I want to form a rebuttal to this article:
http://blog.thezeitgeistmoveme.....ent+Official+Blog%29

I plan on talking about the damage of plant lectins and the cholesterol myth. Can the knowledgable Eat Right Community help come up with more reasons why animals are necessary in our diets?

I grew increasingly frustrated while reading this because the author is so close to so much of what I believe to be reasonable and true, yet is waging war so far from the real battlefield- excess.

Plus, this red flag sets the stage for the sort of speculation found interspersed throughout otherwise compelling arguments:

"I think there is insurmountable evidence that leads to the conclusion that humanity must move towards a more plant-based, whole foods, vegan diet."

His view is hardly insurmountable, and he repeatedly relies on conversational counterpoints to illustrate opposition.

While a respectable amount of research evidence has been employed to support his view,  apparently a lot has been jettisoned as well.  I find it very hard to believe that Dr. D's work has gone completely unnoticed by this or any other author who wishes to  promote a humanitarian cause while ignoring human reality.

I am taking this to the extreme edge. Such a principle - turning a blind eye to certain basic needs of human beings - suffices to put the word "humanitarian" above between inverted commas. Such a principle was practiced by several regimes during the 20th century with catasrophic results to Mankind. A fifth Freedom should be added: the freedom to be healthy.

As things stand right now, most people turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to a vital info. Just as I did, when I first read ER4YT - the book that eventually saved my life and gave me another opportunity.

Over time I've come to the conclusion that it is not so much education, nor is it fighting this battle or that. Rather, it is more aligned to a belief system and  therefore more comparable to politics or religion.

If someone wants to believe that veganism is right for them that is fine, for it may well be. Whether it is right for his neighbor is no more than any sales pitch. Whether it is right for a nation or a people is not a matter of morals nor principal and never will be.

I disagree. It's either true that more than half of Mankind's health is dependent on eating meat, or it isn't. This is not a matter of belief, but of a physical reality.

You can never know when by clamming up / abstaining from spreading the word you endanger your fellows.

Respectfully disagree. For them it is a belief system.

While health may be the underlying issue and the eventual point of refutation it needs to be done through normal channels to be effective. Playing the opponent on their turf with their rules is rarely profitable.

Think outside the box. Your best defense is not validating the opponent by visiting his field and playing by his rules. Use instead what is available to strengthen your position within the frameworks that best achieve your goal.

People like this person or whatever group it comes from.. They are of one mind set and will hardley be dissauaged.

I wait until such a person is sick and then talk again.  I will not waste my time.  They will not be persuaded.

The best you can offer is a link to Lola's thread with over 500 entires on how we feel.  -- at the very least, those entries are from real live humans.

Yet 500 is nothing compared to their 'links' or 'research'.  Anyone can do research and make the numbers come out his way.

His second paragraph admitts that he is not recomending any of it for better health.. what a way to start a 'convincing' discussion.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
