A couple years ago, it started with my mom's hardback, Eat Right For Your Bloodtype book which says that Grouper is "highly beneficial" for type A. A few months ago, I bought the paperback, type A supplement book and to my surprise it says Grouper is on the "avoid" list. A couple weeks ago, my boss bought the ERFYB book and it's consistent with the supplement book as well as your website.
Why does my mom's book have Grouper in the opposite category? Was it a misprint? Was Grouper misinterpreted "at the beginning"? And is there anything else I have yet to find that's also in the wrong category?
Otherwise, good stuff!
Thanks, Heath |

I can't answer the specific question posed because there is no indication in the errata about any error pertaining to Grouper for Type A. http://www.dadamo.com/errata/smartfaq.cgiFrom the Grouper Typebase entry, it appears that there is some agglutinin other than a lectin that causes the problem in Type A. Conjecture: It is possible that the original book used the lectin database, but since the problem isn't a lectin the avoid substance wasn't discovered until later... The most up-to-date food lists for ER4YT are in Typebase, so it is best to double check there when following that diet. |

Hi,
Some ( a few) food ratings have changed over the years as more information was incorporated. Typebase has the most recent ratings. Typebase rating have been stable for at least a few years.
The original book was based on a mixture of secretor and non-secretor values. That also causes some changes in later books. |

Gotcha. I figured it was something like that rather than a simple misprint though some sort of disclaimer would have been nice in all revisions after the original.
Thanks for your help everybody.

Maybe it makes it neutral! A positive and a negative cancel out! |

Not everybody *needs* a SWAMI- many people want to start off with the BTD, figure that out, and maybe or maybe not invest in SWAMI down the road. But without getting clear answers to "how does this food rate on BTD?", many people may decide that "eating right" is just too complicated and give up on it altogether. When the books are in conflict, the online typebase is considered the most reliable source. In general, the newer books are considered more reliable than the older books, as they reflect newer research. However, if you're following one of the books for a specific condition, then use the ratings from the book- many values do change when targeting specific health problems. According to the typebase, grouper is neutral for A nonnies and an avoid for A secretors. http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?184 If you don't know your secretor status, it's best to avoid this food for now. |
