Hi!
First post here....so forgive me if this has been addressed.  I did do a search but came up with nothing
So, I'm a type O.  The book says that I need to avoid olives and avocado...and did not say why.
Can anyone give me an answer on this?

Avocados are beneficial is you're a non-secretor. I'm not sure why olives should be avoided when olive oil is beneficial for all types and secretors. I'd recommend getting a secretor test and following the TYPEbase food values on this website.

I'm pretty sure that  green olives are neutral for O secretors, while black olives are an avoid for all Os and green olives are an avoid for O nonnies. All I know for certain is that they're an avoid for me personally (I have a personalized diet via a computer program called SWAMI, so my personal food values vary somewhat from the published lists.)

Olives are all pickled or fermented, which changes how they react in your body. Olive oil is beneficial for almost everybody, while the olives themselves are much less well tolerated.

For right now, I would suggest looking up the values on the Type Base online and following the secretor values. You can tweak the diet later if you find out your secretor status, or if you switch to genotype diet or SWAMI. For right now, first starting out, the basic Blood Type Diet is fine. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed.

It's OK to make dietary changes in baby steps, rather than trying to change everything at once. The first thing to focus on, as an O, is to cut down on wheat, dairy, potatoes, and corn, while emphasizing vegetables and animal protiens. You should still include grains in your diet- brown rice is a good one- but make it a smaller part of the meal and fill up on meat/fish/poultry/eggs and veggies.

Avocados are unfortunately high in histamines and don't seem to suit me, despite me apparently being a non secretor (mind you that test could have been wrong)

SWAMI lists avocado as a full-on avoid for me (I'm really looking forward to this coming football season. My homemade guacamole is a tailgate party tradition so it's not like I can just stop making it ... only I'll get to watch everyone else eating it instead. Oh well, live to serve ). Fortunately, green olives are okay. Black olives are avoids, though.

Hi Conor,  how about use Mango instead of avocado in your homemade guacamole.

Thanks, that's an interesting idea. The sweetness of the mango would nicely play off of the spiciness of the jalapeño and serrano chile peppers, and would complement the roasted tomatillos, Vidalia onions, cilantro and other secret spices.

Since avocado is creamy, I think I'll experiment with coarsely chopping some of the mangoes and slightly puréeing the others to see if I can replicate the chunky-smoothness of avocado-based guacamole. Too, maybe a tablespoon or two of raw chia seed oil mashed with an ounce or two of barely still green banana would help simulate the oily mouthfeel and slight nutty, buttery, grassy undertones of the avocado.

Chai yo wanthanee!! Thanks to you (and Lola for her compliant 'tortilla chip' idea) it looks like I'll have a new addition for our future tailgate parties, and one of which I can freely partake. I'll credit you by naming it "Wanthamole" (mole is kind of a generic word for 'sauce' in Texico ... the border area of Texas and Mexico).

Looks like I need to do some more reading.

I bit of my history:  I've already lost 120 lbs and have kept it off for the past 7 yrs.
I don't eat wheat, do minimal dairy and eat lots of fresh veggies, good proteins and some fruits each day.  I enjoy eating rye Wasas as part of my grains and also Ezekiel.  I tend to avoid all rice simply due to overeating it.
I'm trying to fine tune my diet and thats why I was looking at the BTD.

Hi Judy

Great job on making the changes to get healthy  

I have found that cutting out dairy, wheat, pretty much all grains, plus my IgG food intolerances means the difference between me constantly gaining 0.5kg a month, vs sitting at a good weight.

I have just started back on track with my eating, and in less than a week have already lost over 1kg. I hold water due to the inflammation when I eat allergens and avoids.

Lucky for me I have a bad allergy to potato (makes my throat close over just a little  ) which is motivation enough that I haven't contemplated eating them in 14 years since discovering the allergy and removing from my diet.

I hope you find the BTD useful, and ALL the mountains of info in these forums!!
