Rice Dream makes vanilla ice cream but I noticed carageenan in the list of ingredients.   Does anyone know of a non-dairy ice cream that's more BTD acceptable?  It's for my husband who is Type A, I don't crave that treat amymore but he'd like to continue having it if it's not too bad for him...God bless him, he's really trying hard to comply.  He has given up wheat completely but every so often he does crave ice cream.

I'm extremely interested in any ice cream advice. . . it is the one dessert that I miss, and I love, love, love ice cream! (In moderation, of course).  Please if anyone knows of any ice cream acceptable for O's, I am anxiously awaiting your reply.

For a type O blend some really ripe bananas with some cocoa powder then partially freeze. Optionally add vanilla, or something similar, maple syrup, etc. and top with chopped nuts, choc. chips, ground flax seed, etc.

It really provides a creamy texture similar to ice cream. I make this in bulk when ripe bananas are on sale at the store and freeze, then my older son take it out to half-way thaw when he wants some in the evening.

I eat the soy delicious. I don't have the carton here with me but I am sure it has advoids as well. It is close to impossible for me to find foods without an avoid in it. I do the best I can but sometimes I just eat a food as a treat here and there. It is still better than dairy.

My favorite which is creamy is turtle tracks, choc cherry virvia??, and choc fudge brownie. Also the vanilla, choc, and strawberry are good. ( I only buy the pint size and it is summer you know).

I am sorry this may not be the answer you were looking for but you would probably have to make your own to find a compliant ice cream and I couldn't find a non dairy ice cream recipe when I looked.

Thanks buzy Bee for the Soy suggestion.  It sounds delicious, but unfortunately those of us with hypothyroidism are strongly advised to avoid any soy products, so it's one more ingredient that I scan for to make sure I don't get any.

The banana freeze sounds pretty good and I will definitely give it a try.  Banana's are very high in sugar and causes blood sugar spikes, so I will eat this as an every now and then treat, but at least it's a doable treat!

Thank you!

I found low sugar, low carb or sugar free ice creams as great alternatives while monitoring blood sugar.  Even with those, I still only ate them in moderation, but will try giving them up for BTD.

Probably, but I only learned what an "avoid" was a few days ago.

Do you like sorbet?  You could easily make compliant sorbet yourself using vegetable glycerin if you prefer a sweeter flavour....

Don, I'll try your recipe, it sounds pretty good. The biggest selling point is that your son likes it.  If a young person thinks it's ok, my husband might think so also.

Sorry, I said in that post that it was for type O.

Banana's are a type A secretor avoid.

I made a rather nice ice cream for my daughter
using eggyolks, honey and fatty almondmilk- boiled it together like a custardcream - and let it freeze when cold in a ice cream machine- it was nice with fruit on top
Sorbet made from frozen fruit and honey or icing sugar is another safe bet.

Rex,
for your A hub and even for you if you can have soy from time to time.....
add chunks of partially frozen fruit...and turn on the food processor......to that add cold not frozen silken tofu....the consistency is just like icecream.

Lola, thanks for that yummy recipe! My O daughter gets her wisdom teeth out tomorrow( they are painful, and she can't even open her mouth wide anymore), so I am going to make her some peach/soy "ice cream"!

Don, thanks for the correction regarding bananas being an avoid for my type A husband.  It sounded so delicious that I wasn't thinking about that either.  I will try blending the fruit & silken tofu though.  He might be satisfied with that too.

Yes, Don, you definitely did say in your intial post that the banana recipe was for a Type O person.  But it was still very kind of you to go back & re-post to make sure that I understood that it was not appropriate for my type A husband.  Boy, oh boy, I really need to get my brain in gear.  I'd better order that Youthful Pack from NAP soon!

Lola...I just made myself the silken tofu with fruit...it's incredibly delicious!  I added blueberries & bananas with stevia for sweetness & a splash of unsweetened cherry juice.  Thanks...what a superb treat!

Rice is neutral for A's.
So every once in awhile I cook long grain white rice and add mostly some type of berries, stevia and dash of sea salt.
Put it in the fridge and it is a passable ice cream.
Occasionally add a little ghee to rice.

Oh yes I forgot and don't know how to edit.
I put it in blender and then in fridge.
