Yes, many people lose weight following this diet, but the diet's main goal is to promote or maintain health. In many cases, the body has to fix what is unhealthy about the body - and may choose to fix this prior to changing the weight. From my experience with Type A, they tend to hold weight longer but do lose gradually, just don't stress over it as stress is one of the things that prompt weight gain in Type A... |

Hi Cienna! I began the BTD for health issues (sinus problems) then went on to the GTD. I went through the 3 month "wash out" to see how different foods affected me. The side benefit was that after that 3 months of being strictly compliant I lost weight very quickly...even more than the maybe 10 extra pounds I wanted to! I have kept it off ..going up and down a few pounds every now and then...for the 2 years I have been on swami. Swami easily keeps me at my healthiest weight. |

Cajun, can you explain what the "3 month wash-out" involved?? Do you mean just eliminating all avoids and black dots?? I cannot wait to get SWAMI as I need to lose a few ´winter pounds´ |

My understanding is that the time frame will be different for everyone, considering not just blood type, but also general health and constitution. I dropped weight very quickly and herxed like mad (detox processing). Probably too fast. My wife (O gatherer) has been loosing weight more evenly, which is probably closer to average.
When I speak to others about ER4YT, I always begin by saying that my fat & calorie intake and exercise level hasn't changed...It's about eating the right foods to reset one's overall health profile. The weight begins normalizing as a result. Just part of the process, albeit an important one for many. (Each blood type has diet and exercise recommendations, but it gets their attention.)

Yes, the "washout" period is avoiding the avoids and black dots for the time. This period is shorter for healthy people and longer for those with health or weight problems. |

thanks ABJoe for the clarification, I guessed that´s what it meant...until I can get SWAMI I´ll just go along with the GTD recommendations...so I´m having delicious diamond lamb kebabs and salad for dinner |

| My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer. |

January 2000 to May 2000 I went from 250lbs to 190lbs and went as low as 174lbs before settling at my ideal weight of 185lbs. |

Rosa, Yes...I did not eat any avoids or black dots.. I was very strict about wheat gluten.. .none! That nearly killed this ex bread addict! My poor DH scrambled around with me to try to find a compliant piece of bread to toast...just to get me a "fix" I tried just about every thing our local health food store sold...it all may as well have been cardboard to me.. So, I asked questions and read others posts on this forum (thank you Christina from Australia for wonderful ideas and Chloe..her almond muffins are easy and good) and they all helped1 Marys gone crackers are wonderful GF thin flax/rice crackers and the recipe base here has some good bread recipes. I pretty much learned how to survive without my morning toast, though...I eat oatmeal, or buckwheat or eggs. |

Wow! I'm guessing that as a hunter, there was a lot of exercise involved? |

I didn't start running until April when the weather was appropriate. I had already lost 30-40 lbs at that point. |

I actually gained weight when I first started BTD. I'd previously been on a low-carb diet, and I went a little crazy with the allowed carbs: fruits, grains, starchy veggies, and beans. I needed to cut back a bit on the carbier foods before my weight stabilized and then started to drop.
I started on BTD about 5 years ago, and have been on SWAMI for about 3. I still need to lose 25-30 pounds. My health has not been great, and I just have too much healing to do before my body is ready to let go of some more of this fat. Also, this is weight I gained while pregnant- I can't tell if this is weight I gained with my first or second pregnancy, as I never quite lost all the pregnancy weight before I conceived again. So I've been carrying around these extra pounds for either 17 or 18+ years, and it's just that much harder for my body to let go of them. If you've gained the weight more recently, it should come off more easily. |
