Ok i have just found out what blood type i am and i usually every morning have an organic egg on whole wheat toast with some cream cheese spread. Or i will have oatmeal, I cant fathom having steak for breakfast. Can anyone help me, am i allowed eggs? Any easy breakfast ideas

Many type O people here talk about having meat and greens for breakfast...  I suppose an egg with some vegetables would work well for you, although I'm not sure if it would be adequate protein for you...

Hey Mickeymouse...welcome to the forum and this way of life.  

As an O...I do eat eggs for breakfast, but not very often...mostly when I am somewhere else and it's the easiest and safest to have.  Beef or lamb are my preferences for breakfast with a large compliant salad drizzled with olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Had ground beef over a baby romaine, zucchini, celery, green onion salad this morning.   It makes my day.  I save the carbs (quinoa, millet, basmati rice, amaranth) for later in the day with more compliant salads or veggies and either with ghee or olive oil.   Mustn't forget your good fats/oils. Having basmati rice with green beans and arugula/spinach for lunch right now.    I do have a compliant fruit first thing and another one about mid afternoon.  

Give the steak/roast/beef/lamb and compliant veggies a try first thing and see how you feel.  It's wonderful to think outside the traditional breakfast box.

I go for a more traditional breakfast....cuz I really like eggs. I have 2 eggs, fried or scrambled and I try to have it with veggies. Today I just had a scrambled egg plus wellshire farms turkey sausage, but usually I throw in some spinach or onions.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

I must say that after being on BTD/SWAMI for almost a year, I still cannot get used to the idea of eating meat and veggies for breakfast. I have compliant fruits (usually half a grapefruit, a banana or an avocado), a protein shake with Dr D's protein powder for "O" and sometimes a rice cracker topped with compliant nut butter and/or a dab of ghee, scrambled eggs and sometimes a sheet of nori (seaweed). Eggs are absolutely fine for "O"s! My SWAMI gives me 7 eggs a week and I'm a happy camper   Very occasionally I would have a bite of leftover fish (salmon/tuna/sardine) if I find myself craving for it. But this doesn't happen so often. I know I'd be eating lots of veggies and animal protein later in the day so this works out fine for me.

Most Os find that it's best to eat lower carb/higher protein and to save the day's carbs for later in the day. However, not everybody has the same experience with that. You also might want to get used to the new food list first and then later shift around the portion sizes and timing. You don't have to do it all at once.

You can even spend  a week learning about the diet before making any changes at all- kind of get it all figured out before actually doing any of it.  If you're unsure about Os being allowed to eat eggs or oats, you obviously haven't spent much, if any, time actually looking at the lists of allowable foods. Spend some time studying the food list and become familiar with it before making changes, and it won't be so stressful. Give yourself permission to continue eating what you've been eating for at least a few more days while you learn about this.

Many people cut out one "avoid" per week before cutting out another. Wheat and dairy are biggies, both because they're so important to health, and because theyr'e so prevalent that they're hard to stop eating. So do one at a time. Either cut out the wheat OR the dairy for a week before tackling the other one. So have your egg, spelt toast, and cream cheese, or have the wheat toast with mozzarella cheese or butter. Eventually you'll stop eating both wheat and cream cheese.

Eggs are definitely OK, as are oatmeal, rice, and grains such as spelt and rye. My breakfast usually consists of an omellette: 2 eggs, an onion, and about 1/2 cup of frozen peas or spinach. Sometimes I eat leftovers or a smoothie (with spinach, berries,  flax, and rice protein powder) for breakfast instead.

Thank you for all your help, I think this is gonna get expensive with all the steak and stuff. And here i just bought a brand new box of oatmeal.
I dont hear alot of chicken being mentioned and I do like chicken. Is it just not recomended.

on the btd, O's can have chicken. On the gtd, gatherers should minimize it, but other types can have it. (explorerers?)

Most public libraries carry Dr, Peter D'Adamo's books. I suggest borrowing several and reading them all. If you want to buy books without using a library first, then I would suggest Live Right 4 Your Type.

Often chicken is corn fed.  Some O's don't do well on chicken because of that.

Ever since I first read ER4YT back in 1996-7, I've been having either beef, buffalo, turkey, lamb or salmon for breakfast on a regular basis.  Eggs not as much.  It's about adapting to better ways of eating for your genetic make up. In general, these are protein sources that O's do best on.  

Imho, (For Type O's on BTD or GenoType Diet) getting the bulk of our nutrients in the beginning of the day is the best way to start off the day.  Another big batch of nutrients for lunch and a much lighter, slightly more carb based dinner.

Sharing with the best of intentions.

I have eggs or leftovers from dinner, and I try to have some kind of vegetables with it.  If I eat eggs, though, I automatically want toast.     I eat breakfast late (around 11 or 11:30), so I call mine brunch.  I have my green tea early with a bit of lemon and a smidge of honey.  I find it easier to drink if I let it go cold.  On Sundays, I've been making pancakes or waffles out of compliant flours and having turkey sausage because I like a traditional Sunday breakfast.  But I think I ate too many carbs last weekend, so I'm thinking I should cut back on those, too.  I must say, eating dinner leftovers for my first meal of the day rather than typical breakfast foods, satisfies my hunger and keeps the carb cravings at bay - later in the day is when I notice that.  If I had to go out somewhere for breakfast with other people, I couldn't swear that I wouldn't make a beeline for the cheese danish.  I like eating at home now because I can maintain control.  KomonaKat is probably right about having a smaller, carby type meal in the evening, rather than the first part of the day.  That is beginning to make good sense to me.

I'm glad you mentioned that because I was thinking of making a pitcher of green tea to have over ice, like regular iced tea.  I didn't know if the healthful green tea benefits would go bad with oxidation or whatever.  I would only make enough for one day, though.  I may try that.

eggs, green beans (frozen or fresh), onion, bell pepper, parsley, paprika, turmeric, garlic all scrambled together. None of these foods are costly, and of course you can substitute. I also add mushrooms but that might raise the cost some. This is a total ben for Gatherers

Welcome to the forums Mickey I joined not to long ago myself! I personally eat steak and any green veggie I can for breakfast, but it did take me a bit to get used to it. Im not sure what part of the country youre in but Ive found that Kroger has some really great deals on meat all the time.

You might want to consider having the secretor test done down the road as O nonnies can't have oat. I used to have oat cereal for breakfast every morning and turned out it was making me sick  .

Welcome!

Stick with your current egg breakfast for now, except use spelt bread toast with ghee (or olive oil) instead of wheat with cream cheese.  After a while add good quality beef or turkey breakfast sausage.  Then you can gradually transition to having supper for breakfast.

Do a search here for breakfast.  You'll see a few older threads on this subject, started by new Os such as yourself.

Again, a word of caution: spelt is an avoid for non-secretors. While rye is fine for both secretors and non-secretors according to the typebase, for some may be it is not alright. For example, it is a black dot on my SWAMI, meaning I can only have it once in a while. This is not to confuse or discourage you, Mickeymouse, but just something to watch out for in the future when you've gotten more used to eating the BTD way and want to fine-tune and reap the best results

A couple of ideas from this Hunter (do you know your genotype?)

Quick Breakfast (I usually have either of these if I'm exercising in the morning):
* a couple of slices of chicken or turkey with some romaine leaves and walnuts.   Add some oregano, basil, olive oil or the great pesto sauce you can find in the receipe database
* small quantities of any of macadamias, walnuts, chocolate, carob, tahini, cranberries, flaxseeds, mixed with a sprinkle of cinnamon and or ginger in a small bowl with maybe a touch of water.


Regular breakfast.
* onions with any of following sauteed in rice bran oil, broccoli, peas, swiss chard, asparagus, with a couple of eggs.   wakame is a great addition, and or seasame seeds.
* any fresh fish.   Salmon or cod is great. with a few vege.    Salmon can be cold which is convenient and quick.   With pumpkin seeds, flax, walnuts...

Generally I dont do well on grains in the morning and definitely suggest skipping the rye, or anything with gluten until you figure out the genotype.   Rice may be a safe option meantime

I was surprised to find that what I thought was rye bread had whole wheat flour listed as the first ingredient.  Be Ware!

I have 2 eggs scrambled in ghee with a spoonful of fresh almond butter and a very small amount of cranberry/hot pepper jam.  Takes just a minute or two to make in the morning but it gives me the energy I need at the beginning of the day before heading off to the office.

Hello, i started this diet about a month ago and i find it very expensive but so worth it!  Shopping for new clothes last weekend has made me poor also i am now shopping twice a week as i get my food fresh! However, i have lost weight and feel great so i cant complain!

For my breakfast i eat Coco Pops with soya milk. At work, i have a lots of fruit with soya yogurt and i have lots of salad with plenty of meat for my type.  i dont have time to make dinner most nights so i have fish with rice cakes.  Or if mum makes my dinner it be meat and veg! i hope all of this sounds okay!!!!!  

Not eating bread anymore has been the main factor in losing weight, i use to eat ALOT of it!

better than those soy pops or whatever which might raise your blood sugar levels
soy is fine, provided you are a secretor......so if by any chance your weight loss comes to a halt, you know what to do next.....a secretor test

You can have cheese on spelt or oat toast instead of wheat. I found cutting out wheat was the single most significant change I noticed. My IBS has all but settled down after months of turmoil. Try cutting wheat first ..an egg 3 times a week is a good idea or any of the neutral cheeses for O's. Im a B so breakfast for me is always spelt toast with low-fat feta cheese.

MickeyMouse: I know how you feel. I ate oatmeal everyday for years and loved it. Now it's eggs just about everyday, sometimes with veggies, sometimes over easy on spelt toast, sometimes with leftover pieces of lamb.

BUT we are all unique, even among blood type O, so experiment and don't get discouraged. My sister and I are both O's but have very different tolerance levels. I can eat eggs every day, she can eat them a few times a week.

IT sounds like you've made a lot of positive changes in your diet. Congrats on the weight loss!

However, it sounds like there's still plenty you can do to make your diet even healthier. I'm not sure what's in those coco pops, but that doesn't sound like a healthy thing to be eating daily. And soy isn't really a great food for Os. When I consumed as much soy as you're eating now, it completely messed up my menstrual cycles. My type O daughters had a similar reaction. Soy is a wonderful food for As, but for Os it's really something we can have in moderate amounts, if at all. Also remember that soymilks and soy yogurts are highly processed foods, unlike traditional forms of soy such as tofu, miso, and tamari. I use wheat-free tamari (naturally brewed soy sauce) and that's the only soy I use.

If you're happy with your diet, you don't need to change anything. You're certainly welcome on this board even if you're not following the diet 100%. I'm just giving you this information so that you can improve your diet further if you want to.

Switching over from eating cereal or grains for breakfast to meat and veggies can be difficult at first. Lots of good suggestions in the posts above. Here's what I did:

~~Switch to oat bran in place of whole oats. It's just as tasty, but has less starch to spike your blood sugar. Try it without sugar: just add a little butter or ghee and a pinch of sea salt and serve with chopped toasted walnuts, almonds or pecans.

~~try Victoria's suggestion of all-rye bread to replace the whole wheat. (French Meadows makes a really good all-rye loaf if you can find it.) You might also consider making your own spelt bread. It's not hard at all; there are several spelt bread recipes in Recipe Central. Spelt is a good transition grain and tastes like wheat, only better.

~~check out some of the really tasty turkey, chicken and/or lamb sausage available in most stores (always read ingredient lists to make sure you're not buying something full of avoids). You can also easily make your own patty sausages from ground turkey, chicken or lamb. turkey or beef bacon is another option, though I wouldn't rely on them too often as they're usually full of chemicals and way too much salt.

~~Eggs are fine for breakfast. How about an omelette filled with leftover veggies from last night's dinner, along with some diced pot roast or turkey? Guaranteed tasty and good for you too.

The only 100% rye bread with no wheat that I've found is at my local Kroger on the shelf of foods imported from Germany.  It is very dark and looks like a thinly sliced brick wrapped in cellophane.  I believe it's made from a sourdough.  It has a strong flavor and is very dense.  I really like it, but I have stopped eating it because I think I have gluten problems and rye does have gluten.  Also I still have carb cravings/blood sugar issues.  If I eat bread, I'll just want more bread.  

p.s.  I love oats but they've always given me a bit of indigestion, and now I know why.  They're avoids for non-secretors.

Thank you for your messages   i will eat meat now for breakfast because even though Coco pops is rice it also contains Barley! i loved coco pops!  i will stop soya yogurt (contains Carrageenan) and soya milk (contains gum) too!  what would you suggest to go with my fruit?  

i brought sprouted wheat bread from a food store but i cant find the word essene on the packet so best not eat it!  Dont think england sells it!  

i was a bit confused when i brought the little book on Blood Type O and compared it to the Eat right for your type and found that certain foods were in different categories.  Is the food list on this site the most up-to-date because i always go to it now instead of the book?

Hi there!! Yes the food list on this site is the most up to date...
Some of the books were written quite a while ago...hence the potential for confusion, as more research has been done

I know you said you were giving them up (well done/good call) but those cocoa pops have a heap of different sugars in them, as well as other avoids....yummy little things though eh?

Check the ingredients on the sprouted wheat bread - some of them contain gluten... Was pointing that out to my daughter in LA recently as they have only changed recently &  a few ppl here got caught out...

My husband is an O but pretty sure he is a Hunter & he can tolerate little amounts of wheat/gluten - just as well as he travels a lot for work & has no choice at times...
