My acne is no where as bad as it was when I was 14, I will be 19 in a few hours (oh my gosh!!!!), and I have been gluten free for months, dairy free for years, and recently soy and corn free for a few months. I have been fallowing BTD, and the only sweets I indulge in are my blueberry rice flour pancakes (sue me! HA!), I have been eating my kombucha cultures to get the probiotics, taking a lot of raw garlic, and I did a kombucha enema, and wow, I'm shocked at how backed up I was! I ordered some top quality probiotics, to aid in the battle, but I just want to know that there is hope !

Is there anything else I can do? I have keratosis pilaris too, but that's deffo a gut thing, heal my gut and everything will be healed. I am also taking L-glutamine pills for my gut lining.

I'm getting closer, I can feel it! I'm just impatient! I also have these freak phases where I start touching my skin and picking at it, mostly on my back and legsss.

Maybe find out if you have any heavy metals (i.e. mercury, cadmium etc.) & get a FLDP (functional liver detoxification profile) done. If you have a sluggish liver then there is heaps you can do for that which could really help your skin!

I had stubborn acne until I started detoxing.

Trace Elements inc. is good for getting a HTMA done (hair tissue mineral analysis) to assess for heavy metals.

Also, both my brother & I found that going to sleep early and getting heaps of sleep is really important to help keep our skin looking & feeling its best.

Hope this helps !

In the Genotype book, there is a simple little liver detox at the end of the Explorer description chapter.

Will you add Non-Secretor to your Avatar box?  It will help people understand and be more accurate in helping you.

We nonnies are a very sensitive bunch and it's extremely important for us to be highly compliant on the diet.  Fine tune your diet as much as possible for maximum speed in your healing and detoxification.

It sometimes feels this way...

I have been detoxing and healing for about 5 or 6 years now...  It depends on how unhealthy you were and how much toxin storage your body had done prior to changing to this lifestyle...

I recently discovered my skin reactions are most probably not being caused by the allergies I thought they were... I'm pretty sure now, that my problems stem from my body's response to high levels of histamines - caused by foods high in that, as well as foods which trigger the histamine response in me... Also too low a level of B6 etc contributes to this response...

Maybe there are other things contributing to your reactions?

Most acne is hormonal, and caused by estrogen dominance with or without concurrent high testosterone levels. In the diet, these hormones are set into overdrive when blood sugar levels are at moderate-high levels.

A clean diet is a good foundation to fixing the problem. It is essential to be free from ANY sugar, and it might be necessarily initially to focus more on veggies and reduce grains and fruit to make sure your blood sugar and hormones aren't getting set off by even the smallest amount of fruit. I've seen people whose acne is caused by eating 3 or 4 pieces of fruit per day, or by eating more than 1 serve of grains per day - even whilst on a sugar free diet. Some people are more sensitive to sugars than others.

Flaxseed oil is a good food to increase SHBG, which is like a vacuum cleaner for the "bad" hormones. 1tbsp a day can be useful. Broccoli is another good food, it contains I3C which helps to break down hormones in the liver.

Then once your blood sugar has stabilised a bit, and your skin has come good, you can test the waters to see how much fruit and grains you can tolerate before your skin complains.

Happy Birthday!

It takes time to do deep healing. Sometimes the skin will  get worse before it gets better as the body detoxifies junk through the skin. Everything you're doing WILL work to heal your body from the inside out, but it could take months or even years before you're at 100%.

YES you WILL. Try to check your androgen levels and go carefully thru the family tree to see if there were any cases of polycystic ovarian syndrome in the women. there is generally more testosterone produced in the woman when this happens which can lead to male-like acne.

Interesting. My eldest son is 21 and a type O and he still gets pimples ,,,he said he has noticed he gets a flare up after eating dairy ...I pointed out how bad that was for an O ..now he's reading the books since I have his  younger brother on the BTD  (also an O).

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Thanks SO MUCH to all of you that wished me a happy birthday! I am 19 now, and feel like I have a lot more of a handle on my life than I did when I was 16. I want to stop wasting my life on the internet worried about my skin. Here is a fun video I forgot I madeeeeeeeeee. It just proves how self conscious I am. Hahaha, I seem really confident, but still am not comfortable in my own skin, so I resort to being british and using distractions to draw attention away from other things

Get your Vitamin A levels checked.  My oldest son had low cortisol levels and needs to take it in order to keep the acne away.  My youngest son and I take Vit A and Zinc to keep acne away.

I get acne when my estrogen levels are too high.  Get your estrogen levels checked as well.  Progesterone helps counteract the high levels of estrogen.  RU on the birth control pill?  If so, I would get off it immediately.  It really screwed up my hormones.

Take three handfuls of fresh thyme. Dice up.

Mix with 2 cups alcohol (Everclear is one with high proof but can use vodka instead)

Let sit for one day covered.

Add 3 cups water. Solution will gradually turn an amber gold color.

Bottle. Wash skin AM and PM.

Maybe I will start carrot/sweet potato juicing again. Last time my skin seemed the same and my poo was bright orange!! But now that I am taking pro-biotics, perhaps my body will absorb it more!

And can't I just get zinc from meat, fish, and greens? I have a whole cabinet full of supplements, and now only take fish oils and probiotics, I don't like having to live from pills!
