First, let me thank everyone for all the support and I am trying to keep positive here.
I made it through exams, kind of. One of them, I know I did not do well on at all.
Stress is killing me and I dont have the money to order products right now. I dont even know what to eat anymore.
Today, I was so out of it and gave in to gluten free cookies. I know it could have been worse, but I felt so GUILTY again. I am just tired of trying to think of what to eat to make me feel better. I think the only thing I can do is get some grass fed beef and hope for the best. I am scared of gaining weight, but I dont know what else to do at this point.
I really need to change my perspective on things. I hope the meat can help me to stay focused and not feel so sad, anxious.
And thank you for replying at all. It can be exhausting when I post and "hope" that someone can remind me that I am going to be ok.
This is what happens when you have no family and trying to make your life successful. This phd program may not be the best thing for me. But, I realllyyyyyyy do not want to give up. I feel like I made it here for a reason.
My professor told me that I need to learn how to relax and I come across to my colleagues as "serious" and not warm. Well, how about I am not a "warm" person. He thinks I am an amazing student but I need to work on RELAXING. Well, kind of hard when I stuck here by myself and just getting fatter by the day no matter what I eat.

Whoa.... that felt good to get out
Not sure how I could help, but oh, yah it does feel good to "get it out" and we're all here listening even if we don't really have any answers. Will you have to take that "one" exam again? If so at least the others are out of the way. I'm not in school but have had my share of "exams" in life. I have set goals for the future, but I focus on the "now" and don't look behind to hard. Take those lessons learned and just keep moving ahead, one day, one goal at a time.
I've put some weight back on, I believe it's stress, however I realize my body is doing some healing as well. So perhaps for now my body needs the weight to work on my other issues. I hope that with the decrease of stress I'll loose maybe that will be true for you.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I am sure it will be ok. I need to just focus on one thing at a time. Eating fruit and lots of sugar makes me sad. I know this. On the other hand, I feel like eating alot of protein was not the answer either. So, who knows anymore.
Hopefully, something will happen and I will get better soon. IF not, oh well.

and... I wish all good things for you as well. I am sure you are doing great and weight is just a number, I guess.
I still do not even know what I am suppose to weigh to be healthy! So frustrating sometimes.
I feel more energized after the gym. I took two classes because I was so frustrated with things at school.
I wonder if eating meat will help- what do you think? I have not had any red meat in about 2 months.
As an O, you need red meat, period. No way around that. IMHO, it will help your mental balance, clarity. Go get a burger, today. It will help you feel satisfied when you eat.

Ok, well I went wf and I did get some beef off the hot bar. It was not grass fed, but I didnt freak out. I just ate about 3 oz. It was good, and it was in a turmeric sauce. All compliant.
I was still hungry, so I had a small piece of chicken. I need to just stay focused on this and not stress about the weight. Looking back, I think I weighed less when I was just eating meat and veggies.
I still need to watch portions though. I get so overwhelmed with stuff and then I start overeating which is defeating the purpose.
Back to my work. I am going to just believe that everything will be ok if I listen to my body and the weight will just slip away.

I was getting depressed when I cut my red meat consumption down to about once a week- SWAMI says I should have it 5 times a week but I find I'm OK if I have it at least 3 times each week. Nobody else in my family wants or needs red meat that often, so I make it for the family 2-3 times a week and have leftovers for lunch.
I can only imagine the emotional mess I'd be if I didn't eat red meat for 2 whole months! You have GOT to have red meat every single week, even if you can only afford the cheap stuff. It's far cheaper to buy raw meat and cook it yourself (if you have cooking facilities) than it is to buy ready-to-eat meals.
Also, check out the b-12 and the ingredients in cachetol. Even if you can't afford the DPN versions of these supplements, you may still benefit from a "cheap version" in spite of additives in the products. I've seen B-12 supplements at Trader Joe's for only a few dollars, and I take rhodiola root every day (one component of cachetol.)

Nice thought on the trader joes b-12. I will get some this week.
Well, at least i know I am not alone about the red meat. Today I felt better mentally, and I just hope the weight stays off with the meat.
I know hunters lose weight with meat, but if you compare it to not eating anything than of course, I might gain some weight. Or... maybe I will lose. That would be even better.

We do what we can with the resources we have. But it's pointless to beat yourself up over not eating organic this or organic that. We try to buy organic when we can, but mostly can not afford it. I feel good however, when I make wise food choices = diamond foods/beneficials over neutral or avoid choices.
Type O's need red meat. You are going to feel better in the short and long run if you eat red meat.
Are you O pos or O negative? O neg's need more protein than O pos.

Yay, well I better shed some of this belly fat along with feeling good.
I am o negative, so I probably need more than usual plus all the working out.
Weird-- I know this, but cant seem to just go with it. I guess baby steps.
My issue is once I start eating the meat then I eat more and more and then it trickles... into a big mess.
Not this time, though, I am going to focus on slowing down and breathing and actually enjoying my food. I def need to get a george foreman and maybe a microwave to help me make foods easier and convenient. I am always rushing around and not a fan of the kitchen.

I know I definitely need red meat. I feel better physically, mentally and emotionally when I eat it. As you say, I do better at weight loss concentrating on meat and veggies. And no, I am not recommending you cut carbohydrate foods out completely but stick to compliant types and smaller portions.
You mention once you start eating red meat you tend to overdo it - I suspect your body is tending to grab all red meat it can get in case it is another 2 months before it gets some more Aim for regular portions of the recommended size and I suspect the tendency to overdo it will lessen as your body learns that red meat is on the menu regularly.

Eating small amounts of the wrong foods will cause you to gain weight. Eating larger amounts of the right foods will cause you to loose it. If I eat 1/4 CUP of rice (which is 50 calories max), I will gain a pound overnight but 1/2 POUND of beef (at least 500 calories) will cause me to loose it. Both of them are superfoods for me but my body likes beef so that's what I give it.
Whatever you are currently doing is not working for you. What makes you think you'll get different results if you continue to do those same things? If you don't at least try what everyone is suggesting, you will never know whether it will work and you have nothing to loose by trying except that belly fat.

One of the hardest things about this diet is the logistics. Very little of what's allowed is available prepared and what is available is very expensive. There is a restaurant here selling grass fed burgers, but they're $15. At home, I can make six burgers for that price and don't have to waste the bun. But, I have to spend the time to prepare not only the burger but also the condiments (lettuce, tomato, mayo, onions). I used to love cooking, now I hate it, and every minute I spend in the kitchen is a time wasted IMO.
Another problem is that some of the advice is so hard to coordinate -- don't take Trehalose with quercetin, don't take quercetin with food, don't eat flash frozen protein unless you also have cherry juice -- that I used to get irritated with Dr. D until I realized that he's not doing this to make my life difficult. All he's doing is presenting the facts: what my body will do with that food if I don't follow the rules. It's up to me whether I give my body that opportunity or not. Offering reasons why I can't follow the rules or making excuses for falling off the wagon only hurts me. Excuses don't change the rules, they only prevent me from reaping the benefits.
So, I spend half an hour every morning making a smoothie and another half an hour at lunch making a salad. I buy bison 3 pounds at a time and make a big batch of curry that I eat for the rest of the week. It takes two hours which averages out to 15 minutes a day. There is always a way if you're motivated.
If you're living in a dorm and you don't have any way to store or prepare food, then you have to be creative and yes, a little grill is a great idea. So is a toaster oven and/or a hotplate/induction burner.
Once you have your food prep under control, you will have less stress.

Thanks. I think 95 percent of my issue is food prep. I need cooking appliances and even a microwave would be a luxury right now. Let me ask you about the curry?? How do you make it?
I get you. I had a vegan bar today which had some rice in it and I felt the effects immediately. However, the bar was compliant otherwise, so I cant stress about it.
I did have some beef and feeling better now... I guess I get scared that eating beef is going to catch up to me.
what is weird is that i thought I lost a few pounds because the last 3 days have been 100 but then I get on the scale and I gained two pounds. Oh, well. My clothes are fitting ok so it must be muscle.
I hope to someday not get so hung up on the number, but at this point in my life I am accepting that is how I am and if I can keep it under control then that is a plus. I still am struggling to lose five pounds and keep myself back to my healthy weight. This is not where I want to be, plus, I just feel better when I am not so heavy. make sense? it is more about how I feel then how I look or the number. and... I am feeling better than before, but still need to work on my eating habits. Luckily, I will never give in to gluten or dairy but nuts and big portions of protein can get me in trouble. Fruit--- forget about it. I dont see how I can get that in right now.
So true about eating out.. thanks! Hey, I am heading to Chicago at some point during my break, are you near the city?

We will be visiting DH's mother in North Carolina, a big dietary problem for me. When does your break end and do you have a car?

Look deeper, inward as to why your mind is on these five pounds. Try to disconnect from whatever it is that keeps drawing you back to the weight and think about saying some positive affirmations about yourself, such as:
I love an accept myself on this health conscious journey.
