Most people on BTD don't really need to worry about acid/alkaline balance. When we eat the foods Dr D recommends, roughly following the portion sizes (which means lots of veggies), acid/alkaline balance usually occurs without any special focus on it.
Some of the "highly acidic foods" are avoids for Os, while others (such as red meat) are beneficial for us. Dr D's diets are much more complex than just focusing on acid balance in the body. When we eat the foods we should, things fall into balance. Bear in mind that you can eat all "the right foods" but in the wrong proportions (too much meat and too few greens, for example) and remain out of balance.
Some individuals find the need to add alkalizing supplements, but most individuals don't.
