd have enough bread for a week's worth of sandwiches. (For one person) |

Where does one find the flax foccacia bread recipe? I love making bread. Also, I may buy a loaf of millet. I really think the lettuce idea is the best, though. I always get sleepy after I eat grains. |

I make this for my sons lunches. We get 12 slices from ours and he uses it for all his sandwiches. I put 2 slices in a baggie and toss them in the fridge. I heard they freeze well but have not tried it. Also you can add some spices and make it garlic or Italian style! YUM. Not to self "try this idea" Jean |

Hehe, I just finished eating some italian herbed ffb (flax focaccia bread- I'm in the military, I'm all about three letter acronyms ) that was in the freezer yesterday and thawed on the counter at night. You can freeze it, you can toast it, you can season it... it really is brilliant. And have you tried the muffin recipe yet? Delish! I've had one at brekkie every morning this week. Though, as a BTDer, I think the next batch will be a mango/strawberry with grapefruit rind combination... *maybe* even add in some oats. I tell you, I had NO idea how versatile flax could be... |

Well, I just saw the link last night and it reminded me that I meant to make this great-sounding, easy bread, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the thread! It was a Gatherer thread, I think. Ah, here you are: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/breads/r/flaxbasicfoc.htm |
