Hello all A's!

Need a bit of help! I have an A person here who is really long and skinny!

He would like to put on more weight as muscle, so what should he do?
He's mainly working on site or when in the company, it's their canteen lunch food.

Thanks!

Obviously, making the best food choices possible within the scope of what is available is a start, but muscle is built by doing exercise.  Usually it is weight work or other resistance work that builds muscle, as you have to tear the muscle and allow it to rebuild, etc...  Remember though, that some of us are meant to be very slender and no amount of heavy workout is going to make us Atlas...  In fact, doing the wrong exercise can have significant negative effects.

Sometimes, what needs to change is our acceptance of "the way we are".

Eat many beneficials, especially beneficials grains. Most A's gain weight when they eat more grains. If I were him I would also try and see if it's not possible to bring his own lunch instead of eating at the company cafetaria.

The best way to gain weight, at least for me is to add more calories to ones meals. Eating extra servings of nuts, seeds, and high calorie fare such as peanut butter, butter, or ghee to foods. Also adding protein powder to a smoothie. Believe it or not walking up steps can build the thighs and buttocks. Lifting heavy objects or carrying them around can put a little extra muscle tissue on your frame.

Have him follow his diet and get his gut in order. Give it some time and see how it goes.

He may just be an ectomorph and need to accept his body type.

The right exercise for his blood type will help.

Yoga would be best.

Thanks guys!

Kinda what I expected But it is nice to be sure! I'll pass all this good info on and see how it goes for him.

His job is quite physical, so eating more of the right stuff seems to be the key!

You’re lucky if you can get him to listen to you.  My “A” boyfriend is long and lean.  He has good muscles.  He wants to gain weight and in my opinion he eats like c**p.  He has allergies and takes medicine for them rather than avoid eating them or being around them.  SIGH

Eating the right foods, in the right proportions, usually brings people closer to a healthy weight. This means that overweight people lose weight while underweight people gain weight.

The problem many of us have is that the weight we want to be isn't necessarily a healthy weight for our bodies.

My BIL gained 12 lbs by just following his  SWAMI diet.

Took some time--

Yvonne B,
Your A may just have a fast metabolism, and need to eat more.  He would need to figure out his metabolic type and understand how much protein to carbs he needs.

Separately, based on my experience having trouble gaining weight can be due to poor gut health.  I have gained back about 13 lbs but still probably need a few more. I've been on the thin side most of my life, had gained a few pounds by not eating the best in my 40's when I was busy with children.  Being thin/slim doesn't always mean we are healthy

Another clue: As often like acids/enzymes to properly break down what they so eat.

So your friend may not be absorbing all the nutritional value of what he does eat.  This could cause him to not gain weight.
