If I avoid the avoids I can tolerate and eat the non-avoids I can,I may face starvation

im getting frustrated with everyone throwing THATS AN AVOID THATS AN AVOID at me everytime I say anything

Avoid cops HAVE MERCY PLZZZZZZZZZZ

(I don't know my secretor status,and thats not something I am worried about,I would need to follow a non-secretor diet anyway with all my health challenges.Iam probably a non-secretor because I do great on AVOCADOS..and they increase my
energy level.I dont care if their avoids because I know they work with me,WALNUTS ON THE OTHER HAND CAUSE SEVERE PAIN,DIZZINESS AND DIARRHEA.EVEN WALNUT OIL....

I do not handle most vegetables well,and I have to cook them down to a mush because of IBS.I ALSO cannot take suppliments unless they are from companies that have a strict policy for the most hypoallergenic ingredients.

I have tried supplements suggested here and got majorly ill on them,so now I only take what i get from an hypoallergenic medical company.

I am here to learn and grow,but please try working with me,instead of telling me AVOID AVOID,why not suggest things that I am not intolerant too which would help.

The reason why you're hearing about avoids so much is (imo anyway) because so many of us have found that the avoid list is a major source of trouble, and it's the first place to look when we're having problems. No one here is trying on purpose to get in your face or harass you. We're just trying to find the simplest solution for your health problems, and avoids are at the top of the list.

As for secretor status, I stand by finding out for sure what it is. It is the best tool after the BTD for refining your food plan and finding the foods that work best for you. I was positive I was a nonnie--nope, I'm a secretor with nonnie-like reactions to grains, cow's milk and sugar. Getting your status is up to you, but I believe that by not knowing, you'll never be sure whether the plan you're following is the best one. When you are loaded with food allergies and sensitivities, you need all the tools you can get. I saved up for almost a year to get the money for the test--it was tough, I was unemployed at the time and literally had to save pennies, but it was well worth it.

If you have a good source of supplements, that's cool. Whatever works I use a vegetarian source of glucosamine because of extreme shellfish sensitivity. No one here will come down on you for not using NAP supplements. One of the beauties of the BTD is that you can do it without supplements at all. That's a sign of real integrity on the part of the plan's creator, in my book.

Your avoid list does read like a nonnie's. Just about everything on there is bad news for Os anyway, especially Os who are sensitive. I would suggest going with the top ten energy foods for type O (in your case, top nine since walnuts cause problems): lean red meat, richly oiled cold water fish, olive oil, seaweed, spinach/collards/kale, garlic, berries (blueberries and elderberries in particular), ginger, and green tea. If medical whey works for you, okay. I know this is a very basic list, but you can add to it as you go along and discover what you can eat--like the avocadoes that you've found help you gain energy.

The potato lectin is a red flag ~ for all Os except secretors who have no inflammatory problems, no joint trouble, no extra weight, no other health difficulties at all related to diet. For those healthy folks, we say "it may be considered neutral" because that is the most practical way in which to communicate this seeming anomaly to the small percentage of Os who digest it without trouble ~ always secretors, and never those with the conditions listed above. This is a case in which the subtypes fully come into play in regard to reactivity -- further, even a good percentage of secretors cannot eat this food, and it is difficult to pin down the exact differences between them that makes this so. Potato lectin has a profoundly different effect for Os who do not fall into that group, thus its continuing "red flag" status.

Don't be so hard on us  

The advice you have been given is good advice for a lot of people.  Phrases like "xxx is an avoid, try yyy"...."find out your secretor status" are not intended as personal insults but as passing on of information.  Information that will apply to the majority of readers.

BTD is a general framework - it sets out an idea with which to work.  We will gladly help you learn about the framework.  We may even be able to contribute personal experiences you find helpful.  

But it is up to you to evaluate the advice, take what you find helpful and ignore the rest.  You have to evaluate your food options - it is almost impossible for an outsider on a public forum - to point you in the direction of beneficials which meet with your highly specific requirements.  And that is not people being inconsiderate or unhelpful - only you can find out what works for you and what doesn't.  

Have fun with it most importantly - easier said than done I know

Glad to be of help Please feel free to ask plenty of questions. That's what this forum is here for. I understand your frustration and pain. Been there, believe me! My experience hasn't been exactly like yours, but it was just as tough. And here I am, still walking the good red road to health.

Dr. D himself has said that the BTD is not a straitjacket. I'm pretty sure when Eat Right For Your Genotype comes out, it will be even more individualized.

Finding what works best for you on this food plan takes time. The willingness to experiment is key. I know this is difficult when you have severe food allergies. It can be scary to try something new when you're not sure what your reaction will be.

I would suggest (and this is simply my suggestion, based on my own experience) that for now you stick with the basics--the list of nine foods in my previous post would be a good place to start, if you find it agreeable to you. Yes, it's a limited list, but think of it as medicine for your body. (If you have other foods that work for you, add those as well.) The foods on that list will help you heal gently and steadily. As you regain health and strength, you can begin to add other foods to your basic list. This was the approach I used (more out of necessity than choice, but it was a good thing all told ) and it worked pretty well.

Lola--the vegetarian glucosamine is NOW brand. It is combined with MSM and works very well.  I take it with lots of bromelain and quercetin and now have significant pain only on days when I push myself too hard or when the weather gets really wet and windy.

Tarranae...my apologies to you.  I have been one of the ones with the avoid police and pushing the secretor test only because I waited three years before I got mine (thinking I was a secretor) to find out I was a nonnie.   I wish only to help and find you the right path to better health.  The past year and a half as a nonnie has brought me to greater health and I wish only the same for you and everyone else who wants to heal their bodies.  On another board I used to frequent, but don't anymore because they could get downright rude and nasty, there was one person 'O' who was determined for the longest time that dairy helped her health.  When she finally did take the step and got off of it she started to heal.  I actually don't know how she now as I don't go to that board anymore.   You have so many health issues that the whey could be helping in one way and causing many other problems.  Even with other foods.

Thank you,I want to keep an open mind,and try everything to see what is going to work.
I have learned never to be so stubborn as to not try something before I say it wont work or will.
As far as the whey is concerned I just started it and have it only once a week in rotation with rice protein. If I felt like my body was reacting to it I would stop. I have been completely dairy free for years but my food allergies are increasing at a steady pace.If i need whey for a while to avoid starvation I will have it....As soon as I can handle eggs and all the beneficial meats I wont need whey...But i cant abandon it completely.I just started it mind you so it hasnt had a chance to hurt we shall see if it helps,if it does I will stick with it,if it doesnt and i dont heal i will scrap it...

Hi again Tarrenae,

if you've had such troubles with seacure, then the pricier route via a combination of amino acids may help healing the gut ... this and ARA6 should help ((maybe Lola could find the old-threads conversation between Judi and MoDon regarding this technique?))

However, the candida may indicate much mercury and must be dealt with first.  This may get very tricky depending on individual response,  MoDon posted extensively about the candida-mercury connection.  If mercury contamination is a possibility, then amalgam removal is a top priority to any kind of health resolution.

resting brings up a very valid point, and may be one of the keys as to why you are having trouble treating your candida, and healing.  You could have mercury issues.  There is a symbiotic relationship between mercury and candida, where, candida gobbles up the mercury vapor, trapping it in a less damaging form.  It's still there, but not as toxic from my understanding.  Like resting says, MoDon has posted on this and there are threads on mercury in the Encyclopedia/Library forum.

The first place to look is dental/amalgam fillings.  Or, you could have mercury (from food or other sources) that has settled in your tissues.

Treating the mercury first is critical (in the opinion of many here) before dealing with the candida.  Treat the candida without dealing with the mercury and you can potentially make your health worse. (Unintentionally.)
