I have ADD I NEED my coffee to keep me sane.

Have you tried the black cocoa concoction that Victoria talks about? Basically, it's green tea, with a teaspoon or two of unsweetened cocoa powder and a dollop of either lecithin or ghee (I use ghee). It's not exactly the same taste as black coffee, but it's similar, and oh so good. Coffee for O's is a baddie, and if I were an O, I would move to eliminate it sooner than later. My $0.02.

I have ADD too, but stimulants didn't work out well for me.  At first they did help somewhat, but the benefit wore off gradually.  When I finally quit taking them, I slept 10-12 hrs a day, plus naps, for 2 weeks.  That was my body catching up on all the rest I needed because the stims allowed me to overexert myself.  I'm sure that quitting coffee won't be so dramatic (I hope not!) since it's not as potent, but be assured that BTD is much better at curing ADD than ANY drug out there.

With that much extra weight, It's entirely possible that you may have some seriously gunked-up intestines, and need some quality toilet time.  I'm picturing a pretty sweet layer of rotted wheat, dairy, and other grains nicely locked up to your internal tissues, over the years.  I would suggest you buy some Deflect for O's, and start in on its cleansing power immediately.

Also, some astragalus, rose hips, and zinc/copper will activate your immune system to kill off the hordes of bacterial overgrowth you probably have in your bowels as well.

Beyond this, are you getting any exercise whatsoever?

Finally, try taking a teaspoon of unroasted walnut oil and a teaspoon of flax oil, twice a day for a few days.  See if that doesn't slap up your metabolism and bowel movements a bit.

Post-finally, try buying some pure peppermint leaves, and make a good, strong tea from that.  Buy the tea bags and everything... Replace your coffee with this tea.  I hear that peppermint is good for the pancreas.  Also, the menthol action of the peppermint will jolt you into alertless just as much as the coffee will.  I should know; I've switched to it myself.

Lol Ron, you don't sugar-coat it -- YUCK! [Of course, the sugar-coating would ruin the advice for nonnies]  Seriously, that sounds like great advice, even if it is a bit ... icky.  But it's very true, garbage does tend to collect in the intestines over the years, adding weight and interfering with proper digestion.  Clean that gunk out, and you might find your weight problem AND your acid reflux cleared up.

What helped me to get my appetite under control (after 15+ yrs of junky nutrition) was a whole food vitamin/mineral supp. I take 3 times/day, an omega 369 supp/once a day, & a coral calcium supp./once a day.  I realize the supp. suggestions might differ for Os & I've never tried Dr. D's supps, but this regimen really helped me with my cravings for greasy foods & sweets.  Then sticking to the BTD was easy!  I bought these supps on the internet & they are very GOOD quality.  Nothing I ever found in the supermarket ever affected my appetite in the same way.  Why not try Dr. D's supps for Os?

When my weight loss has stalled and I'm eating mainly beneficials with the correct portion sizes, I can usually look to (my lack of) exercise as the catalyst. And as Captain Janeway says, you have to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight.

If you have ADD, your adrenals are fried.  If you NEED coffee, your adrenals are fried.  You'll need extra B vitamins, A & D, lots of minerals: Ca, Mag, & trace.  And lots of good food: beneficial fats, proteins, carbs and veggies.  Eat 5 times a day - this is big.
I agree w/ Ron-o-non: Deflect is great for boosting metabolism & helping your gut.  I would add Polyflora too.
And lastly: Rhodiola!!!!! (Catechol)
For me, it worked best to take licorice (with glycyrrhizin) for adrenal support along with the rhodiola.
It takes time to recover from years of abusing your body with dieting, or eating stuff that you're allergic to (like wheat, gluten, dairy, etc), or abusing caffeine and sugar, but it can be done.  And you won't lose weight until your hormones are balanced.  How long it takes depends on how bad a shape you are in. I've been working on it for 3 years, and with the supplements listed, I'm finally feeling like I'm back in the land of the living.
Remember: rhodiola!!!!
Good luck!

So how do I find out how my adrenals are doing?
Does the doctor just run a test? I have a physical coming up.
