To be said to the tune of Elaine on Seinfeld: "Get OUT!!!!!!!!!!" Dr. D. is going to be on The View?! How totally and UTTERLY awesome! I'm talking colossal awesomeness! This is going to be major, major exposure! Maybe the world is ready now for a healthy, non-reductionist, individualized diet. Weeeee! I knew there was a reason I decided to stay here a tad late today in order to get a moment to peruse the board! I have been very busy today at work and only got about five minutes of board perusal time in earlier today. Well, that is not sufficient for my daily "board fix", so I just had to stay late and I'm glad I did, because this is very exciting news indeed! I shall definitely program my VCR (...what? So some of us are still in the dark ages, what of it? ) to catch Friday's View. Thanks for posting this news flash, Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola!!!! |

Don't feel badly, PT. I don't have any means of recording the program so I hope they will have video on the abc.com site to view after it airs. |

Oh. Well, Lola, I just tried to Google info. on this week's View, to see if it mentions the Genotype Diet in particular, and I came across the following blurb from the Genotype Diet site, is this where you got the info. from? From this:
"DON'T MISS THESE DATES! Friday, February 25, 2008, 11:00 a.m. Dr. Peter D'Adamo will be a guest on a special weight-loss edition of "The View."
If so:
1. It isn't this Friday, it is the 25th of Feb (my mom's b-day!).
2. It does say Dr. D. is a guest, so that is erroneous 411, according to Dr. D.'s post here. Someone should alert the Genotype Diet webmaster(s) to change it to just say that the Genotype Diet will be one of the featured diets or one of the diets discussed or something, but not that Dr. D. will be a guest.
Anyway...I'm still going to tape it and see what the gals say about it. It will probably be, like, one sentence. I hope it is a positive sentence *lol*. But any publicity is good publicity, or so "they" say. (Whoever "they" are.) |

Definitely worth watching! Too bad Dr. D isn't going to be there (although I think that might just be a little too close to his own personal vision of hell, ), but fingers crossed the GTD gets positive exposure. As Suzanna said, no unrealistic expectations, but what the heck! |

Hi, We have asked the people at GenoTypeDiet.com to make corrections to their info. The GenoType Diet was one of several diets that they will be discussing on Friday's show. Ann |

... and if they don't say very much about the GTD, maybe somebody could post it here, for the benefit of us impoverished souls with dial-up Internet access? Or if they DO say very much, at least the gist of it? Maybe I'll actually watch it, but ...
... I'll have to put a post-it on the alarm clock and then one on the TV and one on the bathroom mirror and one on the...

What would be great would be to see Dr. D on The Colbert Report (because I am in love with Steven). Dr. D probably wouldn't get to say much about his book but it would probably be a funny exchange (because Steven's always funny). |

I think, and have said for eons, that the ideal venue for Dr. D. to present his non-sound-byte-fitting, anti-reductionist ideas to the world would be a PBS special, you know, the kind they have during pledge drives. The kind wherein the speaker gets to talk for HOURS and present her or his ideas in all their complex detail and glory. PBS specials run the spectrum from truly great people (such as Christiane Northrup and Nicholas Perricone) to infuriating idiots (such as that Wayne Dyer person...do NOT get me started). I feel that they need some shoring up on the great person end of the spectrum, because the idiots are threatening to drag them down, so they really could use Dr. D. in the mix. |

I should have timed it, but they had a doctor (who seemed like a fairly sensible fellow) describe three "hot" diets, and it seemed like the GTD got the least amount of time, maybe two minutes. Most of that consisted of snide remarks from the regulars ("Oh, that guy again!"). The doctor did mention some of the characteristics of certain GT's, but unfortunately the regulars misunderstood much of what he said (e.g., they seemed to take "thrifty with food" to mean "doesn't eat much").
Ironically, the regulars had spent the first part of the show comparing their personal quirks.
Oh, well.

I just watched today's View (and remembered why I hate this show, but that's for another thread in Little Fishes someday). The review of the three 'hot' diets was as perfunctory as I thought it would be. At least they had an MD talking about the diets and not a former English major. There were the de rigeur ignorant and/or nasty comments; you knew the regulars would make fun of whatever was featured and they didn't disappoint. I will say the doctor presenting the diets had a basic correct knowledge of each one, even if he did read the information off an index card. But to praise Dr. Ornish's diet for the fact that he recommends you meditate? Come on! Did no one read the recommendations for each GT in the new book?
At least they sent everyone home with all three diet books. Maybe a few people will pick up on the GTD that way. |

My best laugh of the hour: Joy picked up a beautiful lush kabob of grilled lamb from the GenoType diet display table and said 'that's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen!' while I was saying out loud, 'MAN that lamb looks good!' HAH! It's all a matter of perspective. Carol, I was tempted to turn off the tv several times during the hour, so I don't blame you for leaving early. As far as I'm concerned, the only redeeming part of the whole show (besides seeing the GT book on the screen) was the interview with David Smith, the man who lost 400 pounds through a change in diet, regular exercise and positive thinking (and with the help of a supportive and compassionate trainer). 400 pounds! That really gave me a boost. Whoopi's comments make me wonder what GT she is, though. I could care less what type the others are, since I can't stand them. JMO |

Ditto, ditto, ditto.... ... but a couple other "good" parts of the segment: it was described as one of the "hot" new diets and they flashed the book cover on the screen (not just held up a copy of the book). Worth it just for that bit, imo... Although sketchy, at least the MD did not say anything blatantly inaccurate. And with the piece being at the end of the show, I could make my oatmeal and take a shower while I waited for it to be on. |

I expected the stupid remarks, but it hurt anyway to hear Joy brush Dr. D off like that. You know that comes from ignorance. I liked the segment on the 600+ lb guy, and I liked the way they broke down the pregnancy weight. Oh, and the fact that they gave the audience the new GTD book, hey, that's good! Personally, I think gastric bypass is a terrible thing to do to a body, especially when some people find out it doesn't keep the weight off. A couple of people in this area have died from having it recently, either right away or soon after. Yeah, Whoopi, whom I love, intrigues me w/her appetite situation. Going all day without getting hungry rarely happens to me. But I've noticed when I'm eating 'wrong,' my appetite doesn't work properly. I'm thinking the last diet mentioned, whatever it was, was going to have mass appeal because the guy kept saying something like no guilt. It made sense to me, on one level, to have them label foods better in their original states as better than the most fooled-with (battered, fried, etc.) states. But we know it's even more important what you're eating or not eating! |
