helping someone (O) deal with arthritic gout type symptoms: have been following the Arthritis Dadamo book to a large extent but with limited success, until suddenly we found an article on line called How to Relieve Gout Pain at Home on symptomFind.com; the reintroduction of coffee in our case appears to be helpful in contradiction with Blood Type Diet suggestions. Any comment anyone? |

I have been assisting this O type person to adjust his diet for about 4 months now.....eliminated potatoes, substituted spelt for wholewheat, added green tea, eliminated coffee, added cherry concentrate, meat and vegetable intake is excellent anyway, ie following the Arthritis book as much as possible, but the gout got so bad he was crying in his sleep and having leg twitch nightmares. But a few days ago since he found the coffee suggestion from another source online, he is out of pain almost completely. I can't argue with that despite not wanting to break the Eat Right suggestions. I will continue to monitor in case another explanation comes up. Please continue to give me your feed back. |

Makes no sense but shows we are all individuals eh? So glad he is not in pain anymore - for it to be registering in his sleep & making a guy cry, it sure must have hurt? I can't tolerate cherry btw... |

Jenny,
The arthritis protocol needs to be taken with a bit of caution. Yes, gout (high uric acid related arthritis) is also one type of arthritis but it is heavily genetic (they have identified nine genes related to this!). Since I am also one sufferer of this problem and my experience tells me that this arthritis is least understood and trying to treat this one like other arthritis does not work in the long run! I have yet to have a full and successful handle on it, but my research so far shows that the proportion of copper and iron in the blood needs to be increased to reduce production of uric acid. For this, you either increase Cu intake vis-a-vis iron or reduce iron intake vis-a-vis cu. The daily iron recommended is 18 gm and cu less than one gram. Alternapedia suggests 2 gm of cu intake daily or periodic blood donation to control the uric acid level in the blood. |

I have read that low levels of iodine influence gout. Perhaps you all already know this, but thought I would contribute. |

Coffee isn't good for most Os. It clearly works well for that individual O. Some foods act like "medicine" in some blood types, and can make the body "out of balance" when consumed regularly. However, if you're already out of balance, sometimes that food (that's otherwise an "avoid") nudges the unhealthy body back into balance. My guess is that this is what's happening for your friend with gout.
I don't know enough about the science of gout or what specifically coffee does in the body to guess at the biochemistry beyond the general concepts.
I'd suggest he keep up with the general BTD except for adding in the coffee.
Also, double-check his blood type. If he got worse on the BTD, maybe he's been following the wrong one? |
