I've been following this diet (O diet) for two weeks on Monday. I've lost 4.4 lbs so far BONUS! WOOHOO! I have about 20 more to go. Anyway, I am noticing that I am breaking out with acne worst than before. I've always been prone to acne, but it seems to be getting worst Also, other than weight loss, I don't really feel different. Shouldn't I notice something else by now? |

Your body does throw a wobbly at the start. That seems to be normal so don't worry too much. if it lasts for no more than a few weeks or get really bad i would not be too worried. you may be detoxing very quickly.
assuming you are being very complaint (feel free to lsit a typical weeks worth of ALL food intake) then perhaps you are eating too much of one or too foods whilst trying to be complaint. time will tell.
usually the acne comes from dairy, wheat, sugar or a combination. what foods have you started eating that you did not eat before or what foods have you increased recently. if you find that nothing changes then we can later talk about other chemical reactions like histamine, salicylates, glutamate's and the like.
keep a food dairy and perhaps get a secretor test. |

The acne could be many things - detox, lack of a micronutrient you are getting less of now that you've changed your diet, etc. Many people find that taking zinc clears up acne. Think about the things you've cut from your diet and the things that you've added - see if you can make a connection with anything. I had had bad acne all through middle school/high school then when I started college I began taking L-glutamine for bone and muscle health, and it cleared up my acne almost immediately; I didn't take the L-glut for long, but the acne never came back. You never know what your body might need.

Is there a specific health problem you're searching to get rid of? It has only been 2 weeks. Some people who start out with a major problem find quick relief from the BTD, but if you didn't have any major symptoms to begin with then you may not have as drastic a change at the beginning. ps: have you switched toothpastes recently? floride and sodium lauryl sulfate in toothpaste are common causes of acne |

Thanks ladies.... In a nutshell this is my diet. Breakfast Either eggs with veggies (mushrooms, peppers, onions) OR 2 rice cakes with banana and almond butter. OR a smoothie with water, blueberries, banana and almond butter. Snack FRUIT Lunch Huge Spinach salad (or kale but I did not like it) with red pepper, pineapple or mango, walnuts, onions, pumpkin seeds, and olive oil ... usually I either add canned salmon or tuna OR I have leftover steak or chicken/turkey that I add to it also. Dinner steak with sweet potato or brown rice and a veggie Snacks if needed are handful of almonds, rice cake with almond butter, or fruit I drink water. I did NOT give up coffee. I have a cup in the morning with a dash of soy creamer and a teaspoon of sugar. I'm working on this one.... As for diet changes, the thing I added most to my diet is spinach and olive oil. I use A LOT of olive oil throughout my day (I use a tablespoon on my salad in the afternoon and I saute all veggies in it while cooking). As for other issues that I'd love to clear up.....energy and depression. I just seem to tire so quickly I wouldn't say I am lazy, just tired! I am on Effexor and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get off of it. |

It seems like you're doing great - especially for only 2 weeks in. The olive oil or spinach should not be the problem. As for your energy, does it feel like it's related to blood sugar? If so, I'd cut down on grains/high-GI carbs even more. By the sound of your diet, you're doing good with this, but, if it is blood sugar, breakfast should include more protein (probably should have more protein in the AM anyway). The rice cakes in the morning wouldn't be a good idea either.

Lots of meats are good for O's. Keep up with variety to prevent yourself from getting bored. I'm BT A, but I can't imagine a breakfast without meat/fish, but I don't eat the same meat all the time. That's one of the great things about having the BT list (especially if you have swami); there's a lot of variety. |

For me, what was making me break out a lot was chocolate. When I saw I could have it I was eating dark chocolate everyday and cocoa powder. It clogs my pores. Are you eating any? |

insulin resistance may just be the causee of your acne flareups.....that soy creamer needs to go asap, if you want fast results |

the acne could be caused by a lot of what you are eating. but this is a tme of change for you. so i would suggest that you do as you are doing for a week.
if you can do some of the following.
don't mix foods too often by that i mean rice crackers and fruit or almond butter. is the almond butter home made lest ingredients on her si f you like.
coffee and soya could be the cause, but if could also be the olive oil, or spinach. infact the kale, onions, and things like that can throw our gut off if yo have issues there
if you have sugar in your coffee it can upset your skin.
do you eat anything that has milk solids or milk proteins in the ingredients. chocolate, milk powder, these are the usual things that are responsible.
just as an experiment limit yourself to one ice of fruit for a few days, eat it first thing on an empty stomach and don't eat anything for about 30 mins. try grapefruit.
have more meat and eggs to make up for it, freshly prepared to avoid histamines.
try not sautéing your veggies - try steaming them.
not a doctor so can't advise on Effexor but i read that mixing with alcohol is very dangerous. and tiredness is normal by the looks of the side effects. so keep working at the food.
take some advise from more experienced users her on supplements to help with depression and anxiety. mood lifters etc. (legal ones lol) |

Maca did absolutely nothing for my acne, neither did chasteberry (vitex). I am having my progesterone checked this month to see if maybe by bringing it up it will help. The only thing that clears up my acne 100% is birth control, so I asked the dr to make my hormones the way they would be on bc. She said it is a good theory. I just have to wait 20 days to get tested. I thought my acne was due to high testosterone, but she says it's perfect, not high. I do have a friend who has acne due to high testosterone. Have you ever had your hormones checked? |

Exercise & make sure to eat all the food you're supposed to. If you have been protein or fat deficient from animal sources your hormones could be off. If it doesn't clear up in 6 weeks switch to genotype. It could be you need to eliminate or add something. |

This is something to think about. Some people do better on BTD, some on GTD, and some need swami. Although I'm type A I seem to need a good bit of protein. I can tell when I've had too much protein, but I definitely can't do a vegetarian diet; I need more meat than the BTD allows, and my swami is so completely different from BTD or GTD that I'm really glad I got it. |

My type A granddaughter, age 14 was suffering from severe acne for the past 2 years.. It's been 9 weeks since she's following the type A diet and her skin has totally cleared up.. She's eliminated beef, bananas, tomatoes, dairy, sugar, gluten and all the toxins that are on her food list. Drinking soy protein smoothies for breakfast. Eating more vegetables. It's really been a miraculous transformation. Wish I had known about the BTD when I was her age because my skin was as broken out as my granddaughter's was. The motivation for her staying on her diet is knowing she's not breaking out. She's tall, thin and doesn't have a blood sugar problem...but I'm quite sure the bad lectins were causing severe toxicity in her gut. She also was switched from fish oil to cod liver oil plus Evening Primrose oil which seems to be a perfect combination for her. Flax oil and peanut butter are on her avoid list.
My skin is actually much better on the BTD than it's been on my SWAMI. Acne is something a person potentially can always have and even at my age, my skin will break out from dairy and and some animal proteins. When I eat recommended portions for lamb, chicken livers and cheese, I get these acne-like bumps that turn into sores on my face. As soon as I start avoiding these foods, my skin clears up. Even though I take Genoma Derma and ticked off that I had skin problems on my SWAMI intake form, I know which foods aggravate acne for me (but SWAMI obviously didn't make the right adjustment). Sometimes you just have to avoid what you know you shouldn't be eating. |

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that getting your gut right by eating for your type is the long term solution too Chloe, adjustments needed nthe short term, but les harmful to me at least as time goes by.
I've been reading more on the cycles of the intestine and how they mature and change over a period of time. apparently it takes 5 years for a baby's gut to settle and them changes again over a number of years. so it is not so unreasonable to have to wait for a good few years to correct all the damage we do to ourselves before find the BTD.
I'm finding the biggest problem now is being almost too focused and too alert, which sound daft i know, but being able to think things through very quickly and make decision immediately is becoming perhaps tiresome for other mear mortals lol. I must admit to becoming less tolerant of other people also.
everything becoming more clear, leaves one realising the world is in much more trouble than most think.

The odd part is that the acne is showing up everywhere. I have 3 zits on my thighs!!!!! Now I admit to getting them on my back here and there, but not as much as now! I am working on giving up the coffee. I did have some this morning (UGH!) but I decided once I am out of it, I am not buying anymore |

That's the best way to do it! If it's not there, it can't tempt you. For me, the best thing to do was just force myself to not drink it no matter how much I wanted it, and after the initial "zombie period" my body recognized that not drinking coffee was better and I didn't even want it anymore. It only took a couple days; I was surprised, but for it to work I had to just stop cold and give it up completely all at once. Several times I had tried easing into it, transitioning, that didn't work at all. Good luck |

As the body gets stronger, it does work faster, so you may get some aggressive cleaning and healing. My body discharged some cysts through the skin at one point, so healing can be dramatic... |
