sorbet, sorbet, sorbet - try the gelati places but you want a dairy-free version. Sometimes we are lucky to find lemon (just juice, water, sugar & sometimes egg white). Make your own - google for recipes. Granita is chunky sorbet you can make without an icecream machine.
We've had different blended fruits, sugar syrup & lemon juice in a cheap icecream machine for lots of diff flavours. Two simple recipes below:
Lemon Sorbet
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup lemon juice
5 tablespoons lemon zest
In medium saucepan, heat water and sugar until dissolved. Bring to a boil, simmer 2 mins and leave to cool. Add lemon juice and zest to sugar syrup. Chill. Freeze in ice cream machine.

Strawberry Sorbet (haven't tried this one yet - using the icecream machine is easy)
1-quart fresh strawberries
-cup frozen apple juice concentrate
2-tbsp lemon juice
Puree all ingredients in a food processor. Pour into a bowl, cover, and freeze for 3 or 4 hours
Remove the bowl from freezer about every 45 minutes and puree again for a smooth consistency. Sit sorbet at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.

If you have issues with sugar, might experiment with pear juice or grape juice instead of sugar syrup. Have seen mention of freezing silken tofu and chunks of fruit, then blitz in food processor, with glycerin for sweetener.

Chill the Champion Juicer parts for 30-45 minutes in the refrigerator.  Put frozen ripe bananas through the Champion Juicer (with the solid plate) for soft icecream!  Perfect just as it is!  For best taste, do not use over ripe bananas.

Hi Henriette,
Hope u're well ?

what about frozen yogurt for us B's ?
That's supposed to be fine, I beleive ?

Just wondering if the ones they make at the Dairy Queens and Ice cream shops r really just THAT: blended frozen yogurt and various frozen fruits (depending on the flavors that we chose)...
Thanks

I make a smoothie with banana, frozen mango and pineapple juice--no ice, no "milk" stuff.  Just put in a blender and mix it up, nice and thick.

The best thing you can do for yourself is get an icecream maker. I've got one on layaway right now, should have it by June. You can make sorbets and granitas (as mentioned in the posts above), you can make dairy-free ice cream, goat's-milk ice cream, etc. You can have loads of fun trying new recipes and creating your own.

Also, smoothies really are delicious when the hot weather hits. I love love LOVE blueberry-banana smoothies. Use frozen bananas and a little ice if you want a thick consistency. A little nut butter (almond works really well) adds creaminess without resorting to dairy. I use carob powder for a rich malty flavor too.

actually you do not freeze the tofu, you just add it to the frozen fruit in the processor...........tastes great!

Yep -
I was just thinking about a creamy type of icecream I made for the Os last year-
I must admit that almond cream taste better than tofu and soy - maybe beacuse Ia B ?

Us lucky Bs can have cream as well

and I must admit that I dont make a fuss about cream for my healthy O  during summer. She seem to have absolutely no sideaffects to small amounts of cram - while regular milk witll bring her eczema out in no time.

Hello to all!!

Just wondering: I'm soon travelling to Italy for a short visit to my friends and family.  I would be very happy to substitute regular ice cream for soy ice cream - I know a place that makes a very tasty one!

Would that be ok for my type?

Compliant commercial or homemade fruit sorberts, fruit smoothies which have been partially frozen; frozen grapes and pineapple chunks, homemade imitation 'ice cream' made with a compliant nut/soy/almond milk and diced fresh fruit.

uh, yeah.  I'm not sure I can live without gelato.  I usually like the fruit flavors anyway.  Melone, limone, etc.  Are those usually made without dairy?

Dr D
Glycerine(ol) is a trihydric alcohol, (not a carbohydrate) and is the building block of all plant oils and nearly all animal fats.
Glycerine is the only effective humectant that can be used by non-secretors, since it can be shunted to either fat metabolism or glucose production, depending on metabolic status. Glycerine can be a carb on occasion, a fat precursor on occasion, a phosphoglyceride precursor on occasion, and it can simply pass through the body unused. For non-secretors, this is perfect. Thus, although it is there for moisture retention, it also tends to optimize fat<->carb<->fat conversion which is genetically a problem with non-secretors.
