I've recently increased my whole grains from a diet where I almost totally eliminated them.
I eliminated them about 1 1/2 years ago, based on a book written on how to cure tooth decay, which explained that Phytic acid is the culprit to sore gums. Well, so being an A, I started to incorporate more whole grains and interestingly my teeth look and feel healthier, but my  gums are swollen and my tongue is sore. I understand that an A diet is mostly veggies and soy, grains being less dominant, but I'm just trying to understand the fact, that if A's are able to digest grains, then why did my gums get worse?

Thanks...

Sounds like some kind of inflammatory response, which I also have issues from. Corn (especially corn syrup) is not well tolerated by all type A's as well as nightshade vegetables; these foods are completely restricted by my SWAMI since I indicated I have inflammatory problems as well as many family members. I also have had a history of tooth decay. I have 4 crowns as a result of root canals and the gums around those crowns get inflamed very easily. When I deviate from my Warrior diet, my gums get soar. You may be a non-secretor due to your issues with decay and soarness; I'd recommend getting tested as well as finding out your genotype to better refine your diet.

Good advice - get a secretor test one.

Do you soak and use a starter when preparing your grains?

there are threads on here that discus these things in detail.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Candace,

I'm an A also and I've always had issues with my gums.  It is something internal that is affecting the health of your gums but you can help yourself tremendously.

If you are not familiar with essential oils please look up two oils:  clove oil and myrrh.  I use http://www.anandaapothecary.com.  These oils are therapeutic and medicinal.  After using myrrh oil my dental hygienist gave me a glowing report.  And clove oil is proven to help sore teeth etc.

I agree and them remember to soak your grains and beans.

After I started doing that and had more butter/ghee in my diet I have had no cavieties the last 7 years
My daughter who is really bad at brushing her teeth has very good gum heath as well.
Both of us used to have cavities and issues with gum.

Thanks guys for all your feedback. Sorry for being so late in reply but I've got adrenal burnout and I can barely get going everyday..  Interestingly my inflammation of gums and teeth have gone away so maybe it's not so much the grains but my adrenal fatigue on some days. The fact that I don't have the inflammation anymore must mean that the increased grains consumption must be okay with me.. I will certainly, though, from now on soak my grains. Good idea!
I have also purchased the SWAMI computer software and am excited to see the results!
