Hi
I just bought the books. I have to wait a couple of days though! In the meantime I was wondering..
I'm a bloodtype A. I've been doing sports all my life; Tennis, and the last few years powertraining. I already started changing my diet a bit to TYPE A. It's not that hard for me since I can follow strict fooddiets (due to powertraining).
Now, I take proteinpowder + supplements to help a bit with musclebuilding. (at the moment I'm cutting weight) I use the following products:
*100% whey powder (proteins (maximize)) *pro80 active (proteins) *BCAA's (Amino acids, L-Leucine, L-valine, L-isoleucine +B6 vitamin) *CLA (not proven to work though) *L-Glutamine
Been taking the supps in capsules, I believe it's made of gelatin.
Do any of these products harm my health according to the bloodtype diet? Can I change certain products? For example I've seen protein powder of "soy" instead of the usual 100%whey. But I know soy isn't always good since it can be genetically manipulated...
Could anyone with a bit of fitness/powertraining food background help me?
Thanks!

Hi, Soy is better for A's than Whey. If you really want to know, you'd have to call the supplement companies and ask them what their sources are for the supplement. If it's bovine, then, yes it's not good for you. Did you know the source for L-cysteine is hair? Probably why I don't do too well on it. The body does 'know' that these things are foreign. I have a hard time with vitamin D3 from lamb's wool. I break out in a rash. I have to take the fish oil version instead. |

Ok yeah I've been reading a bit on the supplements. He's selling Soy proteins so that must be better I guess. CLA is apparently linked to the genotype diet for warrior/ gather which according to my blood tipe, I am not... I'm not sure what to make of that. Anyway CLA hasn't really been proven to work. I just take it in case it might work. No negative tests have been found. :p I need to catch up on the supplements here though I'm probably going to finish my bottles of wheyproteins first and then switch to soy proteins. My veggies and fruits are already up to date. I'm going to miss the bananas though |

Sure, waste not. I don't like bananas so that's no problem for me. I have trouble giving up tomatoes. But you just started so get comfortable with the A diet and see how you like it. |

While an A can't be a gatherer, quite a few are warriors. |

I'm also a bloodtype A and I was considering taking L-glutamine. Please do a search on the forum here because Dr. D'Adamo states that Glutamine should be avoided by Bloodtype A and B because it raises cortisol levels.
This forum is the place to learn and know what are the best supplements/food for your bloodtype.

I do better on rice protein powder than soy. I eat a lot of soy, but it's all in a more whole form (i.e. tofu or soy milk powder). |

I have used the NAP protein powder for A.... about 3 years now. It is easily digestible for me (since I don't eat any other soy except a little bit of soymilk in my 3x week coffee or some roasted soy nuts maybe once a month) as I mix it with Greek yogurt, Harmonia from NAP, juice and berries for a great protein "shake" or smoothie! I recently got my DH to try the NAP protein powder for O and he likes that it doesn't upset his stomach like commercial ones containing whey! |

Mayflowers, what is the name of your fish oil version of D3 please? The version from lanolin doesn't suit me either, just feel yukky after it. |

Captain Janeway, My DH is an O+ hunter and uses NAP's protein powder...rice and egg whites. Perhaps that would work for you. |

Yep, I haven't used any in a while but if I go back to using it I'll try the O powder. Thanks. |

Whey is a superfood diamond for explorers, which are mostly A or O. I muscled up a lot using it in college, to where my mom thought i was using steroids. I was not even a serious lifter or athlete, just lifted every other day and recovered, with moderate running and basketball at that point. |
