I went to the movies tonight and I ate popcorn.  I am so disappointed in myself.  I've been doing so good.   What are some good going to the movie snaks that are good for type O's ?

On the positive side I came up with a good, a very good recipe for Italian sausage using ground beef.  My husband was very pleased.  He loves pizza and was having a very hard time giving it up.  I made a total type O pizza, and it was great.  He's a type O also.

Hey, 's okay, we all blow it every once in awhile.  An occasional "avoid" isn't going to do you in.  Did you take some Deflect or other lectin-blocker (like bladderwrack) afterward?

I don't think there are any good movie snacks for O's - at least, not that you could buy at the movie theater snack counter.  Except for water, probably everything you could get would be an avoid, one way or another.  

Movies at home, though:  that's different!  Here are a couple of ideas:

1.)  Crumbled rice cakes with nutritional yeast.  Take your rice cake, crumble it up, heat it in a bit of butter, sprinkle with nutritional yeast (and garlic and onion, if you like), and voila!  You have a nice, buttery, almost cheesy and very satisfying popcorn replacement.  

2.)  Dark chocolate-drizzled walnuts.  Chop up some walnuts, warm up some dark chocolate; lay chopped walnuts on wax paper; drizzle; allow to cool in fridge.  

3.)  Dried fruits, especially the beneficial cherry.

4.)  An O-compliant snack bar.  NAP has a couple that I hear are good.



And, hey, are you going to share that ground beef Italian sausage recipe, or what?

I love to share. †Here's the recipe:

† † † † † † † † † † † † † † †BEEF ITALIAN SAUSAGE

1 †tsp ground black pepper (optional )

1 †tsp dried parsley

1 †tsp Italian-style seasoning

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

3/4 tsp crushed anise seeds ( I used whole fennel seed )

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp dried minced onion

2 †tsp salt

2 †lb lean ground beef

DIRECTIONS;

1. †In a small bowl, combine all the seasonings and mix well.

2. †Place the gr. beef in a large bowl and add the spice mix to it. †Mix thoroughly with your hands.
† † Because lean beef can be tough I add about 1/2 cup X-virgin olive oil to the mixture to
† † tenderize the meat. †It works great.

3. †Refridgerate for at least 24 hrs so the flavors can absorbe

Try toasting those rice cakes just a little before crumbling.  It brings out the nutty, toasty flavor and aroma.  I like Lundberg Mochi rice cakes best of all!

For my pizza crust I just used my bread machine recipe for a 2lb loaf of bread, but set it to just make dough.  I separated the dough into 4 parts and rolled them fairly thin, spread them with olive oil, put about a Tbl spoon of olive oil in a pizza pan, then baked them at 425 degrees F for 5 minutes.  Then you can either freeze them or make pizza.  I used organic spelt flour from Dakota Prairie organic flours.  Their white four is the best I've ever used.

For the sauce I can only hope I can duplicate it.  I used a small can of organic tomato paste, put in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, Italion seasoning organic sugar all to taste.  It still tasted too tomato pasty so after searching my cupboards I found a jar of organic Prego spagetti sauce Tomato and Basil, so I just kept adding that until the texture and the taste were what I was looking for,  It was pretty good.  I hope I can do it again.

I used farmer cheese and my home- made Italian sausage, also chopped onion and pineapple.  I baked them in a 425 degree oven for 15 min.  The crust wasn't exactly like delivery, but it was very good.  My husband loved it.  He took cold pizza to work with him for lunch.

Hope yours turns out as good or better than mine.  I used an aluminum pizza pan, ( not ideal ), so a darker pan might brown the crust faster.  Let me know how yours turns out.

I do that also with spelt but then use fresh shnippled garlic, onions,tuna, herbes de provence, fresh
cutted tomatoes.....mozzarella, green olives, and other AB compatible..toppings, depends  which is my mood ...........15 minutes into the oven....sooooo yummy

Cynthia- your recipes sound so good, will try.  But I have a question about the Prego, Isn't there high fructose corn syrup in the organic Prego Tomato & Basil, I know it's in the traditional?

Ee Dan, I just checked the label, and they use organic sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.  I forgot to check it before I used it, but I must have checked it before I bought it, or I don't think I would have bought it.

Popcorn at the movies.  Every time I go I have withdrawal twinges.  So many years of being conditioned that you canít watch a movie without popcorn.  Then at work, one pops a bag then another then another and the smell fills the office.  I am proud to say that I have finally overcome popcorn temptation.  Some avoids are harder to give up than others, but we are strong (most of the time).  I have since become a rice cake addict.

Good for you!  I thought I had over come thinking I had to eat anything at all at the movies, but that night the pop corn smelled soooooooo good.  I do like the rice cake idea, with butter on it, or ghee would be better.  I think I'll give it a try next time.
