I must admit I was not too thrilled when I found out I was a gatherer and not a nomad...the food list wasn't as appealing and more than half of the foods are unfamiliar to me...with that said I have now fully accepted my genotype but feel like I will have to live off the same few foods repetitively and can see myself getting sick of them
So I was wondering if anyone has any yummy ideas..and what people find themselves eating each day...I've noticed some of you are much more creative than me so maybe this will help give me a little variety
Today I had eggs with spinach for breakfast, scrambled in ghee with a bit of garlic, yum. Lunch was homemade daal made with yellow split peas, garlic, spices. Had this with some oatcakes and lettuce to scoop it up with Tonight was organic oak smoked haddock with a mixed salad, followed by raspberries, ricotta and agave syrup.
Snacks were peaches, dried apricots, almonds and pecans.
I posted the recipes for the daal and Brighid posted the recipe for the oatcakes LL

So far, had turkey sausage with eggs and fresh chopped parsley this morning for breakfast, and salmon salad on spring greens for lunch. We'll have leftover-potroast beef stew for dinner tonight, with fresh steamed green beans for me and leftover mashed potatoes for my housemate K to ladle the stew over.
I also made a batch of paneer and cooked up some basmati rice to use through the week. Baked some millet-flaxseed-oat flour raspberry muffins last night, with lots of frozen no-sugar raspberries in the batter--pretty good just plain, no ghee or jam! I also made trail mix from roasted almonds and walnuts, hulled roasted pumpkin seeds, chopped dried apricots and bittersweet chocolate chips. The trail mix will go with me to work tomorrow, might take a muffin too.

I had a slice of a leg of lamb roast served with turnip greens and olive oil and I took a capsule of turmeric.
For lunch in a few minutes I will either have a spinach, parsley, artichoke, fennel, green pepper, minced kohlorabi and salmon salad served with lemon juice, olive oil and ground red pepper. Or 2-3 sardine nori wraps with olive oil and ground red pepper, and maybe some minced kohlorabi. I will take another capsule of turmeric.

I modified the recipe to use 1 1/2 cups oat flour, 1 1/4 cups millet flour, and 1/4 cup ground flaxseed. I used light olive oil in place of the grapeseed oil and replaced the agave with carob molasses (mainly because that was what I had on hand), and added an egg. I also folded in 2 cups of frozen no-sugar raspberries. You could also use chopped cranberries or currants, or a mix of all three. This makes a muffin that is not very sweet and allows the luscious tartness of the raspberries to come out, along with the natural nutty taste of the grains.

Applegate Farms is a good national US brand from what I've heard. I buy my sausage from a local supplier--a turkey farm that raises antibiotic and hormone-free birds. You can even tour the farm if you want to. Their sausage is fantastic. I buy the salt-free kind.
You can make free-form sausage patties from ground turkey if you can't find any sold in casings. Just add some chopped sauteed onions, peppers, shallots, garlic, and spices of choice to the ground turkey, shape into patties and fry up for a quick meal. Good with greens and eggs!

Today so far I've had fresh red grapefruit halves, tiny amounts of Swedish Lingonberry soda, plain club soda, white tea w/brown sugar (the brown sugar was well meant, not my doing) and a bite of Swiss milk chocolate. The chocolate less than a stellar idea. Did I mention I've had an intestinal flu for +/- 5 days? I want to eat, try my new foods & supps, but body says not yet. The red grapefruit is the only solid food that doesn't bother me right now. I wonder if I should try making some garlic onion beef broth? Too tired & queasy. On the other hand, it's a gorgeous winter day out, and BeeJay the blue jay came in, all wet & cold toesies, for a brief Mommy-heartening visit. My little monster, the Beejmeister. Sigh.

I say stick with the grapefruit, if that's what is doing okay. Make sure you stay hydrated and just rest. *hug* Enjoy the snow! We have nothing but rain The Swedish lingonberry soda sounds good! Where did you get it?

I had eggs scrambled in ghee with cinnamon date manna bread and almond butter for breakfast along with some fresh grapefruit juice. For lunch I had leftover veal meatballs browned in EVOO with sauteed onions, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, spinach, tomatoes with just a hint of feta cheese. I also had some acai green tea when I got to work and to sip on during the day. For dinner, I'll either have the rest of the above or maybe some tuna. Jane
today I've had: oatmeal with 1 dried apricot, chopped, tbs of dried currants, tsp butter, tsp of molasses, tsp of honey, cinnamon, T. of pecans, plus yerba mate (my bulk "mate latte") and lunch was a one egg omelet with spinach, mushrooms, and sheep cheese (iffy)!!! so far, so good.

The soda I got at the new Whole Foods in Cranston. Providence is such a pain in the youknowwhat to drive thru lately, so even tho it has 2 WFs, I don't go there if I don't have to. I was feeling well enough, for a moment, to risk a more-than 5 minutes from the house trip. Got cabin fever. Apparently, some of the people Mr. OS works with have gotten rip-roaring sick in capital letters. We're wondering if we even got the same thing. If we did get the same thing, I think it's our genetic leanings and better diets, despite the cheating, that got us off with lighter sentences. Either way, it sucks. On the brighter side, I'm hoping for a little weight loss. Thanks for the cyber hug. It's safer than a real one right now, lol.
