I had to make an emergency visit to the eye Dr. this week, my appointment wasn't until late December. I have been having horrible eyestrain and migraines, when I wear my glasses, I need them for distance and driving. When I had my appointment in Dec of 2011 my vision had improved about 20% , but decided not to get glasses. Hubby need to get glasses also. He wears blended lense bifocals and are very expensvie. So he got his instead. Anyway, this trip, vision had improved by 50%. so I needed glasses in a bad way, Dr. knew I am on BTD, but was amazed at changes in vision, all together a 70% improvement. I think dropping all grain and beans 6 weeks ago had a lot to do with it, and was a really good move. Also made me, with the need to get full, eat a lot more greens. I ate a whole pan of kale chips by myself yesterday. The improvement really came about suddenly. I told the tech that helped me pick out glasses that I didn't want to spend a lot on frames because I think I'll be doing this again and soon. But still spent over $500.00 anyway. So to all those nay sayers about the BTD not working; the proof is in the eye chart!!!! |

Awesome news... Hopefully, the improvement continues - but hopefully you won't need to see the Dr. again until your eyes are good enough to not need glasses at all! |

Wow, congratulations Kittykar1, that's amazing! Is it common for eyes to improve on the BTD/GTD? I am fairly new to wearing glasses - I got my first pair about a year ago, very low prescription lenses for reading/computer etc but it'd be great if I could halt the deterioration or even improve my eyes on this diet! |

Kittykar1, is this your first post on this subject, or is there some background I've not seen? If eyesite can be improved so much through diet, are you suffering from a nutrient defficiency? At our age we should be consulting opthamologists, not optometrists, so I'm wondering if your diagnosis is at issue. Eyesight decline has been very frustrating for me. |

If your vision improves dramatically again, before these glasses wear out, you can get new lenses put into your existing frames. There's no need to buy all new frames every 4 months! |

Averno,
No, this is my first post on the subject. My ophtometrist is also an ophtomologist. We live in a small rural area, so eye guys are multi-taskers. I think it is just a matter of bad carbs causing sugar spikes in the blood and eating many of the wrong foods. Eye pressure has always been fine and retinas look good. I only started wearing glasses about 8 years ago. I think it was becasue of all the diet soda I drank, when I worked at the hopital and health department to get me through jobs I hated. The need for glasses just happened very suddenly. Also think I am very insulin resistant, worse than I thought. By dropping carbs recently, I think that helped.
Ruthiegirl,
Yes I can put lens in the same frames but will be stuck without glasses for 10 to 14 days. I have been stuck at home this past week unless hubby takes me. If I wear old glasses for 10 mintues or more, the migraine sets in and lasts for 2 days. Good thing we are self employed and can work from home.
My hearing has also improved recently, but it was really not a problem to begin with. I just keep turning the tv or cd player down a lot more and hear it just as well. Sense of smell as also increase greatly, can smell things even 23 yo daughter can't.

I wonder if drug store glasses would work for you as a spare? Great news about your vision and hearing!! |

When I finally needed new lenses, I bought a new pair of frames for my new lenses. Since then, every couple of years when I need new lenses, I give the eye doctor my oldest frames to put the new lenses in and keep using the glasses I had been wearing for the last couple of years. It was an initial investment, but it payed off by keeping the same two frames and just swapping for new lenses every couple of years. |

D.L. That is a good idea, but I have run into " Oh we can no longer fit lenses in to those old frames." I still have several pairs of old frames. I am going to donate all old glasses to Lions Club, just haven't done it yet. Now you ask why do I still go that eye clinic, because they are the best in the area. They would put polarized lenses into my newset frames, though. |
