So I am just getting started on BTD and reading through ER4YT I see that type O's must avoid mayonnaise. Then a few pages later on the suggested meals there is chicken salad with mayonnaise! What's up with that

Most commercial mayonnaise contains at least one "avoid" ingredient. It's not too hard to make your own from scratch, using all compliant ingredients. You also may be able to find a compliant mayo in a health food store. I believe I've seen mayo in Whole Foods made from canola oil (instead of soybean) and apple cider vinegar (in place of white vinegar) and that product would  be OK for O secretors. I see that you're in Australia, so you probably can't find the particular product I mentioned, but you may find something similar.

Definitely, Big Al -- making your own is easy and it tastes SO much better than anything you can buy that there is no comparison.

Make sure all the ingredients are room temperature before you attempt to blend. Had many epic fails of trying to make our own mayo until we learned that trick.

Part of it, also, is that some households make use of mayo in far larger quantities than others.
At my house, it can take more than a year to finish a jar of mayonnaise, so if ingredient number 10 is an Avoid, I've used something like a gram of it per month on average? And if I'm not the only one who's used it, then my Avoid-exposure is even less.

If I expected to use a cup of mayonnaise every week, I'd be making my own on a regular basis.
But that ain't gonna happen, so I can go with store-bought for the very occasional smear...

Thanks for the tip. I am not a big mayo user but I am going to take a try at home made because I think I have been avoiding it on a poor ingredients basis. If I make my own and like it I will probably become more of a fan.

I don't notice any problem if it is only a very small amount.

Well I am about to find out I suppose. I intend to start small and see how it goes. I would be convenient for me if EVOO works but now I suppose I can't bet the bank on it. I have developed a real inclination for home processing and am seeking targets to try it out on.

Be very careful with homemade mayonnaise that you use it up right away. It doesn't keep like store-bought. I gave myself nasty food poisoning eating too-old homemade mayo..

Good advice!
This is one of the reasons that those who don't use a LOT of mayonnaise don't make it all that often. Especially if you factor in the amount of work and cleanup for that occasional smear.
For me, homemade mayo has been a special treat.
If I'm making some special dish that highlights the mayo (or aioli, for instance) then homemade is definitely called for...and delicious!
