Please - has anyone any ideas for eating energy foods while walking quite some way. Currently eat pears but it means stopping and they are messy to eat and bulky to carry. Seeds are not go due to false teeth! anything with sugar in is also out and of course all the deratives - anything with wheat is also out - all the fruit bars over here in England seem to have at least one ingredient that is no good. Also dont want anything that puts too much weight on like dried fruit etc - all ideas appreciated

hardboiled eggs ?

Homemade fruitbar - could be an option
- I know that dry fruit can be a a problem- but If you eat them in moderately amounts they should be fine .

For 10 bars I use

250 grams dry fruit use whatever fits you- I used abricot and carnbeeries last
250 gram nuts ( I used pecan and macadamia last
a bit of oat or millet flakes around 100 ml to dry them up- add fibres

I mix all in foodprocessor ( the nuts are so fine that it shouldnīt be a problem with false teeth - divide into 10 portion and make into bars
dry them in the oven  at 50 C or in the sun - over the fire place
- easy to eat I use them at work where I walk a lot and have no time to stop.

dried fruit...less messy

get yourself a dehydrator.....all you need to do is slice your compliant fruit very thin and let dry while you sleep....no added sugar or sulfur there, and you get all the nutrients.

just made loads of chips, for the crunch!
simply placed fresh spinach leaves on my dehydrator trays.....voila!

Thanks to you all for your ideas - have bought a dehydrator this morning - can't wait to try it and also all the ingredients for the fruit bars - we carry on and learn stuff all the time with the help of some very nice friends.

Well - have made the first batch of nut plus fruit bars this afternoon - not quite got them right yet - I used dried apricots, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and pecans with millet flakes to bind - they have just gone in the oven after some baking and shall leave them overnight with the oven now switched off. They were quite crumbly and I dont think I ground them enough in the food processor as they still had bits in them  - it made thirteen little patty type bars - they taste good though - the next walking holiday is not until October so I intend to practice and get them perfect before them!

Next job the dehydrator when it arrives!!

Mix 1 tsp of chia seeds in water or juice.  let sit for 30 minutes and then take down.  This will give you energy all day... it takes about 6 weeks to build up in your system.

Jerky is dried meat.  You slice meat very thinly (this is a lot easier with a very sharp knife and semi frozen meat), rub in spices for flavour and dry using a dehydrator.

Does that mean it takes 6 weeks to start giving you energy?  Or 6 weeks to give all-day energy?  Or 6 weeks before you get tired of chia?

Put a few drops of water in them and they'll stick together better.
