My store quit stocking my organic hormone free butter so I've been looking for a new source. I emailed Braum's to find out if their dairy products are all hormone free and this is the reply I received. "all the dairy products that Braum's makes (milk, ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, yogurt, cottage cheese, butter, and sour cream) are made from the milk from their dairy herd, which is free of rBGH and rBST antibiotics and hormones. Also, our meat is “All Natural” meaning no hormones/antibiotics from birth during their entire life."
They do feed grain and soy to the bovines but some of them get grass. It also only opens stores within 300 miles of their home farm so it's fairly locally sourced. And the price is fairly inexpensive, around 2.50 a pound when I was checking it out last week. |

Kibble, I buy raw cream direct from a local dairy that pasture feeds their dairy herd and, after culturing it with milk kefir grains for 12 hours or so, I use a blender to make it into butter. It tastes so much better than store-bought butter, and it's also less expensive. If you're interested in trying it, you can find a source for raw milk/cream in your state here: - http://www.realmilk.com/where.html

One other idea: Organic Pastures in California will ship raw butter to you, and their cows graze on pasture all year round. - http://organicpastures.com/products_butter.html
They have both regular and cultured butter. Here's an excerpt from their 'butter' page:
Quoted from Raw Butter
Raw butter from grass pasture fed cows is filled with metabolically available Vitamin A and E, lecithin, antioxidants, selenium, healthy cholesterol, beneficial bacteria, and enzymes. Raw butter contains Factor X: essential for optimal bone, brain, and nervous system development. Organic Pastures butter is made from cold churned raw cream and nothing else, with no salt or colorings added.

My health problems/fatigue/exhaustion in my 30s were caused by not eating enough saturated fat. I have reversed some of it in the last year just from eating roughly twice as much butter as I used to. |

If I could do it all over again I would eat like I do now. My Hunter version of the diet is way better than my old O version. |

I personally would feel comfortable using hormone-free, local butter if organic wasn't available. |

There's actually a lot of different kinds of butter on the shelves these days, even goat butter, but that's kind of expensive. I like the Kerrygold brand. It's an important staple for me, integral to my digestive health. |

Just interviewed two Nepalese men under 45 years old: Yak butter tea is, to their knowledge, not served in Katmandu anymore. Even up in the high country, they believe, it's a rarity. "You mean, if you go to Starbucks there, you can't order a Yak Butter TeeChino or Latté?" I asked.
I sure would like to use Yak butter one of these days.
There's goat butter available here. It of course has a goaty taste. |

Cow butter doesn't taste beefy, but it does have the rich, sweet taste of cow's milk / dairy products, while goat butter has the goaty taste you find in goat's milk and cheeses. |

Sorry - was just kidding around... But you are right, regular butter just tastes sweet & creamy!! I wonder - it must have something to do with what the goats eat? |

Oh, no! This goes with cows being passive, submissive, and dependent, while goats are outgoing, aggressive, bold, and independent. They climb the steepest slopes. |

I thought this would be pigs. Goats eat trees and thorns... They say that donkeys eat everything. |

Oh? I was brought up with that notion re goats - in fact the (very newly built) church I went to had a goat in the (at that stage) very weedy overgrown yard, precisely for that purpose?! |

There is a difference in how strong the flavor of goat's milk is between goats eating the exact same foods... Some goats just have more flavor in their milk. Some goat's milk is as sweet as cows milk, just thicker, but some has a really strong flavor. |

Especially when they decide to graze in a weed patch. ((: |

I talked to my friend who has an olive grove. They kept goats for few years. She has never heard of goats that eat rubbish... |

Interesting.. Oh well I wasn't claiming to be an expert... Was just what I had heard/seen?! I guess it might also depend on what they have available to eat? |
