Do other people, esp Type O ladies have night sweats. Some nights, I am sweating so much, waking up soaking wet (mostly on chest area, sometimes even legs), between 1am and 2am seem to be worst times. My instincts tell me it may have to do that I am not getting enough protein or fat. Some nights, I am fine, but others it is really bad. Or, it could be poor liver function, as an Ayurvedic dr said to take amla powder (high in vitamin C). I had adzuki beans with pumpkin or breakfast with some pumpkin seeds today, seemed to have a little more energy than usual. do other type O's have meat/beef/fish for evening meal, or mroe at lunch time, or both?
I would say it could be liver related, especially for that time of the morning. And your age too, hormones are changing and it's the livers job to process them. I have had that issue in the past and it's back again and from other symptoms I'm having I know my liver is struggling. I try to have meat, poultry or fish at all 3 meals, but for sure for breakfast and supper.

I appreciate your input, BCgal. I also think it is my poor liver function. It seems worse when I eat more or large amount at night, liver trying to detox etc. I am having enough vegetables and juicing some days too. I'm thinking of again, doing one day a week of light eating; ie fruits in morning, cooked veg soup for rest of day. In past, fasting for a day usually helped me, but felt really bad on a pure water fast, so prefer to do a light eating day instead (Sundays best for me). May try and get some amla powder (www.ayurvedabay.com) site in India. Bye for now.

liver meridian starts at 2 o'clock in the morning... nope I guess merely a question of menopausal issues ...ooops sorry for that verité and sorry no symptoms of moiderate blood sugar issues... I guess and sometimes adrenal glands can be *in lacks* as well ....... so far all in all perhaps would you want to give a try to DHEA or wild yams ......
liver meridian starts at 2 o'clock in the morning...
Can you explain this please?
I am a night person. I sleep from 1-2am to 9-10am. If our bedroom is cold I sleep well with a thin quilt; if not, I wake up sweaty. Not soaked, but damp.
What are 'meridians,' why do they start, what do they do once they're started, and is it always 2am or does it depend on when I went to bed or had my last meal?

Basically, each organ (or set of organs) has a specific time during the day when the focus is on healing that organ. I'm sure it is explained much more in a good TCM book, if one exists in English...
I used to have night sweats most nights I over indulged in avoid carbohidrates (wheat, sugar, and milk).
I still have regular periods and this was over 3 years ago (I have not overindulged in the last three years) so I guess it had nothing to do with menopause but hormonal changes related to insulin and glucose levels.
You can start to have symptoms of menopause (perimenopause) years before your periods stop. It's entirely possible to have nights sweats and still have periods. I did.

Do you eat a lot of wheat, sugar and the like? if you do you will find that if you stop your body temperature goes down, At least that's what happens to all I deal with.
But there is probably an issue with not only the Liver but also the Gallbladder.
Difficult to be polite when asking but meant nicely.... do your armpits sweat a lot and I mean a lot? if they do the issue is detox so that your body is not doing enough on its own and may need some help. coconut oil rubbed in armpits and feet. and then a 20 min soak in a Epsom salts bath 3 times a week hot as you can and for 20 mins only to start. if it eases you are on the right path. but the real cause will be a food somewhere either now or in the past usually too much sugar be it from wheat or whatever and generally too much acid. walking is good for that. you need to break a sweat while walking though.
Kind Regards PC.

Jane, you are absolutely right but for me, the night sweats stopped when I stopped over indulging avoid carbohydrates. I do not get them any more and am far closer to menopause.
Eating anything with a higher glycemic index later in the day, almost guarantees that I'll have night sweats. If I eat a good-sized breakfast, a smaller lunch and a light supper, no sweating. I'm not saying that will work for everyone, but it's maybe worth a try.

I get night sweats if I over indulge in wine. I figure it is my body detoxing.

Thankyou all for your comments; yes I do lots of walking, I try to do the self-massage of whole body as often as I can (using sesame oil and aromatherapy oils), as advised by my Ayurvedic doctor, which helps to balance hormones and with detoxing. I think it is also to do with eating more than my system can deal with, in Ayurveda, I am a 'vata' type with vata disorders / imbalances, vata governs movement of fluids around body. I was eating salads and more raw food than I probably should of, so cutting back, has helped. Also, anxiety and worry can put vata out of balance. Yesterday, I had just raw fruit in morning, and cooked soup for lunch and for dinner and rested more than usual; had a much better night and my bowels worked better this morning. Ayurvedic philosophy is indeed accurate and valuable, can work with Dr D'adamo's knowledge too. See http://www.jiva.com, http://www.getbalance.co.nz and http://www.mapi.com; www.fran'shouseof ayurveda.blogspot.com (for recipes)
As some of the other posters have said, I would guess this is peri-menopause, given your age. Just to explain how crazy hormones can be, a friend of mine was having hot flashes while she was nursing her children.
Some of us have a difficult time processing our hormones. I am one of them. For me the night sweats and hot flashes are due to the leftover hormones my body is not able to process. I believe that a lot of my issues are due to my metal toxicity. The metals overload my ability to process toxins, including the toxic byproducts of the hormones.

Thankyou, Patty H for your comments. It's an interesting topic. The Ayurvedic tonics on http://www.ayurveda.bay are very good, shativari rasayana! very tasty too! And we do need good amounts of fat (ghee, avocado, olive oil, seeds/nuts) for hormones and glands to work. Good news too, my weight is slowly getting back to more normal limits, am now 50.4kg, up from 46.6kg earlier this year. sorry folks, not sure about pound conversion.

Check into metal toxicity.
Patty, could you elaborate a little on your method, insight for dealing with it? My wife O+ nonnie like you, is really suffering. She takes 3 Fembalance per day. There seems to be a cycle of sorts. Everything is fine for awhile, like 2-3 weeks, then the flashing and night sweats for awhile. It seems to be either off or on.

I've read some other forums and noticed many ladies following other diets are noticing improvment in menopausal symptoms or hormonal imbalances; the low FODMAPS diet, paleo diet or primal (www.marksdailyapple.com), some versions of the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) - various websites including Kent's diet for his wife who had Chron's disease (www.mombu.com). Our liver breaks down excess hormones and produces hormones from nutrients absorbed, so each lady needs to improve liver and bowel health, taking supplements will be only part of the solution. Also, as Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy states - we do better when we eat at regular times each day to regulate our hormones - routine same every day if possible. This is also mentioned in books on Ayurveda (ancient healing from India). The liver will also be under stress when eating foods not being absorbed or meant by our individual system ie high fructose foods or foods not meant for our blood type or genotype, see low FODMAPS diet, as these foods inflame the gut lining. For me, it means bringing back more fish, eggs; and veg like green beans, silverbeet (Aussie spinach), sweet potato, pumpkin. and cutting back on the seeds/nuts as many are high in omega-6 fats which are pro-inflammatory. I will continue to eat some chia seeds, hemp seed oil, a few macadamia nuts. I seem to feel worse even on small amounts of most nuts/seeds. Some people say cod liver oil beneficial. My protein will need to come mostly from fish, duck, chicken, red meat (preferrably organic, wild healthy fish). Not feeling good on legumes for some reason, sugars/carbs and omega 6 too high I think?? .... Keep going and make changes to diet/nutrition, as change is needed to produce change! we all need good fats, cook in ghee/butter/lard or coconut oil. see http://www.sarahwilson.com.com for more info on sugar and fats.out, the
Thank you, aussielady, for all of this good advice. She is very compliant regarding your suggestions, but the one thing that stands out here is the meat consumption (we are wild-caught fish eaters). We do have a source for organic grass-fed beef, and I think introducing small amounts more frequently may show an overall improvement. Maybe more variety in the beneficials all around, too.
She's been taking Fembalance, but it may be asking too much to expect immediate results? Not sure what the results should be over time.

That's okay, Averno. sorry about my late reply. With supplements, your wife should notice some results within a week or two, I'd say; if not, maybe increase the dosage. My intuition still says that lifestyle, daily routine, food intake/nurition play a very important role. Plus every woman needs to pay attention to stress levels and emotions as these can play havoc with hormones and the liver function. I hope your wife has some quiet time very day or just to do something she loves, even laying in the bathtub, or reading, or taking a walk in nature can help. I think you mentioned your wife is an O, so if she can, yes try some beef or other red meat - even a soup/broth made from bones (see http://www.sarahwilson.com.au for her recipe for broth), have with some vegetables like raw spinach, or cooked chard, kale, broccoli with some fat ie ghee, E-V olive oil, butter, coconut oil. If she is a hunter, try and get your wife to eat some duck too, maybe once a fortnight unless you can get a supply which is not too expensive. and yes, keep on with the fish. some green tea, and ginger tea is good too. must go for now, keep in touch.
