I'm interesting in starting the Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type diet and I've purchased and started reading the book. My blood type is B and from reading the information that effects me, I have a couple of questions. I enjoy using 'I can't believe it's butter' spray and Splenda in my foods, if I continue to use them, will that create a problem for my blood type and hinder my weight lost on this diet? I did not read any information about these two products in the book. Please advise. Thanks.

I don't know your type, but you could check the type of fat in the spray...  Mike may be familiar with it and know it is a poison/toxin for all types...
All artificial sugars are toxin for all types...  The agave syrup is a natural sweetener from the agave cactus...

Hi Type D - Vicky,

I Can't Believe It's Butter is a soy butter spray. I've had agave syrup and it's actually very good but since the book never mentioned anything about Splenda or I can't believe it's butter spray, I thought it might be ok but wasn't sure. Any suggestions on snacks or meals for Type B people?

Hi Vicky.

Soy and B's don't mix.

Splenda (sucralose) is untested and therefore technically considered neutral.

sucralose, artificial sweetener which is a
chlorinated sucrose derivative.

Hello Vicky, nice to meet you

If you go to the top of this page, you'll see a link with a home symbol called 'Forum Main Page'. Click on that link and it will take you to a listing of all the different forums on this message board. Scroll down to the forum called 'Cook Right 4 Your Type'. You'll find all kinds of threads about meals, snacks, what's good for each blood type, what isn't.

You can also check at Recipe Central for ideas. That link is also located at the top of this page.

As for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, I think you would be much better off to use an olive oil spray, or perhaps some ghee (clarified butter). As Lloyd says, soy and Bs don't mix. And it's better in general to use natural fats, even if they're saturated; it's easier for your body to process them.

Ghee is really easy to make--check the 'ghee' thread in the Cook Right forum if you're interested.

I tend to stay away from all artificial sweeteners. They are not tested enough, they are often unstable and break down in the presence of heat or when being digested, and they can cause a lot of health problems in people who are already battling with weight loss or chronic illness.

As Lola suggested, you might try agave nectar as a sweetener for any recipe that won't be subjected to high temperatures. Stevia is another natural sweetener, as is vegetable glycerine. These three items are low on the glycemic index. Some people like them, some don't--the best way to find out if you like them is to use them as you would sugar or honey in your recipes, and taste the results.

You can also use concentrated fruit juice or evaporated cane juice as replacement sweeteners, but they are higher on the GI.

You might find that as you continue on the BTD, your tastes will change and the need for sweeteners and butter starts to come way down. That's great when you're working on weight loss--less calories from fat and simple sugars, more calories from fresh veggies, fruit and small amounts of whole grains, meat and some dairy.

Hope this is helpful to you. Welcome to the board, I look forward to your posts

Hello Vicky, and welcome to the Forum,
If you give the blood type diet a good chance, you won't be sorry.  Not only does it eventually regulate the weight to the ideal level, it will also begin to make you healthier, the longer you follow the program.

After you have become familiar with the ER4YT book, try and get a copy (most libraries have them) of the LR4YT book.  It works in detail with the secretor status.  Knowing your secretor status can make a big difference in getting the excess weight off and keeping it off.  I turned out to be a non-secretor, and several things in my eating plan had to be changed (for the better, I might add).

Glad to have another type B around!

p.s.  Regarding those two items you mentioned, whenever a "food" is in question, you are pretty safe in assuming that if it is a processed food, it is not your friend.  As much as possible, try and build your diet around whole, natural, fresh foods that you prepare yourself.
If you are really attached to the sprays, I would go for the olive oil spray instead of a soy-based one.  But that Butane carrier is not such a great thing to be using.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me not pass you by in quest
of some rare and perfect tomorrow.

Hi Dieter,

I use real butter, olive oil, grapeseed oil, or walnut oil.  Get to know them. I don't know where you shop but the new Wal-Marts are pretty common and they carry all of these good fats for us.

Take it slow and start with the book you have.  The more compliant you are the more you will see the changes. As you see the positive changes you will probably want to keep exploring all of the work by Dr. D.

Don't overwhelm your self from the beginning. Lean into it. Please take Dr. D's advice in the book and slowly incorporate this information into your life. We are lucky as Bs because there are many substitutes for what we must change out in our recipes.

If you are not a "from scratch" kind of person like so many of us then you will need to do a lot of reading of labels.  At first it will take you A LOT longer in the grocery stores. Allow for that time so that you do not feel rushed or stressed.  There is no score board for whoever gets there faster.

Most pre-packaged food "meals" (my guess is 95%) will not be 100% compliant.  Just do the best that you can.

If you do not see big changes after one month or so, then you probably need to get the "Live Right 4 Your Type" book & your secretor status checked.  Some of the foods are different then.

Statistically speaking, you are most likely a secretor and that means the book you have will be a good start.

I did not start coming and participating in this forum until I had been on the diet for 1 year and had completely changed my life.

I probably would have been overwhelmed by the amount of information available here on this forum and run run run away...

So take it easy and be proud that you are taking steps toward real individualized health.

funny you say this, cause I feel the same about my diet, first BTD and now GTD.....everything can be substituted, if one tries!

Hi Lola,

Yeah...you are a lucky O.  My sister & mother are Os. They aren't so lucky (dairy and white flour lovers).

What's so weird is that I didn't care for dairy especially cheeses before BTD.
