I've heard on the boards and other places that soy protein isolate is bad...unfortunately, it's in almost every processed food containing soy. Can someone give me a clue on why it's bad, if it is?

soy gets  a bad rap in body building circles because of it's low BV (biological value) and it lack of methionine which is good for protein synthesis but they are assuming it's assimilated at the same rate for all blood types

I am talking about Soy Isolate....Isolate means the protein is isolated out of the soy leaving the carbohydrate behind

There have been some statements from Dr. D about less refined soy products being better for A's, such as fresh or frozen soybeans, tofu and miso being healthier than soy burgers and soy powder.

Gotcha! But for those of us who wish to add protein to our smoothies (A secretors anyway), would you recommend the fermented soy powder over the soy isolate? Currently I'm using brown rice powder, and I may try the egg white powder in the future.

Like I said, I'm quite a food Purist, so I aim for the most whole version of any food that I eat.  I eat whey instead of whey protein isolate, and make my yogurt from whole milk instead of fat reduced milk.  I think of soy protein isolate as a processed version of soy, meaning that you are not getting a whole food.  I'm not an A, so this is only speculation.  Any choices should be made based upon what foods make you feel good and improve your health and well being.  The fermented soy protein SOUNDS like a good idea.  Please let me know if you try it or get any info which helps you decide one way or the other, because I tend to recommend it to A's that I know.

Soy protein isolate is a highly refined byproduct of extracting soybeans.

I would favor organic and/or gmo free soy protein isolate if one desires to consume this food item since soybeans and corn are two of the main gmo crops.

Non-gmo soy isolate protein powder is what I've been buying, but I don't think I'm going to buy anymore.

If I need to put soy protein into my fruit smoothie, I'm going to use silken tofu instead (non-gmo, of course).

It's good to think closely about what we eat.  And it's sometimes hard to change, especially if it makes for more work.  I hope you are pleased with your new soy "protein".  Many people have mentioned loving silken tofu in their smoothies.  (all A's! )

Adding 1/4 - 1/2 cup of organic fresh cooked soybeans (yellow, green, or black), organic tofu or silken tofu can add protein to your smoothies; using the these 'whole' forms of the soybean would be a more life sustaining, energizing protein option.

Thanks for bringing this up.  I had just purchased a non-gmo, organic, fermented soy protein powder, but will be going to tofu in future instead... once this is all used up, that is.

I used some silken tofu in my smoothie yesterday, but could taste it, even through the berries...perhaps it's the brand. I usually buy the kind that comes in the little boxes, but DH did the shopping...
