I also have SIBO. Do I just follow the blood type O diet (that is my blood type) to heal my intestines and get rid of the bacteria? Also, what cause the overgrowth? Thanks for any helpyou may have. I'm miserable with loose bowels, bloating, and generally feeling unwell. |

If you have serious overgrowth you may have to do a bit extra.
By perhaps going easy on any sugars. but you would certainly need to do the Yeast protocol. but perhaps others too. for example if you have intestinal candida i think the protocols recommended are yeast, immune, stomach and or intestinal and or allergy protocols.
If I were you and you were near one of the practitioner I would consult with one if you have sibo. it can stick around for years and years and generally mess with everything.
I still have it - but am going hard at removing it now. I still get cravings though which put me back weeks. it is a hard one to beat.
the diet alone will help a lot but personally I think you need to take herbs etc too.

SIBO is a bacterial overgrowth. There is a bacterial candida, which is necessary, but it can be out of balance - so it could be this. There are multitudes of bacteria that it could be and there are different locations in the small intestine that the overgrowth can occur - which may affect what bacteria is overgrown... Yeast is a fungus, so SIBO wouldn't be that... |

I guess you have confused me. I thought by your question that you have SIBO. If so, whatever bacteria is out of control has not healed! If you HAD SIBO, but no longer do, then the bacterial overgrowth has healed. It is possible that yeast infection can come and go, but SIBO (by definition) will never be fungal! |

AB Joe, I was confused on this. I did have a test that showed candida some years ago. So that is SIBO. Since then tests did not show any. The acupuncturist tells me I have 'damp' issues, which I took to mean yeast. thanks for clarifying.

Not necessarily... Candida can be bacterial or fungal... It is bacterial normally, but from what I've read it can go fungal in certain circumstances. You need to be sure what form the candida is to be able to treat it properly. It sounds like you have it under control, so it's good. |

Policychecker, Thanks for your comments. Can you share what you are doing to help combat SIBO? I understand you're following the O+ diet as I 'm starting to do, but you suggested I might need additional help such as herbs, etc. What type of herbs?
Any help you can give me that has helped you would be great. I'm back on the 0+ diet for just a few days and am already feeling less gassy and bloated. Which is a great help. Also, I read that drinking a glass of water with a lemon squeezed into it before each meal will help increase HCL acid production (which can be low in those of us with SIBO) and also help compact the bacteria.
Look forward to you reply. |

Take three bottles of gastro d with intrinsia and deflect. I would stop all my other supplements.
How high was the hydrogen? Then have it rechecked and let me know if it helped. |

I think Andreas advice might be the best bet I am dealing with many issues and don't want to confuse you.
I would however recommend you get a secretor test as a priority.
By herbs I mean supplements i use many but Genoma eq I use a lot. i have used gastro and intrinsa a lot in the past too they are both very good.
I also use deflect a lot and love it but have run out. |

Once you are done with the protocol then you might like to take some polyflora and some ara6.
But I would wait till I was done with the gastro d etc...
I did not have success with the gastro d and needed something stronger in the end. For most people the protocol works quite well-- I own my own Breath Hydrogen monitor so it is easy for me to check it myself
But most supplements are short term so try to look at them as treatment.

Organisms like Candida Albicans need organic, carbon-based compounds to provide them with energy. In practice this means sugars like glucose, fructose and sucrose. They use this energy to grow and to build their cell walls, which are comprised 80% of carbohydrates.
However, Candida is a particularly versatile pathogen, and those sugars serve one extra purpose. They enable the Candida yeast cells to switch to their more virulent, fungal form. This form of Candida grows long branches that can cause Leaky Gut Syndrome. It is also faster-growing and much more likely to cause Candida symptoms. |
