What little I know teeth clenching is caused by stress/ tension. I have found for myself that I'll clench my teeth when I have tension, even something as simple as a sewing project going wrong. Try doing alternate breathing. or other relaxation techniques.

You've done so well!

My guess is that since you were doing it prior to BTD, stopped for a while, and are now doing it again, that it MAY be a healing issue.  It is possible that there was some problem in your diet that caused this, you stopped eating it, so the problem went away for some time, but there may still be some of that item stored somewhere in the body that is now being removed.

The best answer I can provide is to continue to eat well and see if this issue gets better over several months...  You don't say how long the issue was present prior to the diet, but even if you did, it is hard to guess how long to suggest to allow the symptoms to clear before being concerned, unless you can feel some spots that are sore where waste may be being removed...

I can't explain why this works but it did for me:

Clench your teeth as hard as you can and hold for a minute or two.  Do this 10 - 15 times every day.  Eventually, you will notice that you aren't clenching inadvertently any more and can stop doing it on purpose.

My father in law says his dentist gave him that advice years ago, it worked for him, and he shared it with me about 5 years ago.

I haven't clenched my teeth inadvertently since then.

Check with your dentist to see if you have been clenching or grinding your teeth for awhile.  They will show a wear pattern.  Take it from the "King of Bruxers" as my dentist refers to me.

The advice here from BHealthy is good, it works for me, too. Also, open your jaws like a scream, to stretch them in the same manner. You should feel the tension melt away.

I agree with Deblynne. The source is probably an emotional fixation. Something under your skin?

I clench my teeth while I sleep.  I ended up getting a mouth guard because I had cracked most of my molars from the pressure.  I have crowns on all of them now and I am trying to protect the crowns.  I don't know why I clench while sleeping but it is not that uncommon.
