Exciting Topic I know.

Here's the thing, last week I ran out of my food so I ate about 3 oz of steak UGH!!! used to love it now I'm suffering knowing the difference of how my body has felt for the past month and now I'm still struggling almost a week later.

I made the black bean soup in the book Excellent by the way and I've had salmon with a big salad, I eat oatmeal and fruit most breakfasts. Could the black beans also be locking me up? I drink coffee and green tea and water that's it. I've tried flax seed oil on my food but what little I've passed it's been more like balls than normal BM. So I know to much info but I'm hoping for a solution to get back to the normal twice a day I was experiencing in the beginning of starting the diet and not feeling all bloated and blah.

"more like balls than normal BM" was my experience of the A type diet for the first month; I assume it was a de-toxing process.
It also happens to me sometimes on the GTD, and again I assume it is due to various toxins creeping into my diet without my noticing---so easy to do, especially when you eat out a bit.

I haven't gone out to eat yet, I've been so careful. If this is from the beef alone gross I'm never touching it again. If it's a result of the black beans though I need to figure it out since it's like the only bean on the list I like.

But your right it could be something that I'm unaware of. But i've only been eating the Highly beneficials. I've lost 4" off my waist in a month since I've started. So I'm having good progress and don't want to feel like this.

Oh boy I just read the ingredients on my veggie broth and it has tomato an potato in it UGH!!! I guess I'll have to make my own well it wasn't as great a week as I thought I was having. Back to the drawing board.

Well thank you all for your support, I still need to find a way to unclog the drain so to speak but hopefully I can do that naturally.

Only black beans? Oh my you need a few good recipes to fix that.

Have you had Great Northern beans or white beans?
Oh so yummmy..

One trick with beans is to soak them over night changing the water a few times, then cook them with kombu.

add ground linseed to your fruit in the morning or smoothie or salad or whatever rocks your boat!
2 TB at least.....and make sure you drink your water throughout the day......no avoids is a must!! lol

Well prune juice does the trick for me plus it is on the beneficials list so twice as nice!

I would not have coffee again till the problem has past. I often find coffee to be extra dehydrating for me, even if I have water after...

Hi Holly,

I've been on the BTD for about a month; when I first started the diet I was amazed at how regular I became.    But, the longer I'm on the diet I too am suffering with constipation.  I recall having this problem the last time I tried the diet about ten years ago; I gave it up because I didn't have the patience to ride it out.  It seems that I read somewhere that us A's are typically the ones who will experience some difficulty in the beginning with the diet.  I think it's because as you stated, you are and A trying to live in an O world, and A's have the most drastic food changes.  We are supposed to be vegetarian!  Who knew?    I also know what you mean about the red meat, that's what got me to start back up on this diet. Over the last couple of years I noticed that every time I ate red meat I became very sluggish, bloated, and severely constipated.  In fact, the older I get the less I like foods I used to love and the less they agree with me.  That's when I started realizing there was a connection to the BTD diet and the foods A's are supposed to avoid and decided to try the diet again.  The advice on senna is really good; senna is a natural laxative and will not make you miserable like some of those other over the counter laxatives will.   I find that taking a tablespoon of olive oil a day helps too.

Welcome Leoswench and Che to the forum and BTD way of life.  Great advice above.  What about getting out for some walks?  That helps to get the bowels moving for me if I am sluggish.  And, yes, A's are supposed to be harder to get into sync than others with detox and digestion.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you so much everyone and I will check out the links after I post here. I had a great morning thanks to flax seed oil I think it had to have been finally kicked in. I used more than I had in the past and it got everything moving. I feel so much better. Probably to conservative with it. When I have a salad I only use olive oil on it so I do get some lubricant from there as well.

I used to take Cal/Mag supplements at night but worried they were what was causing my what used to be normal constipation. I have Hoshimoto hypothyroidism so it's always been normal for me to go days without and I just accepted it but now I know my diet contributed to that also. My dad was a butcher so we ate steak 3-4 nights a week. Baked potato the works. So I continued that type of diet into my later years.

I must say I was worried I wouldn't be able to make the changes in the beginning but it's amazing when you start to feel so much better and the inches are coming off how modivated you become to trying new foods.   I haven't felt this good with the increased energy in years.

This forum helps too, to have people who have been around a while to keep you from giving up when you hit a speed bump.

Thank you again, I'm sure we will be hearing from each other in the future.

I've heard many times that senna is really hard on some people, so you might want to 'dip your toe in first' if you're going to try it.  

You could do like an O gentleman I know............eat some yogurt and drink some milk (in your case, I guess it would be whole milk, as yogurt is a neutral). In other words something that will irriate your bowels. IMHO anyway. He knows yogurt and milk are avoids for O's and had been avoiding them. THEN he read that milk is supposed to make probiotics multiply, so surmised that if he ate some yogurt and then drank some milk, he'd be helping himself. IMHO, I think he's having more 'movement' because he's lactose intolerant to some degree. We all know what that'll do to ya.   I shared that info w/ him, but he disagrees. So, we'll see what happens down the road.

Hi, welcome. When I ate beef, I'd feel great..at first. then the next day, my weight would go up and my joints would start aching. The more meat I ate, the more my weight would increase and I'd have joint, muscle pain. The only meat I can eat is turkey..
BTW, the one thing that always worked on me..is figs. (I don't mean Fig Newtons, I mean dried or fresh figs) If I didn't have any figs..I'd eat an apple. You know apples are like the miracle fruit. They help and improve digestion, constipation, keep doctors away , and make a great pie.

Fruit is great for this issue I agree. I've never tried figs but apples and plums do help.

turkey tastes better anyway. I need to find a good flower for rue so I can make turkey and gravy but i have to say I will sadly miss the mashed potato's or eat just a dab. I can give up beef easily it's the potato's that hurt. I love all of them. I did talk to my local health food store and they have several choices on flours so I just need to go check it out and experiment.

You can try the following: Soak 3-4 figs overnight in water. In the morning, warm the figs and the water slightly (to body temperature). Then drink the fig-water and eat the figs. It works really well.

I second the idea of magnesium.  I use CALM brand.  It fizzes up when you put it in  hot water.  The next morning.....wheee!

Beef does the same thing to me as it does to y'all.  Wheat used to.
