I have been following the Blood Type Diet (I am a type A) for over 2 years now. I can't believe I didn't know about this earlier!
I decided to eliminate all meat products from my diet shortly after starting the Blood Type Diet and I have a question about wheat gluten. A lot of the "fake meat" products use wheat gluten and I have been avoiding them because of this, am I correct in my belief that it is wheat? Is "gluten free" best for Type A's?
Many thanks!

I am a type A secretor. I am very allergic/intolerant of gluten. I get sinus headaches and congestion and my pulse goes way up. |

If you don't have a sensitivity to gluten there's no reason to avoid it. |

Tracy2, How do you feel after eating gluten/wheat? Listen to your body. Like many other A's, gluten and cows milk/dairy seriously affect my sinuses. My body does much better without them. |

A's can have some gluten grains, but this is best consumed as the whole grain, not as isolated wheat protein.
There's no reason to be a complete vegetarian. A's are permitted fish and poultry, although generally in smaller quantities than O's need. Most A's do poorly on red meats, although some do well on small amounts of lamb.
It's a whole lot healthier to eat a little chicken or turkey than it is for you to eat Tofurkey. Most of those "vegetarian meat analogues" are highly processed and full of ingredients nobody should be ingesting. Even the ones labeled "all natural" often contain gums that are harmful to the digestive tract. |

Gluten is becoming more widely known as a big problem for all blood types.
At my local farmers' market every Saturday, many farmers are now selling gluten-free products, also wheat free, since wheat is a big problem for many.
Even some medical doctors are now advising people to get rid of all gluten from their diets.
As a Type A with a thyroid condition and a low iron level, I recently found out that gluten interferes with iron absorption. I took it out and within 2 days started to feel better.
So the thing would be to investigate a bit further....keep a food journal and see if you have a sensitivity to it or not. |
