I soak them to make them more digestible. If I eat too many non-soaked nuts, my stomach gets upset.
I soak them in filtered water, but some people say that you should soak them in salt water. I personally don't like the salt water, so I just soak them in the plain (filtered) water.

It could be worse, I'm 6' and I've always weighed between 143 and 154, that is the past few years I've weighed around 154, with the extra being on the waist.
Anyway after 6 or 8 months of Taiji, or t'ai chi, I weighed about 143 again, still with a bit of belly. Now I'm about 136.

I think it's not rocket science what we need to do, it's not easy either, just easy to understand.
We need to eat more, and eat in a way that encourages weight gain, the book gives some good ideas on that. We also need good exercise.

Personally I want to compliment the Taiji with some gym, but only after some more time on this diet so I can get into the swing of eating more veggies, the meat I always ate lots of and lean.

Anyway good luck, enjoy the process and don't expect fast results nor put off happiness until then.
