How much do O's really need?  I wonder if I could decrease my fat intake to see a difference in my weight and overall health.
Perhaps, too many nuts are doing it.


Other than nuts, I really do not eat alot of fat, at all.

Ordinarily Hunters are only allowed 3-7 vegetable protein servings a week.

Some of those servings should probably be beans or bean flours.

A serving of nuts is only half a cup.

If using SWAMI, use its frequency and portion size indication.

If following blood type diet, you should be eating between 2 and 5 handfuls of nuts per week.

Gotcha. Thanks. I think I was eating about a handful per day, at least.

Hmm... I need to find something else to eat. I am running out of choices lately.

I need LOTS of fat but not lots of nuts. They tend to make me ravenous especially early in the day. I use about a TBSP oil on salads and about a TBS of mayo to dip veggies in 3 times a day. I end most meals with a piece of celery and nut butter or tahini or 3 or 4 nuts. SWAMIs portions for carbs and fat are WAY off for me. I tend to use SWAMI as more of a list of avoids as time has shown, it's not spot on for me, though I do love having it

There's fat in my proteins and it's probably more like 2T of mayo so that's about 9T fat a day plus protein and nut fats. SWAMI gives me 7T a WEEK! I'd die. Fat is the only place I can get my calories if I'm low carb and moderate protein. I actually loose weight with fat, if I don't eat enough, I gain. Some days are fattier than others too

Lately, I am craving more fat.  Do you have ghee?

Sorry, one last question, are you just eating fish and beef or do you poultry for your protein?

Swami tells me I need a ton of fat like 3 times the amount I am getting right now, but I cant do that, I dont think.

I bet I will lose weight once I increase my fat.

Weird, but guess that is just how it is.

I do have ghee occasionally. I don't do alot of added saturated fat though, just mostly from my proteins. I eat mostly fish but I do red meat too, just not as often. My clients gave me a bunch of venison and elk steaks and I prefer that over beef.Game meat seems to sit much better. Lamb over beef too. I do love Applegate farms organic beef hot dogs and that is my main beef, or their organic deli roast beef. I do organic turkey as we stocked up at thanksgiving but chicken is not my friend so only occasionally. It doesn't make me feel bad but I gain weight which tells me it's inflammatory internally.
Simplified mayo, 1 raw egg, blend until fluffy, 1/4 tsp salt and 1 cup olive oil (not all extra virgin or it's bitter) so it's usually 1/3 cup pure olive, 1/3 garlic extra virgin then macadamia or sesame to finish. I like to vary my fats. I put some garlic or dill in it but my husband uses shiracha or jalepenos. IF I do nightshades it will be the spicy peppers, not the bell. Bigger bang for flavor.

Umm...kind of over this winter here in WI. Totally moving to Southern CA when I am done with school, maybe San Diego

UW is amazing, though. Excellent program.

Fat content of brain is about 60%.

You need adequate fat to think well and process information. As a student, I think if you are significantly below Dr. D.'s guidelines, you might want to consider supplementing with healthy fats.

Perhaps fish oil.

Majorie,
You solved your own issue in your question.

Your body stores fat, because you arent giving your body enough fat. Healthy fat should be included in EVERY meal of the day. If you have 4-5 small meals per day, 15 grams of fat per meal should do the trick.

You mentioned peppers, I can't do peppers even though the red ones are listed as a beneficial for O's.  I think it is because I may be sensitive to nightshades, possibly  a genetic thing.

This forum is so interesting as everyone is so different.  The BTD and Swami are majorly helpful but it seems each of us have to do some trial and error to fine tune what we eat.

Not the olive oil, but I have tried cutting out nuts because I read that people with celiac disease can also be sensitive to nuts and beans because of certain genetic stuff.  I do better without a lot of nuts.  I do tolerate the nuts in my blood type in small amounts.

If you get the results you want how will you know if it's both the nuts and olive oil that helped or just one of them?

Are you doing this to feel better or lose weight?

If I exceed the guidelines for nuts and nut butters, it can affect weight.

I am doing it to feel better and i guess ultimately that would entail losing weight but it is not my focal point. i just think i get really puffy when my fat intake from nuts and olive oil is high.

i noticed i did not have any nuts all weekend and felt much better ( just a small doses of olive oil) but then today I had some nuts and felt yucky.

also, i think that smaller portions and eating often might help me with my eating disorder. part of the issue is that i need to have some structure or i rebound and it is not good. so, i guess I should start my structure again... cut up my veggies, bagged my snacks and plan ahead. when i dont plan ahead, the ED kicks in big time and i freak out about what to eat.

Sounds like a plan.  I don't remember what the allotment for olive oil is on the BTD but I don't think it's very much to begin with is it?  I don't use very much, I tend instead to put a smidge of butter on my rice bread with a dash of salt to bring out the buttery flavor.  

I make soups and freeze them in individual servings for a quick snack or start to a meal.  I find soup fills me up without a lot of calories and I get more vegetables into my diet too.  I looked up recipes at first and then just started experimenting with different herbs, spices, and vegetables and I just add water to the consistancy I want.  Sometimes I'll puree all or part of it.  I freeze the portions in glass jars I save from foods I've bought and I'll put a jar in the fridge to thaw so I can use it the next day.  Or if I have some baggies I put the cooled soup portions in the plastic baggies and you don't have to thaw those just tear off the plastic and put the soup in a pan to heat up.  I have a mushroom and herb soup in the fridge thawing out for tomorrow.

i think my swami says 7 tablespoons per week... but i still think i use too much. i might just return the new bottle i bought to see how i feel. it is tempting to have it in my house, same with the nuts. no sense in having it there.

how much meat do you eat typically in one day? just curious.

not sure if you knew this but i have celiac as well.

dairy bothers my stomach too. even butter makes me constipated if i eat use it too often.

I don't know how much meat I eat each day....tonight  I made some soft brown rice biscuits for dinner to go with an herb turkey patty and broccoli.  I cut the biscuit in half and spread about 1/2 a teaspoon of Kerrygold butter on it with a little dash of salt.  The Kerrygold is expensive for my budget but is grass fed with no artificial hormones and has a great butter taste so I use less of it. It doesn't seem to bother me now but there was a time in the past when I was not eating BTD that even butter would send me running to the bathroom.

I buy ground turkey in bulk and mix it with herbs and spices when I get home and freeze them in patties about 3 or 4 ounces each.  I cook them real slow or they tend to dry out or I crumble them up as they cook and add them to soups or other things you would use ground beef for.

The two brown rice products I use the most are 1)Bob's Red Mill organic brown rice flour, it also says  gluten free on the label. 2) Tinkyada brown rice pasta gluten free.  I eat 1/2 to a cup of brown rice stuff most days but we all are so different it may just be something my body happens to like for whatever reason.

I tend not to cook with EVOO or butter.  I just cook slowly in it's own juices or add a little water, broth would be tastier but I've never looked into finding a compliant one. If I use EVOO or butter I add it to the dish on my plate for flavor
and it takes very little when it's used as a seasoning that way.

I'm not a great cook or anything but I've found a way to be compliant and not stress out too much over "what in the world am I going to eat tonight!!" lol, I know that feeling and it's not fun.

I agree with kitari, just cut one out and I would definately start with the nuts. They have a tendency to create a gorge for me if I eat them any time before after dinner. I love them but they create hunger/cravings for more for me. Almonds seem to be the worst. My  husband feels they do the same to him, but lucky him, he doesn't care, he'll just eat more, . Now olive oil, your body needs some oil and I've never heard anyone say it makes them hungry, only that it satisfies.

Just make sure you're not cutting out the fats TOO much. If you're getting adequate fat from meats and eggs, you may do fine with no added oils.  But a completely fat-free diet isn't healthy either. Most people need at least a teaspoonful a day of butter or oil.
