I have a question:

So far I have helped quite a few people fill out a SWAMI xpress diet plan.  I have had 9 clients do a secretor test.  So far 7 of the 9 have come back NON-secretors!

I thought it was rare for people to be non-secretors?  What are the chances that these secretor tests are producing invalid results?

It just seems strange and a bit fishy that so many people have come back non-secretors.  Please help if you have any information.  These tests aren't cheap!

I thought the statistic was the opposite, that 80-85% of individuals are supposed to be secretors and only 15-20% are non-secretors?

I am talking about Dr D s patient population, NOT the world population

hope this is more clear now

You can test in a different way if you want to confirm (Lewis, genetic screening, ...).

Or have someone try both diets. It is very clear that the nonsecretor diet is the correct one when I compare eating foods that differ in rating between secretor and nonsecretor.

Most likely way to get a false nonsecretor result is to test for the wrong blood type.  Be sure blood type is correct before testing secretor status.

If using a saliva test, be sure you are testing saliva and not other liquids in mouth (from drinking ...).

Delays in shipping and extremes in temperature (hot of cold) might affect results. I do not know how sensitive the test is to the handling of the sample prior to analysis.

I wonder how one can find out about the sensitivity of sample prior to analysis.  I've always made sure to send my samples on a Monday or Tuesday so that they get to the east coast during that specific work week.

I was told by one of the customer service women to put the samples in the fridge until I was ready to send them through fedex.  If cold temperatures have the possibly of creating a false negative report, shouldn't there be some kind of warning?

I live in Hawaii and I do wonder if the temperature has anything to do with a possible invalid reading.  I'm not sure how the sample is handled in transit, but I do know that it takes 2 days fedex to get to the east coast.

I do not think two days should be a problem.

Refrigeration should not be a problem (and is a good idea for sample storage).

Heat is generally more of a problem than cold, but some biochemical samples are destroyed by freezing.

I have always had the same questions & my samples travel almost a week to get from Aust to US for saliva or UK for lewis & would have experienced both cold & hot conditions
I wonder if the sample was not viable the lab could tell or would it come back as nonnie?? But no one has really had the answer for me.

Within the medical community the ignorance re secretor status significance still reigns, so it is very likely that most people who seek help "out of box", having realized that allopathic medicine has no abiding cure to offer them, would be non-secretors, as naturally they are quicker to get sick.

My results came back as well as for hubby. Both non-secretors. I had a feeling we were both secretors.

80% of the people in the world are secretors. Secretors in general have it easier- they're less likely to experience random weird health ailments, and are more likely to  have satisfactory results from the "book diets" without need for refinement.

Healthy secretors don't seek out help with fine-tuning their diets.

Most of the people who have chronic health ailments are nonnies. Not all, but most. So, most of the people who seek help from Dr D or another natural health provider are likely to be nonnies.

I appreciate all your responses.

ruthiegirl, I understand the message of what you are trying to convey.  I'm not sure I can apply the portion about clients really "seeking" me out because they have chronic ailments yet.  Then again, that could be just my perception because many do end up having ailments.  I thank you for giving me this side to think about.
But my scientific brain does not want to just accept your explanation and wants to see the proof behind it.  You say 80% of Dr. D's clients are non-secretors,   where did the statistic come from that 80% of the world are secretors?  How many people (in the world) were tested, and in what part of the world to come up with that number?  Your explanation is comforting....to a certain degree.

I'm just always shocked when another non-secretor status comes back.  It does make a pretty big difference in regard to the SWAMI outcome, especially in my type A clients who are generally not supposed to eat much meat.  I do thank you for your response.

In most populations, nearly 80 percent of people are secretors.

That does not say where the statistic comes from, but rather shows that it is widely accepted. You would need to check the references to find the data source.

Great to know, thanks!  I had wondered if this was the case when I started feeling surrounded by "nonnies" on the forums and FB pages.  It makes sense, though!

The majority of people I help turn out to be non secret ors and they also respond the best to the diet. I am a secretor and I have been tested twice, both tests indicated non secretor.

When I am helping someone who is a secretor it always takes longer.

so for non secretor read sensitive and therefore more likely to seek you out.

PC, this doesn't make sense.

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

It's my impression that, while 20% of people are non-secretors,
80% of those who present in Doctors' offices are non-secretors.

I think he meant to say "I am a non secretor and I've been tested twice." Looks like a typo to me.

Most of the people who have chronic health ailments are nonnies. Not all, but most.

This can't be true, she said respectfully.
When we look at the American population, we see that "chronic health ailments" are more the norm than not. Americans take prescription drugs versus hypertension, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, angina and arrhythmias, you name it...far surpassing the 15-20% nonnie minority numbers.
I don't blame Hassanna for having a problem with the post, doubting its veracity.

I think the SWAMI percentages must lean heavily towards us non-secretors too.  I’m a nonnie Explorer who felt she needed SWAMI because Explorer wasn’t working for me like BTD was.  My son is a secretor and the Nomad diet fit him well so no need to spend the extra money on a SWAMI.
