I know we are to avoid all vegetable gums.  I will not go anywhere near Xanthan gum because it is made from GMO corn.

HOWEVER: We have recently discovered Beanitos chips (black, pinto or white) which are beans, rice, sunflower or safflower oil, guar gum and sea salt.  Before ER I was a potato chip junky and haven't had even one potato chip for 5 1/2 years.  I've have been longing for a slightly salty crunchy snack.  I absolutely love these chips!

HOWEVER, part 2:  When I eat more than 2 servings per week (which is hard not to do) I gain weight.  And lately I've been having more systemic aches and pains than usual.

My diet has not changed in any other way.

Question:  Is the guar gum really that bad?  And if so, can anyone tell me how and why other than the generic statement on the Type Base page?

As an A non locust bean gum is probably okay for you.

On the Beanitos: As an A non Safflower oil is not rated very well for you.

From your report of reactions, it sounds to me like beanitos might be a product you could use every once in a while (perhaps at an event where other people think you should have chips), but would be best for you not to eat regularly.

(I do realize that I did not answer the question how bad guar gum is.)

C-S.....thanks for replying.  I fear that others will also tell me to back off of the Beanitos and eat them seldom if ever.  Probably my first clue on this is that I really crave them - and that should be a warning for me.

We have gone to a local Mexican restaurant twice with friends this past month (we almost never eat out!) and I took my own white beanitos so I could eat chips and their delicious dips while the others were eating GMO corn chips.

(I just bought 2 full cases of Beanitos on sale from my food buying club - but fortunately I know a lot of people who also love them and will buy most of them from me..........)

I still would like to know why guar gum is bad, though.

Thank you Lola.  I sort of suspected that my increased aches and pains might be due to eating so many Beanitos with the guar gum, not to mention the weight gain. I was just hoping I might be wrong.

In all the years I've been on the BT Diet this is the first time I've eaten any quantity of any avoid.  I've even been extremely careful not to eat very much of anything which is an avoid for secretors but is neutral for us nonnies!

I've always said, "There is nothing in this world that can taste good enough to make it worth while taking a chance of going back to being in constant pain and half way dead."  ......Until I tried Beanitos......

Now I feel like all the other people who have to fight to stay on track.  I guess that makes me a bit more human.

I once gave a try for health issues- they claimed here in CH-land that it would help for better digestion and so on but nothing but gasy cramps and bad feelings were the results... and even the one who recommended it to me (a B-nonnie therapist) was astonished about my reaction... fffttt... = explorer-like....

Or maybe her body is simply craving more of those beans in any form! If my super duper beans didn't make my stomach hurt so bad I could soon get "addicted" to them!! The pain is a lot less than it has been in the past, but I still have a ways to go. I ain't giving up, though!   The few times I've eaten them and they didn't make my stomach hurt for three days, I was totally euphoric!!

Lola,
I wish I knew how to make the chips without the gum in them!  Believe me, I'd do it. I'm more than willing to "do the work" as your signature line says.

A quick search led me to one recipe which requires a dehydrator.  I have a friend who owns one so might ask her if I can "rent" it for a day. It's worth a try.

Tonight we went back to our old standby: cooked black beans and rice topped with homemade guacamole.  Still really good, but not the crispy crunch of the "bad" chips.

And I shall not order any more Beanitos for our personal consumption.
