I've been noticing people mentioning foods, not supplements, that are cleansing such as:
okra for your intestines lemon water for your liver ginger for your liver
I was wondering if there are other foods that cleanse and if they are BT and GT specific or are they good for everyone.

Hi Kitari, No matter what the food, it still needs to be screened through the question of if it is suitable for your own bloodtype/genotype. |

Yes, but as an example lemon which is ok for O/A/AB on BTD....is it also "cleansing" for all types. |

the cleansing effect of food and other components have all been factored into the guidelines, be it BT or GT or a combination of both, like in a swami

For me personally, if I feel a need to "cleanse" my body, I make a fresh salad. The raw food seems to have this effect on me. |

Kitara, I understand what you mean about certain foods seem to do better at helping different parts of the body. I only recently heard about Okra being particularly good if you've had candida issues. Like Adam, I tend to eat more salad/veg when I want to cleanse (and of course using the food list for my type). It would be nice if there was a list of what is good for each of the various organs/intestines. If Beets are good for you, you might find this info interesting. Beets: 1) Beet juice is alkaline and helps stave off acidosis, a harbinger of all diseases. (2) Beet juice helps stimulate liver cells and cleanse and protect bile ducts. It also helps relieve the kidneys of stress to help cure gout. It also helps relieve constipation. (3) Beets help cleanse the blood and create more red blood cells. They are useful for treating and curing anemia. Heavy daily beet consumption has even been used to treat leukemia and other cancers. With normal consumption, one can benefit from beets' anti-carcinogenic properties. (4) Red beets and their leaves are a high source of folate, which is the natural base of folic acid. Folate helps build tissue and red blood cells. Folic acid from folate is more beneficial for pregnant women than folic acid synthetically derived. It is healthier long term to depend on folate rather than to use folic acid supplements. Unfortunately, the two terms are misused interchangeably. (5) Beets contain lots of lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which help prevent or even cure macular degeneration and other age related eye issues. (6) Beets are a high source of phytonutrients called betalains. Beet betalains provide strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxification support. (7) Beets help lower blood pressure, maintain blood vessel elasticity, and even help eliminate varicose veins. ( Beets are high in fiber, potassium, magnesium, niacin, calcium, iron, and biotin. Caveats --Beets can be so detoxifying that if you are in a toxic condition you may experience Herxheimer events (healing crisis) such as headaches and fatigue. Red coloring in the stool or urine is not uncommon after consuming beets. It's no big deal, though some say it might indicate a bit of anemia. |

Lin, Normally I can't stand beets, but all that info is making me go out and get some now. I could use many of the things described there. I'll have to search out a recipe and figure out a way to get them down. |

Adam, You can do many things with beets, eating them whole (cooked), grating them raw in a salad or cooking them lightly in a stir fry, or cooking and grinding them up to use as a vegetable in a sauce... |

Lin,
That is the most information I've ever read concerning beets. I have one organic beet from WF in the frig and will figure a way to eat it. I've also used them mainly in salads.
Thanks.

I'm going to try shredded beets, shredded carrot, a little maple syryp, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, possibly a couple other things. I think this might work and I can start introducing beets (a diamond) into my diet. First quinoa, now beets. I'm growing as a SWAMI person. Happy cleansing, everyone. Edit: <---- Just noticed it says 'expansion'. How true. |

Kitara, (3) Beets help cleanse the blood and create more red blood cells. They are useful for treating and curing anemia.
What you said above really got my attention, so I googled 'anemia' and found:
Quoted Text
Symptoms common to many types of anemia include the following:
Easy fatigue and loss of energy Unusually rapid heart beat, particularly with exercise Shortness of breath and headache, particularly with exercise Difficulty concentrating Dizziness Pale skin Leg cramps Insomnia
I have all of the above symptoms. But, things are improving as I stick with my SWAMI. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/understanding-anemia-symptoms |

I just made a wonderful veggie juice from celery, carrots, cilantro, baby kale, beet and ginger. A great cleansing juice and delicious too! I don't particularly enjoy cooking the big, mature beets. My favorite, when I can find them, is the finger shaped beets - especially the young, tender ones. My second favorite is the round baby beets. Either kind, I cook whole, in their skins, until tender. Then I slice off the end and slip the skin off under running water. These can be sliced or chopped, added to salad or other cooked vegetables or served 'as is' with a little drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. |

Who knew the various ways that beets can be prepared?
I just found a site called "Cooking with Michele" and did a search for Cooking with Michele/beet chips.
It is fairly simple (just a few steps but you may need to invest in a silicon baking sheet (I don't have one but I would get one just to make these chips.
She also has a recipe for beet puree. Any avoids in the recipe I'm sure you can find substitutes or just leave it out. Like salt (supposedly the beet chips taste the same with or without salt).

So glad all of you liked the beets too and those of you that haven't tried hope you enjoy them as I do. It was suggested to me by the Acunpuncturist I go to for my Gall Bladder and Liver, and my husband loves them too. I usually try to get the small ones as they are easier to cook, and boil or steam them. But reading your posts shows I ought to try a few other ways of eating them.
Good information Adam, yes I need help with red blood cells too, for a while mine had dropped below minimum of range but last lab showed they were up in the range.

Thanks for the info about the beets.
I was reading that garlc, onions, and eggs have sulfuric compounds that help your body produce glutathione that helps get out heavy metals and arsenic.
and that the stuff in lemons is limonoids that activate detoxifying enzymes.
Lola what exactly are online protocols? |

A lot of people empty capsules of important supplements into liquids or just onto the tongue. |

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to eat to cleanse the body after surgery? I am specifically searching for something to aid in releasing the after effects from general anesthesia. I know the Dr. will want to give me antibiotics for a short time...I will take my probiotics far away from the anti...but I hate the idea of the anesthesia circulating around inside of me. I already take NAP Polyvite, and Phytocal for A blood along with Proberry and quercetin. |
