Cod liver oil is not on my ok list like it was on the A+ nonnie list. Flaxseed and flax oil are black dot foods so I will have to hold off on them for awhile. Anyone got suggestions for Omega 3 sources for Explorers? Hopefully not something really exotic that is expensive or too hard to find. |

I was just thinking about this yesterday, too. I wonder if Cod Liver Oil is classified as an avoid because of blood thinning issues? It's an avoid for Type O nonnies, which I think most Explorers are. It could be that you're a victim of GTD statistics and that it's still okay for you. But I really don't know. |
| My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer. |

fish oils are the best for exploreres (this is what they use in the synergist formula for Hunters and Exploreres) ... http://www.aboessentials.com/images/April/Hunter%20Exlorer%20S.JPG
Hi Mike--do you happen to know what type of fish oil is in the pill? I cannot tell from the link. I have had Ciguatera food poisoning and there is a list of about 400 species of fish that I need to avoid consuming in the future. I was told that the reaction from consuming the wrong type of fish might be severe (coma). I can contact NAP when I am ready to order, if you do not know. I would like to do the explorer synergist supplements, but borage may be safer for me. |

FYI, BORAGE oil is not an omega 3 oil. It's GLA and high in omega 6. In the Synergist formula for Explorers, it says the 1,000 mg of oil is from marine lipids. If you're looking to get omega 3, you have to choose a fish oil or flax oil. I would think that if Dr. D is adding fish oil to a supplement, it's going to be high quality, molecular distilled fish oil, free of all contaminants.

I can testify to one thing that speaks very loudly about NAP and what level of integrity they strive for. The Warrior/Gatherer Synergist formula turned out to have a minuscule amount of caramel in it (literally in parts per million). NAP was not advised of this when they purchased the raw materials, because the caramel is only added as a 'light block' since Conjugated Linoleic Acid /CLA (the main ingredient in Warrior/Gatherer Synergist) is photo-degraded and as such it is not a 'proper' ingredient.
When NAP found out about it, they immediately decided to trash the entire product inventory and opt for another formula that uses another light blocking agent. I'm guessing that about 5,000 bottles of CLA will be sent to some deserving Native American Reservation or perhaps maybe Cuba or some other place.
The labels, BTW, probably could have been amended to not even mention the caramel.

One more comment on the Borage. Now that I look in the book I see that Borage is listed as a regular toxin for explorers (no black dot). I was using flax (both the oil and the seed), but flax got black dotted for explorers so have now stopped using flax. Ciguatera can be still be present in fish oil, so I am supposed to verify the type of fish the oild was made from (and depending on the species the area where the fish was caught) before consuming a fish oil supplement. |
