On the weekend I made a trip to a larger city (Sudbury) to the south of me and happened to purchase some walnut oil.  I had never tried it before and thought that it was about time I did.  This morning for breakfast I made buffalo burgers (another city purchase) and had a large green salad in which I drizzled a wee bit of walnut oil and lemon juice.  Well...what a wonderful taste.  And...as a nonnie...it is a beneficial.

Just had to share.

debra+, will you please give me an idea of how much oil you use on an average day? Also how much ghee? I am a little confused about the amount that I should be using. I am looking forward to a trip to the HF store tomorrow to get some walnut oil too.

I absolutely love walnut oil. Actually prefer it in my salad dressing because it doesn't coagulate when refrigerated. I also use it when making walnut butter. And it's a bennie for me. I like evoo, too, just not for everything.

I don't think so....at least...I don't remember.... and you know how my memory is. †NOT. † Hey...no need for apologies girl...now when you come here I can serve it to you. † †And...bought some of that white chocolate for you in the city when I was there. †Now I am all set for you. † What day do you arrive?

Dewdrop...actually, I don't think I use enough oils...especially the olive. †I seem to be using more ghee which has not been helping me (weight wise) as I tend to over indulge in it. †Sooooooo yummilicious. †Oils I try to drizzle just a bit on my foods. †Not quite sure how much as most of the time I don't measure. † I guess I should. †I did for a while about a year ago. †Too impatient for it.

And...after just looking it up again in Live Right...oils for O nonnies is supposed to be 3-5 times per week for me.  Hmmm...I have a salad at least once a day and some kind of oil on them and take flax seed oil almost daily.    Plus the ghee...maybe I better start tweaking.  Or not.

3-5 times per week seems like such a small amount....think I eat oil or ghee 3-5 times per day, which is why I was wondering how much you and others ate. Guess I will need to cut down...very sad.

Maybe it was a typo like the fruits...should've been per day. †One can always dream.

I agree. Walnut oil is a keeper, Debra!

For a change, I use walnut oil + walnuts instead of olive oil in baking spelt bread.
A half/half mix of walnut and olive oil in salad dressings is also wonderful. And it stretches the precious walnut oil....
Walnut bread together with a fresh green salad dressed with the 50% walnut oil is one of my favourite lunches.

Oh...good idea, eh with the walnut oil and the olive oil.  And you people stop teasing with the breads.

And Dewdrop...I wonder how dark 99% chocolate would be with walnut oil?  hmmmm.

The portion size is 1 Tablespoon...  My guess is that most individual salads do not have 1 T of oil...  If you only use 1 teaspoon of oil per salad, you could have 3 times the frequency - all within the limits...

A little one teaspoon drizzle of walnut oil over a fresh salad is a nice change from evoo, flaxseed oil, and other delicate culinary oils.

I have not used walnut oil for awhile; it is a nice beneficial oil for many individuals to be used with uncooked foods, with cooled foods, with making dressings, with adding to recipes, with steamed vegetables, and with fresh salads.
