A meta-analysis of five case-control and two cohort studies examined the effects of soy intake on endometrial and ovarian cancer. 169,051 women and, 3516 with endometrial or ovarian cancer in the U.S., China, Italy and Japan with an average age of 54 were evaluated for their soy intake based on soy containing foods or soy isoflavone intake.
In each of the studies, women who consumed the highest dietary intake of soy had a lower risk for endometrial and ovarian cancers compared with the women who had the lowest intake.

I only eat fermented, sprouted soy foods and edamame. Does it have to be tofu or is any soy good enough? |

I think most fermented/sprouted forms are fine. I'm sure if they had pulled apart the A and ABs they'd have seen an even greater effect. |

When eating soy, especially tofu, I always felt like I was eating inert matter rather than food. Think I'll stick to green tea. |

I'm really sensitive to estrogenic foods. they wreck havoc in my body.. causing all kinds of horrible swelling.. and I get headaches from fermented soy sauce (the supposed 'good type' of soy sauce)
so no matter what studies show.. I avoid soy like the plague.. not that its not good for other people... just not for me!
I also know it causes mastitis in Milk animals. so no soy for my Milkers either!

Well, it sits very well with me. But I just do the edamame. I have some miso and tempeh I have to try.
Soy Milk usually always has junk in it I don't want. And I haven't had tofu for a while, but I think you can get good, organic stuff. This AB is not afraid of it. I don't eat it all the time though. But regularly. |

I have only just begun looking into this blood type diet stuff. I am ordering the book... hopefully today. and will be getting the swami software soon also. I became interested in the blood type diet, because after reading a list someone had of 'avoids' and 'goods' for blood type O, I learnt that I was already intuitively starting to eat like that. and then I watched a little segment on epigenetics (is that how you spell it?) on Nova.. which got me really curious. Previously I have always gotten in debates with a family friend. he says that all your health is genetic, and he goes on with the same story of how he knows these people. they have 2 sons, one looks like the mom the other like the dad. the one who looks like the mom has the same health issues as the mom, and the one who looks like the dad has the same issues as the dad.. I have always faught back saying, it doesn't work that way. you can overcome any 'health issue' with diet and lifestyle changes.. he doesn't agree... anywho. now I know we are both right, lol previously I had completely disregarded genetics... now I am starting to see the big picture with genetics and epigenetics.. and I'm really excited! ~Brittni p.s I will get my secretor status determined soon. |

In case you're avoiding gluten or wheat...soy sauce contains wheat. Tamari is wheat free and gluten free. |

Tamari is difficult to find where I live. But I avoid it mostly because my liver cannot process the toxins it leaves behind. |

This soy update is a much needed info for those who are entering perimenopause. However, some of the studies on soy give me an impression that the soy debate has far from been done - it may benefit one part of the body at the expense of risking the parts otherwhere . Again moderation + type(BT/GT) is the key in the use of soy, I think. A danger forseen is half avoided. |

Agree....I also. There's was a month that discovered Edamame (sp?) and was eating pretty regularly...well I ended up in the OB with lumps in my breasts and terrible pre-menstrual symptoms...Terrible!! I avoid it like the plague myself... That's just me...with all due respect Dr. |

Gayle,
Not to denigrate your observances, but you'd have to eat about a sofa's worth of edamame daily to get anything near a dose of anything serious.
But anyway, my observances are really for type As, so type Os (either nonnies or secretor status unknown) needn't go on about soy. It isn't really recommended for you anyway. |
