I just thought i would copy that other thread except make it for us nomads!!

--> i tried maple syrup in my oatmeal today instead of my regular berries (i hadnt had it since before starting btd) with some chopped walnuts - it was good, but i good barely taste the walnuts, and i only used a teaspoon of m.s., plus it felt "bad" eating it because its so sweet, i felt like i was cheating lol!! even though it is a bene of course!

--> sauteed mushrooms, kale, and onions - such an energy giver!

--> and of course who can forget nav beans and yams for later on...

Lots of rice and steamed veggies--broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, peas.  I made a beef stew with rice, great northern beans, mushrooms, green beans, celery, carrots, and a cup of sour cream (which I shouldn't have added, but it has only marginally hurt the taste), seasoned with cayenne (also didn't need this), oregano, rosemary, and sea salt.  Rice. Roast turkey. Oatmeal with raisins, crushed walnuts, honey/molassas.  Caffeine-free green tea, peppermint tea, and "Red Zinger" tea, with honey.  Yogurt, cheddar cheese, colby cheese, and monterey jack cheese.  And did I mention rice?

I just bought some heavy cream, too.  I'm still not sure if it's allowed on the Nomad diet, since milk and half & half are gone, but I'm hoping it will be fine for me.  I really miss the creamy taste milk adds to my oatmeal!

Today,  for breakfast I had a 1/2 cup of navy beans, basmati rice and eggplant; garnished with garlic, olive oil, turmeric, paprika, cloves and brittany seasalt  !!

Lunch was 2 pieces of manna bread with lots of almond butter ... yum !!
A couple hours later I had a gingko ginger tea ... and as snacks I ate a pear, apple and an orange  

As an in between snack before dinner I'll eat a banana with some yogurt, raisins and a dollop of honey !!

For dinner,  I plan to have some feta cheese with a bowl of quinoa and green peas with lots of onions and I want my cayenne pepper all over that dish !!

For breakfast I had oatmeal with salt and butter, lots-o-buttah!  MMMM.....  Plus some green tea with agave nectar.  Lunch was 2 fried eggs, some colby-jalapeno cheese and veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) and blueberry tea.  

I have a bison/lamb meatloaf in the oven right now.  I'll find some veggie to fix with it.

Also had 2 peppermint sticks, the soft kind.  I know the superfood peppermint does not cross out the toxin sugar, but, you know, they were in the house and I have to get rid of them.....     ya know?


99.8% sure I'm a Nomad.

Have any of you been following the food combinations suggestion?? im finding it rather difficult, but somewhat helpful... i guess lol!!

also, 2-4 ounces of cheese!! im not used to eating this much, im afraid i usually eat around 1 ounce lol!! im scared to gain wait if i add more??

rice... havent had that in ages. i prefer yams and yes, i need to cut down on butter hmmmmmmmmmm

I never eat 2-4 oz of cheese at once, but I nibble on it frequently, so I figure, smaller serving sizes with more frequent servings adds up to about the same amount!

I just got the book so now that I am really confident with my Nomad status and feel comfortable with the reason behind some of the food changes, I'm almost ready to dive in.

During my transition period, I've been eating a lot of oat bran, brown rice, yams, salad, kale, chard, nuts (almonds, macadamia and walnuts), cheddar and gruyere cheese, yogurt, apples, pears, grapefruit, turkey, bison and lamb. My fruit has been lacking because my CSA doesn't have a lot to offer this time of year. I'm going to have to sit down this weekend and figure out a shopping list and loose weekly menu though. Right now, I feel like I'm scavenging for whatever compliant food is in the house and probably not eating enough. I'm also waiting for my hubby's secretor results since he's teetering between Teacher and Explorer (I hope to God he's a nonnie). THEN I have to figure out how to factor in his GT and my daughter's A status since she's too young to measure (how's that children's calculator coming along, Dr. D?) and figure out what the heck we're all going to eat!

I'm also going to have to try rice milk one of these days but I haven't been brave enough yet. If I can develop a taste for it, I'll make the leap to preparing my own since I can't find any without carrageenan.

I'm a Teacher, but DH is a Nomad.  I hope it's ok that I post here because we've been eating pretty well.

Last night I did some ground turkey, pinto beans, cheddar cheese and romaine letuce for a sort-of taco salad (sans chips or bread).  DH really liked that.

I did some brown rice (just water and rice) and added caramelized onion, salt and parmessian cheese.  We ate that with broiled wild salmon and a green salad. (That was Monday)

The night before was brown rice with broccoli, ground turkey and a cheddar cheese sauce that I made with an oat flour rouix and turkey broth (instead of milk). It was sort-of a hot dish/casserole.

Sunday was lamb burgers (I put Penzey's greek salad dressing mix in the lamb) on ezekiel buns (had to use 'em up) and a green salad with asparagus (using that up too).

We've also had Ostrich burgers (yum) with a salad and green beans.

For breakfasts, he's eating his regular oat cereal, or my home made granola with raisins and almonds... or a smoothie with blueberries, raspberries and pink grapefruit juice and kiefer (and oat bran - but he doesn't know it)... really, all of the above selections get kiefer.

The milk has been the toughest to give up... and the potatoes.  He won't eat eggs (no scrambles or in quiche or frittata), so there is also that constraint.

Hey don't use up the asparagus that is a beneficial for your nomad. Unfortunately the pinto beans are an avoid. He might appreciate some of the cheeses that you can't have. Beer and red wines are beneficials.

I'm going to try calf liver tonight with a breading of food processor ground oatmeal(cheaper than buying oat flour at my local health food store) with the liver dipped in egg first. I'll brown some onions and mushrooms in the pan afterwards. I made some great split pea soup with turkey, curry spices, cummin, celery, carrots ect. in the crockpot. Been eating lamb sausage from whole foods and buffalo sausage as well. A lot of salads from the grocery store salad bar. Luckily I do love eggs, mushroom frittata. Lastly I eat a lot of fresh fruit and raw nuts.

Is this a typo on the GTD site then? I only borrowed the book from someone but don't have my own copy to review yet. The GTD site does not list pinto beans so they should be neutral?

I think, though, that if it's an item you can find on another GT list, you can safely assume it was also tested for yours and is neutral if not shown. Besides, it seems Dr. D was EXTREMELY thorough in his testing (horse?) to take many different cultural culinary tastes into account.

Today,  I ate lamb minced meat with basmati rice and eggplant ... with turmeric and paprika ... sooo yummmiiiiiiii

What teas r my fellow Nomads drinking on a daily basis ??
I've been drinking quite a bit of peppermint tea, fennel tea and green tea ... every few days I might have some chamomile or green tea with licorice  

Today, I decided to have a cup of Rooibos teas ... hopefully it's a neutral ... IF anybody knows otherwise; please do tell  

Oh and another thing ... when u up ur tea intake ...
should one also drink more water ??
I know that when u use ALOT of spice u should drink more ...

i'm usually a big green tea drinker, with peppermint tea usually after dinner (helps digestion) and licorice tea when i have it.

so has anyone been following the food combining recommendations?? i never really got an answer lol but doesnt seam like it... i never did it before so i was wondering if it actually makes a difference?????

About the tea, I'm actually having to cut back since I'm trying to have a baby  . Peppermint, ginseng and licorice are out (they're okay in small doses but I probably won't take the risk). Raspberry leaf (which is only neutral anyway) will have to wait until the end of gestation. I bought some gingerroot-peppermint tea but, due to the aforementioned peppermint, I gave it away. I'll have to stick with plain ginger and green tea I guess.

like ive been trying it lately, i find it just lets you feel how full you are and you don't end up over eating, however its kind of a pain b/c if your in a rush you cant rele eat everything you want at the same time (ie you cant have an egg in the morning and then have yogurt)

I was in a hurry today and had NO time to cook,  hence I stopped in a grocery store and bought chesse and bread ... I really had to make a fast decision  

Firm interior ripened Swiss cheese, Lactose free.
Ingredients: Made from pasteurized milk, bacterial culture,  salt, microbial enzyme.

Rye and Spelt bread.
Ingredients: Rye flour, Spelt flour, Spelt sourdough, seasalt.

They're black dot ingredients, I realize; however, it's really the BEST that I could do under the circumstances  

I also ate a cucumber with the sandwich

For breakfast today I made an mushroom omelette with a little Jarlsberg cheese, very good. Just cooked the mushrooms in olive oil and poured the beaten eggs over it then added the cheese to it.

I cooked the calf liver last night so I can eat off that for a couple of days.

Today I had a hamburger patty for lunch (beef is neutral right?) along with a nice big salad (romaine, baby spinach, carrots, cucumbers, strawberries, walnuts, EVOO dressing).

Snack I had some whole milk yogurt with thawed frozen cherries (mmm).

Dinner was turkey kielbasa/kale/brown rice pot all just cooked together with some butter.  I used as little rice as possible because I don't do well on the carbs.

Dessert was dried peach halves.

I started a genotype blog and I'm going to be posting all my food on it, it's at http://gt6nomad.blogspot.com.  

Does anyone have any bright ideas for sweetening drinks without sugar?  I used to use stevia, but it's an avoid.

Well agave and glycerine are both still sugar, so I don't really want to use them.  Same with honey and maple syrup.

I tried sardines for the first time, mashed up with olive oil, herbs and steamed veggies and tossed with rice linguine. Not in love with them. I want some other fish options that I can get locally besides salmon and halibut (which is an avoid for my DH) but I just don't know if I can embrace sardines. Their little heads were even cut off already and I thought that would be my biggest issue.

Kate, I have problems with sardines too.  I find I can eat them only two ways.  1) mashed and put on some kind of crispy cracker thing with lots of capers (can't do that anymore b/c capers are out) or 2) made into a sardine "burger" by mashing it up with an egg and some herbs and frying it in little patties.  Maybe those will give you some ideas to try.

I made a wonderful white bean chili for lunch.
Used 1 C cooked navy beans and added sauteed onions and garlic. Added organic vegetable broth to get correct consistency along with cilantro, cumin and chili powder. At lunch I heated it up and topped with cubed cheddar cheese.


SWAMId  Gatherer then Nomad then Gatherer. Currently 40% Nomad - Again.

I'm eating truckloads of green beans and zucchinis as they are in season here. Herbs - my homegrown parsley is also plentiful at the moment. Lots of lovely organic Australian cheddar cheese. Cows are pasture fed all year round in Australia so all Australian dairy is exceptionally good. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am about the status of cheddar for nomads.

I eat lamb until it is running out of my ears.

I have eliminated my beloved feta without so much as a backward glance. This is inexplicable to me....well, I'm being a bit disengenuous here considering how much cheddar I've re-introduced into my life; most wheat including spelt, and salad tomatoes are smoke, although I use  the occasional tomato in my lamb curries (well, I live with a gatherer, and so something had to give).

I have also happily eliminated all soya products and green/brown lentils. All in all, I'm a contented and energetic nomad.

I think what has made the main difference in/for me stems from the elimination of spelt and rye and the cutting down by 70% of other wheat. I now eat rice mountain bread (as thin as crepes) which contain 70% rice, wheat and water. And as usual I scoff down my main grain which is the incomparable basmati rice.

As long as I have the occasional tomato cooked into stews, curries, sauces etc. I'll not be 100% compliant but I do feel as if the diet is bespoke (notwithstanding the small amount of wheat and the tomatoes).

One thing I love about the Nomad diet is that Jarlsberg cheese is a diamond food. Sam's warehouse club has it for $4.35 a pound which is a steal compared to the prices of the other gourmet cheeses. You do have to buy 2.25 pound blocks but that isn't a problem. They also have Manchego but it cost twice as much, can't really justify it when Jarlsberg is so good. Just realized tonight that I'm getting slack on eating nuts, have to go buy more almonds and fruit tomorrow plus what ever "diamonds in the rough" I find. Mushroom/Jarlsberg/omelettes again maybe.

I'm mostly eating zucchinis, broccoli, green peas and rappini ... and every few days brussels, and/or carrots, beets, rutabaga and sweet potato with lambsmeat, veal, turkey or beef; sometimes with cauliflower and/or eggplant ... I also eat fish/basmati few times per week with vegetables ... navy beans/basmati and veggies ...  eggs 2-3x per week ...  oh and cabbage every so often ... onions and garlic r part of my daily meals and so is Olive oil ... and also butter a couple times week on spelt or millet toast ... and I must say that, I eat alot of fruits on a daily basis as well ... keep sharing everybody ...Cheers

A few of my favorite dishes r:

- Sweet potato with either lambs meat, 2 eggs or turkey with broccoli, lots of onion and garlic and paprika/turmeric spice mix.

- Turkey breast, basmati rice, onion, garlic, zucchini, red beet, EVOO and curry.

- Turkey breast, rutabaga, asparagus, eggplant, carrot, turmeric/paprika spice mix, EVOO.

- Chinook salmon, rutabaga, rappini, EVOO, cayenne pepper.

- Millet, 2 eggs, eggplant, NYF, EVOO.

- Veal, basmati rice, carrot and cauliflower, garlic, onion and curry spice mix.

-  Navybeans, sweet potato, brussel sprouts, EVOO, garlic, cayenne pepper.

I also love manna bread with almond butter and molasses; taste's just like dessert  

or Spelt raisin bread with cultured butter and a little seasalt sprinkled over it !!

The original recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
Since I am a GT3 Teacher, I am to avoid cream of tartar which is in baking powder.  So I discovered that I can use 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (substitute for the cream of tartar) and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.  The baked items turn out just as good as if I was using baking powder.

My faves are:

-Broccoli stir-fry with mashroom, onions, ginger and garlic
-Roasted cauliflower in the oven with some olive oil and sea salt (350 for 15-20 min, till lightly browned)
-Lamb curry (onions, turmeric, coriander, cumin, onions, garlic, ginger, little bit of yogurt)
-Turkey or rabbit nuggets (small pieces of meat dipped first in egg and then in some almond flour-pan fried on both sides- Yuum)
-Cod or Halibut, or any complaint white fish baked in the oven with a homade curry sauce
-Bolied rutabagas pureed with some ghee or EVOO and some salt.
-for snacks: almond bread, or Macademia Butter eaten by the spoonss (sometimes too many), grapefruit, apples
-eggs for breakfast with homemade lamb burgers, leftover veggies-asparagus, broccli, etc)

I like to keep some tins of sardines handy for when I am really hungry and have little time to cook. Yesterday, my daughter and I had some errands to run and when I got home was famished. I just grabbed the can of sardines and had a rice cake. That saved me from devouring something I know is not good for me (of course, not too much of that is left in my kitchen). Wal-Mart has sardines for $.50 a can packed in spring water.

Well they had a great sell on leg of lamb today. $2.99 per pound for a half that was big enough to be mutton and $1.99 a pound for a 2 pound roast that looked like the big  end of a leg. Just right for the crockpot. Also got some split peas, canned carrot, canned beets, sardines in olive oil(a bit pricey), goat cheese, and neuchaftel cheese, cage free eggs.

There are some foods that I was not eating before the GTD, and I'm enjoying them a lot:

Manchego
Cheese!  
split Sheldon's Turkey Breasts, baked in my toaster oven.  I rub with ghee, and sprinkle with paprika, onion and garlic powder and Himalayan crystal salt.
Eden foods canned Great Northern Beans!  My lastest "fast food".    Well heated, with maybe some fresh red onion sauteed in ghee, some fresh parsley, and sprinkled with grated manchego.
Wild Planet brand canned Minimal Mercury Albacore Tuna.
Oat Bran, cooked as a hot breakfast cereal.
Coconut oil, organic, extra virgin!  I like a tsp. every day on my baked sweet potato.  
Dried Turkish Apricots as a snack, with walnuts or soft boiled eggs.

I have been BTDing long enough that I won't eat trash though which can make me seem picky to non BTD people. Other than avoids, I will confess to 2 dislikes, lima beans and rhutabagas. Of course I was raised not to be picky, if it wasn't in the garden, the grass fed beef in the freezer, of the staples Mom picked up at the PigglyWiggly you weren't getting it. Sis was the baby and got cut some slack but it was still a choice of what was in the house.

My other son is an O.  He's not as picky as my B son. My O son actually likes vegetables.  It must be an individual thing...
My sisters kids are worse at being picky.  Unless it just runs in the family..

The Nomad diet is very easy to follow, in my opinion.  My B daughter, who is a Gatherer had such a hard time following her genotype diet, she has gone back to eating as a B non-secretor.

are nomads who believe they are gluten intolerant eating any form of oats?  I have been eating one kind of oat bran and then switched to another and had an upset stomach, and now that I switched back my sotmach is still irritated and its the only thing I've done differently, so I'm wondering if it's the culprit.  Knowing nomads can be gluten intolerant and are supposed to be avoiding gluten to repair the digestive track, I was surprised to begin with that it was on the list.

Oats ,by themselves, are glutein free. However they are often processed on the same equipment that wheat and other glutein containing grains are and some relatively minor(as long as you are not celiac) contamination creeps in. Personally regular oatmeal doesn't bother me but I have some glutein tolerance as long as I don't overdo it.

Gluten appears to have been a major contributor to my decades-long irritable bowels, and when I eliminated gluten grains, the benefits were impressive.  I love hot oat bran cereal, but seem to get low blood sugar within a couple of hours.  If I try adding some protein, such as eggs, I'll get heartburn.  I don't think either of those are gluten issues, but I could be wrong about it.

Tonight,  I ate brown rice spaghettis with 2 eggs, spinach, lots of onions, a tablespoon of EVOO, a tablespoon of NYF ... topped with lots of parsley ... it was so incredibly delicious !! Yum yum
